  • Merge to Kenneth Jay Lane - although that article needs improving too, the designer is notable and my reaction is that we don't need separate entries for designer and business in this instance. Mabalu ( talk) 10:13, 12 April 2015 (UTC) reply
Comment - Having just done a quick save job on Kenneth Jay Lane, I think it is clear that the subject is notable, but it should be redirected to the designer's page. There is definitely a lot of coverage of both designer and company out there, to the point where if someone were inclined enough, they could probably work this up into an article, but my feeling is that it's best to combine. Notability: Article is self promotion and it appears very likely that it was written by the individual that the page is about. "No subject is automatically or inherently notable merely because it exists: The evidence must show the topic has gained significant independent coverage or recognition, and that this was not a mere short-term interest, nor a result of promotional activity or indiscriminate publicity". The sources provided do not support notability or significant independent coverage or recognition. Lastly, this article was created by a guest user and then edited by user "Drittner" and clearly is a Wikipedia:Autobiography -- TheKilimanjaro ( talk) 23:39, 2 April 2015 (UTC) reply

The references are questionable. One of them is a vague reference to a county biography, another is the subject's own blog, and a third is a dead link. -- TheKilimanjaro ( talk) 00:06, 3 April 2015 (UTC) reply

  • Delete unless improved -- This is a bad article, but it could be that the subject is notable. Autobio is a serious objection; and I would like to see is much better citation of his publications: are they books or merely pamphlets? Being a local historian does not make him notable. What is his contribution to the two encyclopedias: Did he edit them (perhaps notable) or merely cointribute articles? Equally, I presume he contributed to magazines, not wrote them entirely. If these issues cannot be addressed to prove notability, the article must be deleted. Peterkingiron ( talk) 16:28, 5 April 2015 (UTC) reply
  • Delete unless improved -- As has been said, this is a bad article: written like a resume, much self-promotion, much that is irrelevant, scanty references (many of which are unreliable). However, if he has published that many books at a national level I'm inclined to think there might be some justification for an article... just not this article. WalkingOnTheB ( talk) 09:57, 7 April 2015 (UTC) reply
  • Keep It's a terrible article, self-promoting, very few in-line sources. However, Rittner has some notability as a local historian, author (real books on local history), regular online columnist for Times Union (Albany). Keep the article and prune it / tag it. The article notes:

To help track down some of these rare beings, we enlisted Don Rittner, a longtime advocate for the Karner blue and the founder of the Pine Bush Historic Preservation Project, which was organized in 1972 to protect the region's flora and fauna. When we made our rendezvous with Mr. Rittner -- in a diner parking lot off Route 155, just 15 minutes from downtown Albany -- he was wearing a straw hat to protect against the strong sun, and he seemed highly optimistic about our chances of seeing Karner blues. Let's go look for the insect that stopped millions of dollars of development, he said cheerfully.

We drove for just five minutes down Route 155 before Mr. Rittner pulled his Subaru Outback off the highway and into an inconspicuous dirt turnout -- not the first place you would think to look for an endangered species. From the road, the home of the Karner blue doesn't look like much. The words stunted and scraggly come to mind. But Mr. Rittner begged to differ. I fell in love with this place the first time I saw it, he said.

      The article notes:

SCHENECTADY — County historian Don Rittner, an outspoken, fedora-wearing and occasionally caustic commentator, has lost his $25,000-a-year post in a round of cuts during an austerity budget passed this week by county legislators.

      ...

Rittner, 61, of Schenectady had been the Schenectady County historian since 2005. He had also been the city historian, but that salary was taken away last year during budget cuts. He is a widely published author of books on computers and history, a Times Union blogger and volunteer director of the Schenectady Film Commission.

      ...

Rittner said the $10,000 in savings achieved by cutting him was a tiny fraction to the economic development he brought to the county through his efforts to bring to the area in recent years construction of a replica of the historic sailing vessel the Onrust, the feature film "The Place Beyond the Pines" and the interactive road race "Fireball Run."

    3. Fricano, Mike (1998-11-17). "History Buff Adds Troy To Book Series". Times Union.

      The article notes:

The city recently started Troy nights, encouraging businesses to stay open later on Fridays, but in a just-published book about the history of Troy, people will get the chance to see that around the turn of the century the Collar City was a bustling downtown.

''Images of America: Troy,'' by local writer Donald Rittner, features photographs from the 1850s-1930s of Troy's people and places.

