Orange County Route 9

Hmm. After thinking about it all day, I realized the potential for a DYK hook lies not in whatever historic buildings are along it so much as its length. I don't know if it's our longest county highway, but at ten miles it would have to come close. If you can't prove that or it isn't so, you can more easily show that it's longer than four state highways in Orange County ( 284, 293, 416 and 416). Daniel Case ( talk) 05:50, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

What we do next

I am seriously thinking we should get this article on the Main Page (it would be the first on a surface road from any of the roads projects). Not now, yet ... there are things I'd like to do in it first, as I'm sure you would like to, and as such I put a short list in a {{ todo}} template on the talk page. I'm sure there are further improvements you'd like to make, too.

Nice thing about this article is that we really don't need a specific date for it. Anyone will do.

We may have to wait for I-355 to go first if they want it, as that one was featured first.

Well, you did it again! We're on for 7/7 (Lucky, except for that being the date of those bombings in London a couple of years ago). We have some work to do ... I'd really like to get all those things on the todo list done between now and then. Last week I got some more pics, including a really nice one in Westerlo where the road is going through a green field with yellow flowers, a red barn on the side and a blue sky with white clouds ahead. You can't make that sort of picture up.

I'd also like to let someone at NYSDOT look at it for external peer review.

Speaking of which, is that bridge thing in Rosendale really so important that it should be in the lede? It's hardly the longest or most trafficked bridge on Route 32; both those honors (according to nationalbridges.com) go to the Cohoes-Waterford Bridge, which we really ought to have an article on. If that bridge was being rehabbed, I'd say yes as it's important in the Capital District.

I wonder if we should have an article on that bridge at Rosendale. The people at WP:BRIDGES have never promulgated any notability standards; obviously NRHP-listed bridges (two downstream of Rosendale along the Rondout) and ones carrying freeways over major rivers seem to make the cut, and named bridges (like Walden Veterans' Memorial Bridge a short walk from my house) are also good. But I wonder if we could get away with an article on that one. You'd think the Rosendale people would have given it some historical name, but nooooo... Daniel Case ( talk) 03:58, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Future NYSR FAs

If we do to U.S. Route 9 in New York what we did to 32 during the FAC, I think it could go. And maybe NY 22. Although I'd really love to get more pictures in both from the less-acessible (to me) northern halves.

You know, you also might want to take a little break and hang around FAC reviewing other people's submissions, if you don't already. First, like GA it's a nice way of paying back; second, you'll get more familiar with what's expected of a featured article (I wasn't surprised by Elcobbola bringing all that up; I've worked with him on a FARC so I know what he expects to see). I am also a little annoyed that I wasn't informed about the policy discussion when it started ... shouldn't all points of view have been invited to generate a more supported consensus? Another thing; I need your help fixing one little thing in Wikipedia that has been bothering me for a while. It's the article about the mexican soap opera Fuego en la sangre that they show on the spanish-speaking channels here in the US. Anyways, as you can see from the link above, Wikipedia takes it to some weird 1966 Argentine film list. Now, search Google for "Fuego en la sangre" and you'll see that the first result takes you to the right Wikipedia page! How do I fix this? I can guarantee you that 99% of people searching Wikipedia for that term are looking for the mexican soap opera, not the old argentine film. Fuego en La Sangre is extremely popular in the US, Mexico, Latin America, and across the world, in places like Estonia.

Guess what, it so happens that I'm driving past Culberson County this weekend! The major city there, Van Horn, is chock full of cops. I get stopped almost every time I drive past that place. So, the page look like it's complete already? I'm not sure how I'm supposed to improve it? Perhaps you could show me a county page that is a model of perfection, so that I can see what I'm supposed to be striving for?

