WikiProject Oklahoma and Tulsa

I just left a message on the projects talk page but I wanted to ask you as well since you commented before. Have there been any comments about adding these projects to the list of projects supported by WPUS? -- Kumioko ( talk) 00:27, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Not yet it seems the bot who was to notify everyone in the project of the discussion hasn't done it yet i'm going to give it a day before i notify everyone by myself.-- Dch eagle 00:32, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Are you contacting the members from the membership page. I would be glad to send the message out using AWB if that would be easier for you. -- Kumioko ( talk) 00:40, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Sure if you don't mind-- Dch eagle 00:43, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
No problem at all what do you want it to say? If you could provide me with the message as well as the edit summery that would be great. -- Kumioko ( talk) 00:45, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
{{tmbox |image=[[Image:Oklahoma project logo.png|50px]]| text = This has been sent to you requesting that you share your thoughts to an ongoing discussion that's taking place on the projects [[Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Oklahoma#Suggestion for this project to be supported by WikiProject United States|talk page]].}} as for the summery just use "Your input is requested at WikiProject Oklahoma"-- Dch eagle 01:03, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Thank you. I will do that today unless the bot beats me too it. -- Kumioko ( talk) 12:57, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Ok.-- Dch eagle 13:42, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
As you can see below the message has been sent to all the active participants of WP Oklahoma. You might want to go back to the bot and cancel the message so it doesn't go out twice. -- Kumioko ( talk) 23:48, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Ok I will do that. Thanks again for sending the message out for me.-- Dch eagle 00:24, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
No problem, glad to help. -- Kumioko ( talk) 00:51, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Sorry it took so long to reply, got a lot going on in real life at the moment. When you say banner replacement are you referring to replacing the UOFOK banner with Oklahoma/OU task force? -- Kumioko ( talk) 18:14, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Yea I have no idea how to replace the banners. I know we need to update Oklahoma/OU and replace the UOFOK banner but i have no idea how to go about it.-- Dch eagle 04:13, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
Ok no problem, there are a couple ways. The 2 best ways are that we can do it with AWB or you can request a bot do it. If you have AWB I can give you some code that will do it or else if you want I can do it if you like. First though we need to implement the code from the sandbox to the live template. -- Kumioko ( talk) 00:03, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
I don't have AWB so I cant do it that way, you could do it or have a bot do it ether why is fine with me. I will implement the new code right now.-- Dch eagle 00:11, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Ok I'll work on it. Just a heads up though it will take me a couple days. I still have limited time on the computer but that should be cleared up in the next couple days. -- Kumioko ( talk) 00:19, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
That's fine no rush I'm updating the temp right now.-- Dch eagle 00:20, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Well, no problem, it usually takes a while to replace a banner. DodoBot can help to replace it just like Kumioko did when pulling some US-related child projects under WikiProject United States. JJ98 ( Talk / Contributions) 03:56, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

The banners been updated now all that needs to be done is to replace the banner on like 600 pages give or take a few.-- Dch eagle 04:11, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Tulsa town hall

I have restored Tulsa town hall and moved it to User:Dcheagle/Tulsa town hall per your request.

I have also removed the AfD notice, added "noindex" so that it will not be indexed by search engines (it is a userspace draft, not an article), and I have also commented out the categories, as these are not used in user space.

Please note that I will expect to see the draft worked on, with reliable sources that are independent of the subject being used as references, and an indication that the town hall meets the criteria for inclusion.

Should this not occur in a reasonable amount of time, I will consider taking the page to Miscellany for deletion for discussion.

Regards, PhantomSteve/ talk| contribs\ 15:37, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Oh, as a postscript - as mentioned at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tulsa Town Hall, having notable speakers at the hall does not make the hall notable. It needs to be notable in its own right. PhantomSteve/ talk| contribs\ 15:39, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Do you intend on continuing to work on it and add reliable independent sources to show its notability? If not, I will delete it again, or take it to Miscellany for deletion.

