mayor of
Portland, Oregon . On September 13, 2023, incumbent

Background
On July 3, 2023,
City Commissioner
Mingus Mapps became the first elected official to announce his candidacy.
[3]
Homelessness and
public safety are expected to be among the two most important issues of this election.
[4] This election, as well as the
City Council election , will be a major indication of political shifts in Portland. The previous mayoral and city council elections saw a shift away from
progressives towards slightly more
moderate elected officials.
