On election day 6 March 1979, incumbent mayor
Gordon Paquette was re-elected to a fifth term by a margin of 5,022 votes. The only opposition to Paquette came from
IndependentWrite-in candidate Carol Brown, as the
Republican Party did not run a candidate in the election.[2] Paquette was sworn in on 3 April 1979.