''To be able to walk down the streets of Troy and to be able to see the history and know the history is comforting,'' Rittner said.

History as a grounding force is important to Rittner who has been a city archaeologist for Albany, conservation manager for the Pine Bush, who now owns the Learning Factory, hosts a radio show and publishes an Internet magazine.

''I'm bouncing off the walls,'' Rittner said, adding that the book gave him a chance to showcase his passion for history, which remained constant no matter what job he had.

      ...

Rittner, who lives in Schenectady, spent his formative years in Troy, walking streets bejeweled with historic architecture. One of his favorite childhood pastimes was tossing a magnet up against cast-iron store fronts.

      ...

Although the book was just released, Rittner, 48, said the idea had kicked around in his head since he was 20 years old. But Rittner had no idea how to proceed, so the idea was shelved until February, when serendipity struck at Barnes and Noble.

While buying a book on fossils, Rittner noticed a small paperback, ''Cresson,'' about a place near his hometown of Gallizaton, Pa. On impulse, Rittner bought the book. When he got it home, Rittner soon discovered that his coal mining father, Robert, was in the old photograph on the cover.

The next day Rittner called the publisher and said he would love to do a book on Troy. Arcadia Publishers in Dover, N.H., as a part of its Images of America series, has published books about Clifton Park, Malta, Ballston Spa and will soon be releasing ''Brunswick,'' by Sharon Zankel.

    4. Grondahl, Paul (1989-12-28). "Photographer Looks Twice At Surroundings". Times Union.

      The article notes:

Don Rittner has always had a radical way of seeing the world. This time it's in stereo.

Rittner, of Schenectady, a well-known environmentalist and local activist, has brought out a quirky and charming book of stereo photographs titled "Hello, Goodbye: Disappearing Artifacts and Landscapes of the Hudson- Mohawk Valley."

      ...

Rittner, 41, has spent much of his life accentuating a contrary view. He was expelled from Troy High School in 1964 for long hair and a bad attitude. "I wouldn't tuck in my shirt," Rittner recalls. "I've always had this need to rebel, to break out of the system."

He earned a degree in anthropology and environmental science at the State University at Albany and a master's degree in urban environmental studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In the 1970s he was an architect for the city of Albany and became the city's Pine Bush preserve manager in the mid-1980s. He isn't embarrassed to admit he was fired twice by the city.

"I wouldn't shut up," he says.

There is a touch of anger in "Hello, Goodbye" at seeing paradise lost. The soul of the book is Rittner's deep and abiding love for Albany's Pine Bush, a unique environmental artifact that appears several times in the book.

"I was born in my grandmother's house by a mid- wife and there was a big pitch pine in the front yard," says Rittner, son of a coal miner who grew up in central Pennsylvania. "I think that might explain why I've lived and breathed Albany's Pine Bush for the last 20 years."

More recently, after leaving a position as director of the Troy Neighborhood Council, Rittner started up a local alternative journal, Hard Copy, modeled on The Nation.

    5. Grondahl, Paul (1992-06-06). "Getting In Tough - From Upstairs In Schnenectady, Environmentalist Communicates With the Whole World". Times Union.

      The article notes:

At his house near the Union College campus, in an upstairs bedroom converted into a computer center, Don Rittner has the world at his fingertips. By punching a few keys on a Macintosh keyboard, Rittner can discuss environmental issues with scientists in Moscow, research a topic in libraries from Australia to Switzerland and send letters of protest against proposed oil refineries in South America.

"The Mac has set me free," Rittner says. "I have access to the best scientific minds, the finest libraries and universities in the world, supercomputers and about 40 million people - all without leaving my room."

The rules may have changed, but Rittner's game hasn't. The longtime environmental activist and catalyst in preserving the Albany Pine Bush is still raising hell on behalf of Mother Earth. He's just not leaving a paper trail anymore.

In his new book, "EcoLinking: Everyone's Guide to Online Environmental Information" (Peachpit Press, Berkeley, Calif. $18.95), Rittner offers personal computer owners the key to global environmental activism.

The book is the first guide of its kind to explain and catalog the growing trend of environmentalists using personal computers and modems to link up with each other. Rittner describes these computer networks and shows a PC owner how to access them.

      ...

Rittner, 42, took his own leap of faith, casting aside the security of a steady job when he became a full-time free- lance computer writer and systems operator four years ago.