Identifying vandalism

I am concerned that you do not understand what "vandalism" is. This is not vandalism. Vandalism is only an edit that intentionally harms the encyclopedia. The edit in question did no such thing - it reverted a copyvio out of an article, amongst other bold actions. You, in fact, violated the copyright of CBS Interactive by reinserting material from [1] to our article. Please be more careful.

Further, this edit is a direct copyvio from the same linked source, and still further, is an unlabled revert.

Please review WP:CP, WP:REVERT and WP:NOTVAND and confirm that you will abide by these policies going forward. Thanks. Hipocrite ( talk) 13:06, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Last warning

This is your final warning - if you continue to copy text from other sources into Wikipedia, you will be blocked. Your most recent "added again" was obvious plagurism ( [2] vs [3]) - it uses the same sentence structure (sometimes reordered) and the paragraphs are identical in topic and scope. For more help in writing your own words, as opposed to stealing someone elses, please review WP:PLAG. Hipocrite ( talk) 14:05, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Dcheagle - just to reinforce this, the text you have added is a clear copyright violation. Should you readd it without re-writing, I will block you myself. WormTT · ( talk) 14:07, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Kane's nationality

So you're saying that even if someone was born and raised in a certain country, it's not considered part of their nationality? Makes no sense to me.

Yes it does make since, I was born in Germany but I'm not a German-American. There is no source that can be found that stats that he is Spanish in anyway and till one is found it stays out of the article. Listcruft

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with your assertation that List of city nicknames in Oklahoma is Listcruft. Wikipedia states that Listcruft is indiscriminate and trivial. Yeah, many of these cities aren't very notable, but they all have references and I worked hard to clean up the List of city nicknames in the United States article. The one /most/ people would look at, and I tried to move the least notable to more specific articles I.E. List of fictional cities in Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia etc. If you are worried about trivial lists that actually ARE cruft, please take a look at List of fictional dogs or List of fictional cats. I tried (and failed) to clean up the list of fictional dogs article. Anyway, also let me apologise if this isn't exactly where I should have posted because.... I couldn't tell where I should put this. =/ Remove it if you like, I'll check here for a reply. Thanks, Ncboy2010 ( talk) 12:38, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Article Feedback newsletter

Hey all!

So, big news this week - on Tuesday, we ramped up to 5 percent of articles :). There's been a lot more feedback (pardon the pun) as I'm sure you've noticed, and to try and help we've scheduled a large number of office hours sessions, including one this evening at 22:00 UTC in the #wikimedia-office connect channel, and another at 01:00 UTC for the aussies amongst us :). I hope to see some of you there - if any of you can't make it but have any questions, I'm always happy to help.

Page Triage newsletter

Hey all. Some quick but important updates on what we've been up to and what's coming up next :).

The curation toolbar, our Wikimedia-supported twinkle replacement. We're going to be deploying it, along with a pile of bugfixes, to wikipedia on 9 August. After a few days to check it doesn't make anything explode or die, we'll be sticking up a big notice and sending out an additional newsletter inviting people to test it out and give us feedback :). This will be followed by two office hours sessions - one on Tuesday the 14th of August at 19:00 UTC for all us Europeans, and one on Wednesday the 15th at 23:00 UTC for the East Coasters out there :). As always, these will be held in #wikimedia-office; drop me a note if you want to know how to easily get on IRC, or if you aren't able to attend but would like the logs.

I hope to see a lot of you there; it's going to be a big day for everyone involved, I think :). I'll have more notes after the deployment! Okeyes (WMF) ( talk) 20:14, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

New Pages newsletter

Hey all :)

A couple of new things.

First, you'll note that all the project titles have now changed to the Page Curation prefix, rather than having the New Pages Feed prefix. This is because the overarching project name has changed to Page Curation; the feed is still known as New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar is still the Curation Toolbar. Hopefully this will be the last namechange ;p.

On the subject of the Curation Toolbar (nice segue, Oliver!) - it's now deployed on Wikipedia. Just open up any article in the New Pages Feed and it should appear on the right.

