I Can See Your Voice franchise |
I Can See Your Voice Malaysia ( Chinese: 看见你的声音; pinyin: Kàn jiàn nǐ de shēng yīn) [1] is a Malaysian television mystery music game show series catering in Chinese language, based on the South Korean programme of the same name. Since the show's premiere on 20 August 2017, [2] [3] it has aired two seasons on 8TV.
Presented with a group of six "mystery singers" identified only by their occupation, a guest artist must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group without ever hearing them sing, assisted by clues and a celebrity panel over the course of three rounds. At the end of the game, the last remaining mystery singer is revealed as either good or bad by means of a duet between them and one of the guest artists. [2] [4]
Media Prima Berhad formally acquired the rights to produce separate, multilingual adaptations of I Can See Your Voice in Malaysia, with 8TV for the Chinese-language counterpart in April 2017 and NTV7 for the Malay-language counterpart in June 2018, including with production duties assigned by Primeworks Studios. [5]
The Mandarin translation of I Can See Your Voice ( Chinese: 看见你的声音; pinyin: Kàn jiàn nǐ de shēng yīn) [1] [5] is adapted to the (Chinese-language version of) Malaysian counterpart that also comes from a title of the Chinese counterpart itself. [6] [7] The I Can See Your Voice Malaysia [4] subtitle is later used as its own title of the Malay-language counterpart. [8] [9]
The Chinese-language counterpart of I Can See Your Voice Malaysia debuted on 20 August 2017. [2] [3] 8TV renewed the series for a second season [10] that premiered on 19 August 2018, [4] during the first season airings of its Malay-language counterpart on NTV7 [11] [12] that began airing on 4 August 2018. [13] [14]
In the second season, an encore concert (subtitled Christmas Showcase) was aired in 25 December 2018, followed by a duo of Nick and Stella Chung playing in the Chinese New Year special that concluded on 5 February 2019. [15]
The series has a panel of celebrities who assist the guest artist(s) to decipher mystery singers' identities throughout the game. Alongside with mainstays, guest panelists also appear since the first season. Overall, 4 different members have been assigned, with the original lineup being Rickman Chia and Orange Tan .
Beside them, subsequent members joining on that lineup also include Hoon Mei Sim and Gary Yap (from second season).