Rittner has worked as a columnist for computer magazines; started his own online MUG News Service featuring information on environmental issues; operates the environmental forum for the American Online service and has future book projects on global computer networking in the works.

    6. Kurp, Patrick (1989-01-16). "Social Activist Puts His Ideas In New Journal". Times Union.

      The article notes:

After decades of protest and organizing, the long-time Capital District social activist has a new outlet for his moral discontent: Hard Copy, a free, monthly news magazine due out by the end of January.

While Hard Copy will be published on newsprint - cheaper than glossy paper - its 8 1/2-by-11-inch, 40-page format will resemble weekly news and opinion magazines like The Nation. Rittner, in fact, is modeling his quixotic project on the country's oldest progressive journal.

"Like The Nation, it's gonna be progressive but we're not really radically left. I'm a liberal. I'm not afraid of the big 'L' word," he said.

Rittner, a computer hacker, will also publish Hard Copy electronically, on computer bulletin boards across the country and overseas. Besides an initial press run of 15,000 copies, the magazine may reach thousands of readers around the world.

... The first issue will feature a story about bats, an interview with a Nicaraguan economist, a column on gay and lesbian issues, a review of a Troy hot dog stand and three pieces on housing and homelessness.

The issue of homelessness is especially dear to Rittner, who is executive director of the Troy Neighborhood Council, a tenants' rights organization. He lived on the streets of Troy for four years as a teenager, sleeping in doorways and all-night diners.

Rittner, 40, was born in Galizaton, in central Pennsylvania, the son of a coal miner. When he was 2 years old and the mines closed, Rittner moved with his family to Troy.

His parents split up when he was 8, and Rittner was thrown out of Troy High School in the 10th grade for having long hair (a grown-out crewcut in 1964) and wearing his shirt outside his pants. Then his mother threw him out of the house.

"It was tough, but I knew it was temporary. You see, I was always a bookworm. I was learning all the time and I knew I could do more," he said.

Rittner returned to school, eventually getting degrees in anthropology and environmental science from the State University at Albany and a master's degree from RPI in Urban and Environmental Studies.

    7. Grondahl, Paul (1997-02-03). "Shopping For Knowledge At The Learning Factory In Colonie Center, Students Can Take Classes On A Wide Range". Times Union.

      The article notes:

The Learning Factory -- which offers a wide variety of 90-minute evening classes at $29, created with the notion that mom will continue her education while the kids hang out and shop -- is the latest career permutation for Rittner, 46.

In the 1960s, he was a drummer in the local rock band Horton Strong (opened for the Grass Roots at SPAC's inaugural rock show). In the 1970s, he was Albany city archaeologist. In the 1980s, he was Pine Bush preserve manager and environmental activist. In the 1990s, he was Internet guru, author of numerous online reference books and publisher of a free monthly cyberspace magazine.

In between, Rittner has come up with many extravagant concepts -- he wanted to solve the problem of missing children with the Internet, for instance -- some of which have taken flight. Despite failures, Rittner remains an unrepetant dreamer and visionary.

      ...

''I need to stir the pot, so every 10 years, I change my life,'' says Rittner, who, with his wife, Nancy, has two children, Kevin, 5, and Chris, 3. They are expecting their third in the spring.

Thanks to big dividends from his America Online stock, Rittner last summer took a sabbatical from an online writing career, unplugged and assessed career options. He wanted to start a business that would combine his interests in teaching, computer technology, publishing and unconventional learning.

Don Rittner — archaeologist, artist, Schenectady Film Commissioner, former Schenectady County historian, mastermind of events and proud wearer of fedoras — finds his inspiration from people who create: those who can take a wisp of a thought and realize it in the material world. He hopes to do just that with Inspiration Week, an eclectic slate of events designed to ignite, excite and embolden.

