Why????

We put so much work into that page and tailored it specifically to what we thought was important and what mattered to us. Why did you change everything???? You even removed the photos of the folks that started this whole project. And now I can't even undo your edits. I'm not concerned with how many edits you've done or what awards you have, I'm concerned that you took something away from us based on a single person's judgment. Why????

If you don't know what I'm talking about, it is the Shiba Inu Puppy Cam page. YumiFan ( talk) 17:24, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

A look at the history of Shiba Inu Puppy Cam shows edit summaries of what changes were made and why. Please also note the text below the "save page" button when you edit, which reads in part: If you do not want your writing to be edited, used, and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here. Wikipedia has many policies and guidelines, and many editors. No single individual's judgment is sufficient to keep an article a certain way; see WP:OWN for a discussion of that point.
I am not taking sides on this content discussion (although I can assure you that GlassCobra's experience around here is well-demonstrated), but if you have any question or comments about specific edits to the article, the best place to discuss them is its talk page.  Frank  |   talk  17:52, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes, while I appreciate your sarcasm Frank, I don't mind at all that the text is edited. I do mind that it's edited by someone who doesn't know the subject matter. We can't go and delete important facts about the French Revolution just because (in our personal opinion) they don't belong on the page, can we now? The people who built, designed and edit this page have been with this project since the beginning. YumiFan ( talk) 18:02, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

There was no sarcasm included in my comment. Again, I suggest you read WP:OWN. If you feel that information has been removed that is verifiable and adds to the article, again - I suggest it be discussed at the article's talk page, not on an individual's talk page.  Frank  |   talk  18:19, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Frank- this has nothing to do with the Shiba Inu Puppy Cam page, but everything to do with the one person that changed most of the formatting and deleted important facts. Why wouldn't I ask the person who did this, WHY they did it? What if he never goes to that page again and sees the talk section?? YumiFan ( talk) 18:28, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello YumiFan, thanks for stopping by. Please take a closer look at the edits, there was very little that was actually removed the page. I was merely cleaning up, moving all the images down to the bottom so they wouldn't clog up the page and impede readability. I removed some of the external links at the bottom as per our external links guidelines, and also did a little re-arranging. As Frank noted, even though the Puppy Cam itself may be yours (as your statements suggest), this article is not. Please see Wikipedia:Ownership of articles. As you appear to have a relationship with the website, I'd recommend you also read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Thanks. Glass Cobra 18:57, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

I don't have a relationship with the website and the puppy cam is not mine. I'm just one of the folks that worked very hard to collect everything. Wikipedia is for everyone, not just you. We had on there what was created out of the community, who started it, and what was significant. You single-handedly made judgment calls about the content and layout. You can say whatever you want to "put us in our place" but the long and the short of it is it doesn't matter. If you knew your subject matter really well and created a Wikipedia site about an event, and someone who never even participated in the actual event changed and deleted a number of things, you can't convince me you wouldn't feel the same way. YumiFan ( talk) 20:28, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

If we can't convince you, it would seem pointless to try. But, as you have been directed to WP:OWN a total of four times now, perhaps you could tell us: have you actually read it? It is very important to understand what Wikipedia is, and - just as important - what it is not. Furthermore, it is important to understand that Wikipedia is about verifiability, not truth. If you have worked had hard to collect information from reliable sources to put into an article, then any competent editor should be able to integrate the information into the article, because your sources would be known and available to others. No specific individual automatically has "better" info on a topic - that's not how Wikipedia works. If we only allowed people to edit articles about things they know alot about, this would be a very different place. I can assure you that not only didn't I know anything about Allie Beth Martin a few days ago, I had never heard of her. And, I helped out on another article, about Jacob Panken, also in the last week, and a WP:DYK point from that article should appear on the main page soon. If only people who were subject matter experts had been able to create and update those articles, they might not have been written...ever.  Frank  |   talk  23:32, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes, Frank, I have read WP:OWN and thank you for pointing that out in such a kind way. My only (and last) question: what happens if something which will eventually become history, is new?? If people lived through a current experience, there are no ways to verify that experience yet. During 911, there were people on the ground looking up as planes crashed into buildings. How can anyone possible verify or put a footnote on something that happened first hand?? You can reply, "well a number of people saw that at the time," but you couldn't verify that either. History is not history until time has passed. If those people were interviewed after the fact, then you'd reference the source of the interview, not the person. It may be very insignificant to you, but if you could lift the veil and see what came out of that little project that IS verifiable, maybe you wouldn't be so full of yourselves in pointing out all the things that we've already read in the Wiki Rules and Regs and adhered to. YumiFan ( talk) 00:52, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

I haven't read a single word of the article; this discussion is about you asking why the article was changed. Regarding history and current experiences, if what is being written cannot be verified in a reliable source, we cannot include it in Wikipedia. It does not matter that an editor has first-hand knowledge of something; if it cannot be verified, it can (and most often should) be challenged and removed. This discussion is really not about a specific article; it's about policies that we follow in building this encyclopedia for every article.  Frank  |   talk  01:47, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

The number in parentheses is the total for the SERIES. The number outside the parens is the total for the GAME. No, actually, UAA was the correct place for my report. AIV is only for obvious and persistent vandals that are active now, as noted in the very clear instructions on the page. Speedy deletion declined: Loki installers for linux gamers

Hello GlassCobra, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I declined the speedy deletion of Loki installers for linux gamers - a page you tagged - because: Mentioned in a forum post by a programmer with his own article is *just barely* enough to get through A7. PROD or take to AfD if required. This one is pretty borderline. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion before tagging further pages. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. Ged UK  13:43, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

OK, I know you don't need to look at the criteria, so please excuse the slightly short tone of that template! I need to refine it somewhat, I think. Anyway, the speedy was borderline, in my opinion, though I know (as I've already had a talkpage message) that that was a somewhat contentious call. Ged UK  14:19, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

It is a stylistic choice to not have the template collapse because it is not used on any other pages that have more than one navbox template other than the main article where there are two collapsed templates already. Please do not make this one collapsable.— Ryūlóng ( 竜龙) 04:14, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Not sure why you waited until you'd archived our conversation and dismissed it (in a rather rude manner, IMO) before finally making something close to a cogent argument; however, I still disagree with you. The pages on which a template is transcluded should not affect whether or not it's made to conform with all the others. Are you going to be monitoring all pages on which the template is transcluded? If so, will you restore the change to the template when it's added to a page with another template of this nature on it? Since I doubt it, I recommend that we skip going in circles and simply do the right thing here. I suppose the other alternative would be to pursue dispute resolution, but I'd prefer not to unless necessary. Glass Cobra 04:21, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
It's a stylistic choice that these templates (and a few others) don't have a collapsable state. The only thing that makes it "conform" with anything else is that it uses {{ navbox}}. As I've said, the only place where there are other similar navboxes is on Power Rangers where it is the top template. Unless you can provide some sort of format where it does not collapse at all unless there are other navbox templates, I would appreciate if you did not change the state of the template again.— Ryūlóng ( 竜龙) 04:45, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
I changed the state to autocollapse so now it will not collapse unless there are other navbox templates that are collapsible. Powergate92 Talk 06:25, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
