Kia ora! Just wanted to follow up about your post on my talk page, as I was curious what you thought.
Right now the problem seems to be that the vast majority of sources don't seem to point specifically to either suburb specifically. I do a lot of disambiguation work, and I was able to clear up just 3 of the 20 pages that pointed to Te Atatū (disambiguation). In my research on the subject, I also saw at least one source that indicated that the two suburbs used to not be viewed as distinct at all but, rather, were just referred to as one neighborhood. It also seems that at least some news sources will just refer to "Te Atatū" without specifying which of the two is relevant.
I'm not quite sure what the best solution here would be. It almost seems like it might be best to combine the two pages, but I do feel like that might be doing them a disservice. Perhaps we should just leave the large number of disambiguation links as-is? I'm not sure what the protocol is for this kind of scenario.
Also, this isn't as generally applicable, but I thought it was funny. The government of Auckland/NZ is currently building an express bus stop in Te Atatū – and the reason I haven't specified which suburb is because one of the directions has its stop in Te Atatū South, and the other has its stop in Te Atatū Peninsula. Henrygg98: I'm not sure what the best thing is to do either! There weren't always two distinct suburbs, and one isn't more important than the other (compared to, say, Henderson and Henderson North), and people do make references to Te Atatū without saying which they're meaning. Having three articles was very redundant, but having a single article doesn't feel right either, since the two areas have a lot of cultural/historical differences. --

- @ Henrygg98: I'm not sure if that would solve a lot of the issues, like features along the motorway corridor that aren't clearly north or south, or people using Te Atatū to refer to the general area. | Kia ora koutou; so good to be a Wikipedian at Large on the West Coast again. • I've been setting up visits and field photography trips to Karamea (Oct 15), Fox Glacier (Oct 2), and Whataroa (Oct 9), and working through the typewritten Whataroa South Westland: Centennial Report 1879–1979 • Great work from Panamitsu creating the Waitangiroto Nature Reserve article, and Paora with Gerhard Mueller and Kere Tutoko (Q122695369). Prosperosity created Wikidata items and Commons categories for most of Hokitika's public sculpture, and I added over 100 photos and more items • Hoping to tag along on a kōtuku tour, but I'm also approaching photographers who've taken good pics of the colony about releasing their work for Commons • We should improve the kōtuku and Waitangiroto River articles with journal articles—and the Whataroa River and Waitangitāhuna River articles could do with a tidy up (there's a great article in Tane about how the former split in two, and the implications for the Waitangiroto) • Coming up are the Glacier Country tourism articles: can I recommend Lynley Hargreaves' new book Vanishing Ice as a reference? • Gillespies Beach Beginnings is recently transcribed and available in Wikisource as well • Keep at it folks, and I'll drop you a line in a week and a bit. — Giantflightlessbirds |  |

Hi, User:David Nind has just finished validating Municipal and Official Handbook of the City of Auckland for me. It's a 1922 publication relating the history and current state of Auckland City of the time. There are still six double-spread photos to sort out, but all the other images are in place. Hi! On my travels around the sarrusophone-related article-sphere, I have noticed that the instrument held by Auckland Museum ( image) is probably not a bass in B♭, but a baritone in E♭. We can differentiate easily based primarily its its smaller size, but also the configuration of the bends of tubing; note how in the bass sarrusophone ( image), the first 180° bow in the tubing occurs near the bottom of the instrument, whereas in the baritone ( image), it occurs at about the half-way point. Just a thought... perhaps we could pop a bassoon reed on it and give it a wee toot next time I'm in Auckland :) — Jon ( talk) 02:58, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Would you mind avoiding {{
conv}} and writing {{
convert}} instead. The saving in the amount of typing is inconsequential so conv has no benefit. The downside is that it causes confusion for other editors who know what convert is (or at least, could guess), but who may not know what conv is. There are over 3.2 million {{convert}} templates in articles but hardly any {{conv}}. A complication is that {{
cvt}} is a useful abbreviation for convert and cvt has an extra property, namely that it sets |abbr=on so unit symbols are shown, not names. Some editors assume {{conv}} does the same, but it doesn't.

- I don't have a general guide/workflow, but my advice is to see if there are any tribunal reports for geographically close iwi/hapū, to make sure that multiple perspectives are incorporated, and searching for keywords to see if any cultural reports for local councils have been created (as long as these don't have a notice that states the reports can't be reused). Usually I try to prioritise sources based on who wrote them (directly from iwi/hapū who relate to the topic > by a Māori author > by a recent historian or archaeologist > historical documents from ethnographers). --

WikiCon Aotearoa 2024 is the annual gathering for all new and experienced editors of Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikisource projects. Kia ora, are you able to tutor me in how to create basic outline maps for use in Wikipedia articles ? If not, can you point me to someone who could ? I am keen to learn how to do this myself. Here is an example of what I want to do. There is an article Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve that needs a map showing the extent of the reserve. The application document for the designation includes a map. See page 7 at [1], I would like to have a map in the infobox, showing the perimeter of the reserve, overlaid on at least some basic geographic information. Perhaps Open Streetmap is the way to go, but I have never worked with it. Who can teach me ? Marshelec ( talk) 03:27, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Marshelec: Sure thing! I think the easiest thing to show you would be how to create an outline map for a building (since they're small and rectangular) on Open Street Map and how to link this to Wikidata. The dark sky reserve would be the same in principle, just a lot larger. Do you have time tomorrow evening (around 7?) --