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow Don Rittner to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

    Cunard ( talk) 23:57, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply

  • I'm failing to see how a handful of old TU articles makes him "notable" or how a few articles qualifies as "significant coverage". I still think that is a major stretch of the definition. How is this meeting the criteria: significant independent coverage or recognition? Do a few (mainly local) articles scattered across 3 decades constitute significant coverage? I don't think it does. I don't agree with your conclusion but I do want to commend you for the detailed and organized response. -- TheKilimanjaro ( talk) 19:50, 11 April 2015 (UTC) reply
  • Two newspapers with an infrequent mention of Don Rittner is not widespread. That NYT article is about butterflies and they happened to interview him. That doesn't make him worthy of an encyclopedia entry. Every single subject matter expert that's had a mention here or there over the course of their life isn't worthy of an encyclopedia entry and the sources in the article are so spotty its not even clear if he actually is an expert on these topics. "The New York Times article, the Times Union articles, and the book reviews demonstrate that the Don Rittner is notable." ------> No, it doesn't. It demonstrates he's had some very minor coverage of his activities from time to time. Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion ---> there is a lot of self-promotion going on in this article and it is obvious that Rittner himself has been editing the page and contributing substantial blocks of unsourced text, Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a directory ----> A lot of people are mentioned in newspapers every single day. It does not mean that they deserve their own entry in an encyclopedia. "Biography articles should only be for people with some sort of fame, achievement, or perhaps notoriety." He isn't famous. He has no major achievements that warrant an entry in wikipedia. -- TheKilimanjaro ( talk) 03:17, 15 April 2015 (UTC) reply

Worse still, the two main contributors previously seemed to be polar opposites- the article was started by someone who cast a quite critical eye over the organisation's activities, then someone appeared with a blatant COI and changed lots of bit they didn't like but without displaying much insight into how a Wikipedia article should be constructed. Anyhow... I think the organisation itself is notable. (I had come across the article in the past and had considered editing but had always found something else to do as there was just too much work needed). I have given the article a major rewrite. You will find the tone is now neutral and appropriate for an encyclopaedia and I hope I have included enough information and secondary sources to demonstrate notability. I have since found further press articles from two West Midlands news papers concerning this company, one about a charity initiative that they did and one regarding an inquest of an accident which a death was involved. • Keep I'm finding her referenced all over in English, German, Portuguese, and Japanese discussions of reiki, and she seems to be universally credited with bringing the practice to the West. For instance, this paragraph and the following two pages give more than passing reference to her and her impact. She is described in the same book as "Hayashi's most famous student...[who] would take the role of standard-bearer after [his death]." This book was written entirely about her. It's only 112 pages long per Google Books, but that's pretty significant to have 112 pages written about a person in one book. This book references the biography above. Seems to me that just a little bit of research can come up with enough material to support notability. ··· 日本穣 ? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 17:22, 17 April 2015 (UTC) reply

  • Comment. He is a commercially successful landscape artist with thumbnail bios on all the usual sites, which tend to drown out anything useful. He has won a few awards, nothing major. I found a couple of mentions in books, a news item Mieschke’s landscapes on display from the Brampton Guardian 2013, and a 1985 Arts & Letters Club of Toronto newsletter that mentions a one-man exhibit at the Eaton's Art Gallery, and says "While he has exhibited regularly at Eaton's since 1970, he has also had recent solo shows in Basel and Horgen, Switzerland." Later it gives a few sentences on his style. He is in the Brampton Arts Council directory and Visual Arts Brampton. His landscapes have been reproduced by Hallmark and UNICEF – don't know if that is good or bad. Seems marginal – no urgency to delete. Aymatth2 ( talk) 14:13, 11 April 2015 (UTC) reply

Information is never neutral; just the suggestion that something is not neutral without clearly stating how so (this article has been reviewed by several editors already and the subject is perfectly notable), is in itself suspect. Since the subject is a notable person and he has written widely in Urdu and Bangla as well, I suggest collaboration and searching up information on finding out sources from the non-English arena as well. ~Mohammad Hossain~ 03:36, 15 April 2015 (UTC) reply

I came across this via an WP:A7 speedy deletion but Weil's association with Scientific Games Corporation is just enough to where he would squeak by speedy deletion standards. A search doesn't really show where Weil is really independently notable outside of the company and I don't think that a redirect would really be appropriate in this instance since he isn't really mentioned in the article aside from a brief mention in the controversy section. If anyone can find enough sourcing to warrant him meriting an article I'm open to the idea of withdrawing this, but all of the sources I can find mention him predominantly or solely in relation to the company. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 12:19, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply

Delete Yeah, I don't think he independently has contributed enough to society to warrant inclusion. Basically the entirety of the article is just describing where he worked, where he went to school, etc. Being a CEO isn't notable in and of itself, or else we'd need a hell of a lot more articles on wiki, so many that it would drown out all other BLPs. The company itself also isn't that big, it's only notable for the controversy and its numerous subsidiaries in my opinion. Weil just doesn't meet that merit. The controversy section was only covered in one news source, I just don't think it's enough.-- Shibbolethink ( ) 15:21, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply

