H World International, [3] formerly branded Deutsche Hospitality and Steigenberger Hotel Group, is the umbrella brand of the German hotel chain company Steigenberger Hotels AG. Since 2020, it is a subsidiary of the Chinese Huazhu Hotels Group and operates hotels under several brands, including Steigenberger, IntercityHotel and Zleep Hotels. [4]
The company was founded by Albert Steigenberger in 1930 and was run as a family business by the descendants of the founder, who died in 1958. [5]
In 2009, the Egyptian travel and tourism company Travco Group acquired Steigenberger Hotels. [6] In 2016, the company was rebranded as Deutsche Hospitality. [7] [8] On 4 November 2019, it was announced that the Chinese Huazhu Hotels Group through one of their subsidiaries has purchased Deutsche Hospitality for 700 million Euro. [9]
Since 1 November 2020, Marcus Bernhardt has been CEO and chairman of the management board of Steigenberger Hotels AG/Deutsche Hospitality. [1] [10]
In 2024, Deutsche Hospitality announced a rebranding and name change to H World International. [3]
