Would some others mind taking a look at this article and assessing it for WP:PUFF, WP:ALLCAPS and WP:PROMOTION among other things? I came across the article via the talk page of Materialscientist ( this post) and User talk:MKAMisawa#May 2020. Elly's dad does have a Japanese Wikipedia article written about him and may be notable for an English Wikipedia article in his own right so mentioning seem reasonable, but it also seems reasonable to mention Elly's mom by name as well if a source can be found in support. I did some minor cleaning up, but there still may be an excessive amount of detail and a promotional tone that need addressing. There are also some table syntax things that need cleaning up, but those are fairly minor. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 01:44, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

I have nominated Manzanar for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. SandyGeorgia ( Talk) 22:14, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I'm translating japanese crafts on itwiki, but the section History needs sources. Can someone help me finding some? Thank you!-- ValeJappo ( talk) 07:05, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
I'm in the process of drafting an article for Fumio Tajima, the Japanese population geneticist. While there's plenty of English sources discussing his work, there's not many I can find that provide biographical details. I suspect such sources would exist in Japanese (on University websites, or even news profiles). I would really appreciate any assistance with finding such. Anyone who is willing to help find such is welcome to collaborate on a DYK nomination, too. Best, Vanamonde ( Talk) 02:43, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
A problem came up today while I was editing
Squid Girl. It was my incorrect understanding that
MOS:FOREIGNITALIC always trumps
MOS:NOITALIC, but actually the reverse is true; song titles are not to be italicized.
Juhachi correctly reverted me. However, this raises an issue; because my edit was not really about the italic, it was about making sure that Japanese rōmaji gets marked with |lang=ja-Latn
, as
MOS:ACCESS and
MOS:OTHERLANG dictate. Screen readers require ja-Latn to recognize that it's a Japanese term. Therefore, we now have a dilemma. My proposed solution is simple:
|italic=no
to {{
Nihongo3}}, so we don't need to resort to {{
noitalic}}, which
Juhachi thinks is ugly. (I agree.)Some preliminary discussion has already happened at User_talk:Juhachi#On_the_italicization_of_foreign-language_song_titles_and_Squid_Girl. I'd remind that just because many articles are sticking rōmaji where English is supposed to go in {{ Nihongo}}, that doesn't make it right; that's just WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. If many articles need to change to correctly work with screen readers, that's a perfectly fine requirement, as MOS:ACCESS is a very important goal of the project.
I'd also like to loop in Graham87, who I consider to be a friend ever since he helped me with integrating File:Dust Bowl map.svg into Dust Bowl. I'm sure he has something interesting to say about the necessity of {{ lang}} tags, even for rōmaji. Psiĥedelisto ( talk • contribs) 22:28, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