Keep I noticed that you have also caused Luke Weil's bio entry to have a speedy delete which begs to ask what your real intention is here. Luke Weil has had even more media attention than his father in recent history and warrants a bio entry per wikipedia's guidelines. Lorne Weil is very notable for more than just trading SG stock. He's also mentioned in many other places since SG is a company on the billion dollar trading level such as http://www.reviewjournal.com/business/scientific-games-replaces-ceo-after-completing-15-billion-wms-purchase as one example of notable reference of importance in history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Evershawn ( talkcontribs) 03:58, 12 April 2015‎ Evershawn ( talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

Comment "real intentions" what does that even mean? Also, notability is not cascading, and amount of money traded =/= notability. Just because his company trades in lots of cash doesn't make it inherently notable, and it certainly doesn't make HIM notable.-- Shibbolethink ( ) 15:38, 12 April 2015 (UTC) reply
  • I actually wasn't the one who nominated the article for Luke Weil for speedy deletion, Shibbolethink was. However regardless of who nominated an article for deletion please assume WP:GOODFAITH. Saying that someone nominated something for deletion based on bad intentions is really not a good idea. Not only can it be seen as a personal attack, but it frequently has the opposite effect since it almost immediately decreases the credibility of the accuser and puts incoming editors on the defensive. Also Shibbolethink is correct in that notability is not inherited. What you need here are sources that discuss Weil in-depth and independently of the company. A company can be notable, but this does not mean that its CEOs will be notable as well. It certainly makes it more likely, but it's never a guarantee. The ones given for "Leucios Inoa II" similarly match those of Seleucus I Nicator. It might be possible to match the remaining dates with rulers of either the Seleucid empire or Greek states further east as given in some source or other, but I wouldn't count on it - and even if so, the names would be very unlikely to be the ones given. An overly promotional article about a middle school. Middle schools are not presumed to be notable, and I found no significant coverage of the school from reliable sources. Additionally, the article is so promotional in tone that it would have to be fundamentally rewritten even if it were notable. Spirit of Eagle ( talk) 04:57, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply

  • Redirect to Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District per usual custom for non-notable middle schools. In addition, I suspect this article is, in part, a hoax, or perhaps satire. The school is real, but doubts about the details are inevitably raised by unverifiable references to courses in Pig Latin, "Clowinging and Mime", and "Advanced Chalk Design"; the ""National Junior Riverdance Educational Competition"; a teacher who knows Parseltongue (evidently a Harry Potter reference); "Carnegie Watermelon University"; and "Doug Harbrueger, owner of the Indianapolis Colts and former fine arts teacher, recently made a sizeable donation to add courses in Egyptian Costuming and Interior Design for students." See also the related article Advanced Academic Strategies, which may have similarly dubious content. -- Arxiloxos ( talk) 05:48, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply
  • Comment. Article content undeniably a hoax; among other statements previously noted, Jim Irsay (not "Doug Harbrueger") is the actual owner of the Indianapolis Colts. Calamondin12 ( talk) 12:43, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply
  • Comment: Upon closer inspection, this seems to be a very tongue in check troll article. Other points of reference I found include claims that a professor can speak Canadian, that a professor painted the Mona Lisa in 1998, references to a McNutty award (which seems to be a parody of the McNulty Award, ect. This could possibly be speedy deleted per WP:G3 or at the very least deleted per WP:SNOW. Spirit of Eagle ( talk) 17:09, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply

One of the many novels by this author Kaari Utrio who is from Finland that has no refs and tagged for notability for years where even the Finish wikis don't have pages. A redirect be the best for them. (Don't feel like tagging all of them, but I have put 2 others for prods already!) Wgolf ( talk) 18:58, 26 March 2015 (UTC) reply

BTW here are the 2 novels I have put a prod on: Katarinan taru and Kuka olet, Elissa? (which I couldn't do a AFD on the 2nd as I seen before for some reason ? don't go to afds.) Wgolf ( talk) 19:02, 26 March 2015 (UTC) reply
  • Redirect. This has actually been on my watchlist for a while. I stumbled upon it accidentally one day – it was in such a sorry state that I wanted to improve it despite not having read it. But my search then was fruitless. I've looked again and still cannot find anything on the book (no reviews, analysis – nothing). If someone finds some good sources, I'd be happy to help improve it. But without them, I say redirect it to the author's article since notability cannot be established. Ruby 2010/ 2013 20:01, 26 March 2015 (UTC) reply