I have re-commented, once the edits are made that you'se have said can be made, will pass the article, as it does give the sections which are advised on NY WP, as well as on the other NY featured highway articles. Would like (in the future) to see more aspects regarding the highway construction and culture of the area, as mentioned in todays comments and examples given in other featured highway articles in this regards. Do what is possible to do regarding It is broad in its coverage. ie A. with references available in regards to highway planning considerations. I see you have been busy replying to my comments, thank you. I also see what you mean by the NYSDOT web site, but there is some info for a bit more on design and AADT info for the construction/engineering aspect. There are manuals and manuals and manuals online, but they are just mainly generic text books, without naming routes, just civil engineering concepts to be used. Maps are tricky things, I have a few old (Public Domain) Canada maps, but nothing to help you'se out in the US unless Railroads are needed, as I have old (PD) maps showing the railroads. Well hello there again. The information has arrived. Are there a few of you'se working on New York Roads? I have been talking with yourself as well as with User:-Polaron regarding the GA status. The information which has arrived is very full and detailed. It is the engineering report of which routes are in New York are....in which region, county, and control segment, each item of information in the data base pertains to a specific highway length between beginning and ending mile posts on that segment. Residency codes are included regarding highway maintenance. It is noted whether that segment is classed as divided or undivided, number of lanes in both directions, pavement width, shoulder width, shoulder type, surface content, surface condition, surface type, median width, median type, base type, sub-base type, terrain type, area type, culture type, percent parking, passing sight distance, per cent trucks, traffic count year, design hour volume, Average annual daily traffic, functional class, highway control code, year scored, year last work, access control to highway, adjusted rated capacity, national highway system principal arterial system, surface type from 1981 to 2006, reference marker, tandem truck designation, work type, pavement type. So this is the first database, the two files to explain the above glossary type terminology and expand on all the varieties of each of the above . There is also included a second database in the information sent named the Landmark table, which refers to the route, its letter, its region, county, control segment or county order control, beginning and end mile posts, landmark and reference marker number. So, therefore this is cool engineering information for the entire state. I want to share it with whoever is working on NY road articles. It is currently residing on Compact Disk as NY found it too large to email. The 2006 instruction pdf file is 1,550 Kb in length and the Highway sufficiency table pdf is 139,069 kb file which explain the data contents. The data is compiled with Microsoft access with the 2006 final landmark table being a *.ldb file (MS access) is 1 kb, the 2006 database table with all the inventory is a 11,892 kb *.mdb (ms Access ). CD-ROMs for schools

I like the idea of making easily-accessed information available for schools (especially rural schools), but I'm still unclear (even after reading the proposal) what the finished project would look like. Although it sounds like a worthwhile project, let me also state that I'm currently too busy to take on any additional work at this time. I must say that the process of compiling a CD-ROM for the sake of 12-20 articles (about the place where the people live and therefore already know a bit about) seems odd to me. I'm not very knowledgeable about the tech problems faced by rural school districts, but when I taught in rural Poynette, Wisconsin (pop 2000), they had a fully functional internet system. Drop by and see the new colour scheme which corresponds the the provincial colours. The assessment department provides quality ratings to articles via the talk page. At the current moment the assessment department combines the communities project with the province on the Canada talk page bannerr. There is a request out to make an assessment table from the parent talk page banner or if a new banner is advised. The challenge has been met! User:CBM figured out the coding necessary! A number of various editors and administrators puttered at applying the code, and it works!! Thank you very much. C class assessment C class assessment is the newest addition for articles which need more TLC before being assessed as B class such as citations or wiki clean up. The article is more useful than a start class article, but isn't quite as rounded as a B class article. A class articles will need more than one reviewer for reaching A class article criteria. What's New? What's New?: The new articles are now being identified by a robot, and new members are being invited. At Wikipedia:WikiProject Saskatchewan/New articles for instance is a new list List of company towns. Saskatchewan company towns could be added to this list as well. Coal in Canada is another new article, which could be added to with the new coal development near Hudson Bay. Also check out the new Higher educaiton task force Member News The WikiProject Saskatchewan now has 37 members. The WikiProject Saskatchewan Communities & Neighbourhoods has 13 members. The WikiProject Canada Roads/Saskatchewan has 6 members. Other News List of basic Canada topics Chcek out the List of basic Canada topics which brings to the forefront a grouping of material about Canada for the WWW surfer. The variouse lists of basic topics has recently been undergoing an overhaul. Automate Deletion sorting to Candidates for Deletion Canadian related articles for deletion have been listed here to encourage article development and conversations at the AFD talk page. There is now discussion to identify such articles via robot similar to Australia's notice board, to enable a better canvassing of deletion tags on articles. Should there also be discussion started for a robot notification of Saskatchewan articles for deletion? A new proposal by Wolterding encompassing Article alerts would identify tagged as well as promoted articles to give a rolling new view of articles moving forwards as well as articles in need of TLC. Ghost towns Please contribute to the converstation regarding ghost towns of Saskatchewan, as there is a robot deleting pages from the Category:Ghost towns Barnstar Contest Check out the Sk Hwys Contest and win awards! Some wonderful new maps have been added to Saskatchewan Highway articles for the latest addition. In return, work of equal kind was offered to the Alaska Portal and a barnstar offered to this contributor. List of State Routes in New York

I've been meaning to ask for a while, but what's the deal with the recent additions like NY 9DX and such? Are these separate alignments – like is 9DX actually separate from 9D – or is it just a special designation applied to a segment of 9D? My humble suggestion is to remove them from the table, but mention the designation in the article on the "parent route". At the very least, blue link the X routes by redirecting them to the parent routes. Just some food for thought. -- Kéiryn ( talk) 20:29, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Bunch of road and St. Jospeh's church

Funny you should ask. I did just begin to get some of the pics this week. I had carried my camera several days, but we're having a particularly rainy/cloudy summer and I never had the camera on a good pic day. Right now, my primary computer is out of commission for another few days, but then I should be able to add some. It'll be the end of the month before I get them all, probably. I'm on vacation the last week, so should be able to finish up then. BTW, St. Jospeh's church is walking distance from my non-summer address, so that won't be any problem either.
