Westmorland and Furness Council

England are elected every four years.
Political control
The first election to the council was held in 2022, initially operating as a shadow authority until 1 April 2023 when the new council took over the functions in of the abolished
Cumbria County Council and the three abolished district councils of
Barrow-in-Furness Borough Council ,
Eden District Council , and
South Lakeland District Council . Political control of the council since 2023 has been held by the following parties:

Leadership
Political leadership is provided by the
leader of the council . The first leader is Jonathan Brook, a Liberal Democrat, who was also the last leader of South Lakeland District Council.