Yeah with a title like Isabella its kind of hard to find the exact title since it is a common name-also if someone can just merge all of his novels into this afd that be great! Wgolf ( talk) 20:08, 26 March 2015 (UTC) reply

  • Redirect to Kaari Utrio. From what I could see on the page here and on the other language Wikipedias, Utrio is a very prolific author and this book was just one of several that she released. I can't find anything to really show that this book is notable. Even the Finnish language Wikipedia doesn't have an entry and while that doesn't mean that the book can't be notable, it doesn't give much hope that it would pass this language's Wikipedia guidelines. I would say that this should redirect to the main page with history, just in case sourcing may be discovered at some point. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 17:27, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply

She's been covered and interviewed by Vice's The Creators Project, this Wired blurb is already in the article; you can find her pieces discussed in a number of online curatorial/media outlets (eg Alpha.ville, Cronica, Rhizome); her CV documents quite a few major exbihitions. You can't really see the snippets, but her work is discussed quite a bit in this and this book on digital art. The book is a collection of manga reviews and reviews do contribute to the notability of the works they are about. In fact, I shouldn't have called it a "mention"... I should have made clear what it really was (you can look at the source yourself and see what it has).
"Show me how this topic is notable based on how the wikiproject selects articles for creation." - KirtZ, all I need to do is show that this topic meets WP:GNG. The moment it meets GNG, it's notable, and the article is kept.

This may be source #2: " Viz Manga/Book News" ( Archive). Anime News Network. November 12, 1999. it says that Viz has released a press release but I'm not sure if this is a verbatim press release, or a new article based on it.
It is a good thing when one reliable source is found.

    • Delete Merge to Pokémon (manga) - The sources found above include one review and an announcement of the release, im not seeing any in depth coverage here. Normally when I think of notability in fiction I think of at least three or more reviews along with if possible some additional real world information through reliable sources. - Knowledgekid87 ( talk) 21:36, 28 March 2015 (UTC) reply
    • Merge/Redirect to the parent article for manga of the franchise As much as Thompson's review can be used for reception, it's not a sign of notability. As the aim of the book is to provide reviews (or at the least, comments) of more or less all manga released in english at the time of publication, it does not differentiate between notability or success. It's not any different from how Anime Encyclopaedia isn't a indication of notability, the scope is different but the basic idea is the same. Additionally. a news item based on a press release is no better than the original press release as notability evidence. Also, the existence of an article at Ja.Wiki is irrelevant as we can't use Wikipedia as a source anyway, therefore it has no bearing on the discussion. SephyTheThird ( talk) 21:56, 28 March 2015 (UTC) reply
    • Comment: "of more or less all manga released in english at the time of publication, it does not differentiate between notability or success" - One could say the same thing about a book of Roger Ebert's reviews or a book of reviews from any person who reviews feature films. The fact that it's a feature film at all is a "screen" of notability, and likewise with the fact that the manga have been deemed as commercially viable to translate for foreign audiences. The fact that a review published a reliable secondary source exists at all inherently adds notability. It is not analogous to an automated database such as IMDB or the ANN database. It is instead analogous to ANN's published reviews of manga: it makes a statement evaluating the series. Also consider the author of the review, Jason Thompson.
    • I am actually surprised that the Japanese Wikipedia userbase had not located significant magazines that regularly publish reviews of manga, analogous to American newspapers publishing feature film reviews, or a manga equivalent of Famitsu.
    • WhisperToMe ( talk) 03:47, 30 March 2015 (UTC) reply
I did a write longer reply at first, but comparing feature films and manga is rather misguided, theatrical films are not short of professional reviewers, manga and anime are. This is a manga title and therefore should be judged as a manga. Comparisons with Ebert are rather silly, even taking into account Thompson's CV/Resume. The short answer is that a single review in Thompson's book (being the catalog of titles it is) is not enough to show notability. We need something in addition, and that would be the case even if we had a single magazine review. SephyTheThird ( talk) 14:05, 4 April 2015 (UTC) reply

Comment I agree with Sephy. Let me clarify one thing. The Japanese Wikipedia has zero sources. This is a Japanese manga. The reason I mentioned the Japanese Wiki in the first place was that I had hoped if an article existed there, then they might have found some kind of notability to warrant its existence. If you look at the article they created however, clearly they did not. A deletion and merge would be the best bet here. —KirtZ Message 13:38, 29 March 2015 (UTC) reply
Ja. Wiki is typically useless for helping with English articles. Even if they exist they tend not to have any sources at all and they have next to no process involved so articles tend to be basic (even major franchises can just end up being unverified lists). It should be checked but the assumption should always be that it won't be helpful until proven otherwise. You an certainly use it as a starting place in some cases, but only at the very start of research - it's a lot easier to research when you are checking information already available. Reply: It's surprising that you keep asking this question, because it can't be the case that with the number of times you've cited the GNG in AfDs you've participated you're unaware of what the guideline actually says: "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article." Maybe its more a matter of opinion. However the article is well referenced and well written. Even if its debatable if he meets WP:1E there is no harm in keeping it. To me he is quite notable, the first person who was killed in the American Revolution. That is pretty big to me. A simple google search shows numerous websites, and a large amount of content dedicated to him. With an article that has over 2,600 edits and a lot of effort has been put into researching, and writing it I do not think its fair to delete. Maybe to some people it is not as important, but to others it is substantially more important. LethalFlower Talk/ Reply 01:57, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply
Under what guide? What makes him notable for having his own article? CrazyAces489 ( talk) 01:36, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply
    • Keep of course. Per ONEEVENT, "if an event is of sufficient importance, even relatively minor participants may require their own articles". The Boston Massacre more than satisfies the importance requirement, and whether or not you consider Attucks to be just a "minor" participant (I don't), he is still very well known, to history buffs at least, to this day. Being the first (or last) victim of a major war seems to be a standard for notability: e.g. the much less famous Robert M. Losey and Henry Hadley (died 1914). Clarityfiend ( talk) 01:53, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply
    • Keep – per WP:1E, if the event is highly significant, and the individual's role within it is a large one, a separate article is generally appropriate. -- Hirolovesswords ( talk) 02:55, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply
    • Keep. In addition to the reasons stated by others, Crispus Attucks has been for many decades a widely recognized and honored symbolic figure, as described in the "Legacy" and "Popular culture" sections of the article, and this would be enough to support an article in any case. -- Arxiloxos ( talk) 06:03, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply
    • Slamdunk Keep: Perhaps the nom is under the impression that ONEEVENT is the fundamental notability criterion on Wikipedia, trumping all the rest, as well as being confused about what ONEEVENT says; in no part of the guideline does it say "If a subject's known for one event, Wikipedia forbids an article to be written about him, whether or not he meets any other guideline." What it actually does say is:

When an individual is significant for his or her role in a single event, it may be unclear whether an article should be written about the individual, the event or both. In considering whether or not to create separate articles, the degree of significance of the event itself and the degree of significance of the individual's role within it should be considered. The general rule in many cases is to cover the event, not the person. However, if media coverage of both the event and the individual's role grow larger, separate articles may become justified.

It's safe to say that the Boston Massacre was, with the probable exception of the Declaration of Independence, the single most heavily publicized event in America in the 18th century. It's also safe to say that Attucks passes the GNG by flying colors: never mind articles, he's had over a hundred books written about him. [20] Ravenswing 07:05, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply

Books about the man's life and his significance in history are easily found in GBooks with his name in the title, schools named after him all over the US, (two with articles here), etc. Dai Pritchard ( talk) 09:13, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply
    • Keep Even if he personally is an entirely fictional creation, his role has since become totemic ( Casey Jones springs to mind too). The lack of verifiable detail is a matter for editing caution, not for deletion of the topic. Andy Dingley ( talk) 13:04, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply

Inadequately-sourced biography of a photographer. I am unable to find any reliable sources that establish notability. Fails WP:BASIC and WP:ARTIST. - Mr X 00:25, 10 April 2015 (UTC) reply

    • Delete - There are a few passing mentions in sources to a Randy Nickerson who appears to be a CEO of an oil conglomerate, but that's nothing to do with this one. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 08:51, 11 April 2015 (UTC) reply
    • Delete I recommend that the editor create a bios on WikiBios.com which would be a great place for this information. Notability isn't encyclopedic but there are places for this information outside of Wikipedia. Bryce Carmony ( talk) 13:20, 11 April 2015 (UTC) reply