It's still a beta version - bugs are expected - and we've got a lot more work to do. But if you see something going wrong, or a feature missing, drop me a note or post on the project talkpage and I'll be happy to help :). Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) ( talk) 00:08, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Since the news that FCW changed their name to NXT, the NXT and FCW pages haven't yet fully updated with the changes, like the FCW titles being deactivated for the NXT Championship. The FCW page has the updated roster and staff, yet only have one note about the name change. Can you help me with this?-- Mikeymike2001 ( talk) 04:19, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

What is it that you need help with?-- Dch eagle | GO TEAM USA 04:22, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
I need help changing the FCW article to reflect the name change to NXT Wrestling, and fix the WWE NXT page to reflect it's change from TV show to developmental territory for WWE. I asked Vj, and he said change WWE NXT to cancelled program when it still airs overseas and to change FCW to NXT Wrestling with the note of all FCW titles deactivated when the NXT Championship was created.-- Mikeymike2001 ( talk) 04:28, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
If you have sources that state the changes, I will take a look at cracking some of this out in the morning as its getting let here in Oklahoma and I have a lot of other things I need to complete tonight.-- Dch eagle | GO TEAM USA 04:38, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

My ignorance

What can I say, except, thanks for the correction. I think I've made it clear I'm not all that knowledgeable on this subject; my interest is in good writing, but sometimes factual ignorance is going to pop up. I'm sure you'll be able to find more examples of my ignorance; I will be glad for your corrections. 76.106.149.108 ( talk) 04:26, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Its ok it happens to the best of us at times, farther more the reason I reverted most of your edit to begin with had more to do with this (whatever that means—with no links nor antecedent text, it's simply confusing) then anything else. After looking into your other edits I had planed to re-add them, you however jumped the gun before I could put them back with slight tweaks which I was working on at the time. I hope that you plan to improve other things with the page and others.-- Dch eagle | Join the Fight! 04:37, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, once I saw that line (which I had not intended to keep in the article), I figured that might have been what got you predisposed to dismiss my work. I can see that you've spent a hell of a lot of time on that article, so I know it means a lot to you. Hope most of my work this evening meets with your approval, but if not, I'm always open to discussion. Heading to bed; enjoy your editing. 76.106.149.108 ( talk) 04:41, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject Westerns

Hi, seems Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Westerns articles by quality statistics is finally working, the WP 1.0 bot looks close to being fixed, I think. Have managed to tag almost 1000 articles for the Westerns project, most are just Stub/Start quality, but despite plugging the project to numerous other WikiProject pages, particularly American ones, and sending a few invites to editors who created a lot of the film articles I tagged, there does not appear to a great deal of interest, yet. I'm thinking this is because the setup may not be complete, wondered if you had any thoughts as to what else should or needs be done with the WP:WESTERNS project pages to help motivate editors to join? Is a little disconcerting that reception of this project has not been as popular as I predicted... Thanks, Ma®©usBritish{ chat} 19:23, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

I'll take a look, as for project members joining sometimes it just takes time.-- Dch eagle | Join the Fight! 20:25, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
Well, hopefully not too long.. would hate for it to be declared an "inactive" project after all this effort. Ma®©usBritish{ chat} 22:30, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
That wont happen as long as you and I are active in the project which we are.-- Dch eagle | Join the Fight! 22:31, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
Takes more than 2 people if we're ever going to offer A-Class Assessments though.. I know a lot of WikiProjects don't have ACRs, but I do think they offer an incentive for people wanting to write or develop quality articles.. and there are a lot of really piss-poor Stubs that I have tagged, some are literally 8 or 9 words, like: "Title is a 1952 Western film starring John Wayne." Hardly a thrilling read... Ma®©usBritish{ chat} 23:01, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation update

Hey all :). We've just deployed another set of features for Page Curation. They include flyouts from the icons in Special:NewPagesFeed, showing who reviewed an article and when, a listing of this in the "info" flyout, and a general re-jigging of the info flyout - we've also fixed the weird bug with page_titles_having_underscores_instead_of_spaces in messages sent to talkpages, and introduced CSD logging! As always, these features will need some work - but any feedback would be most welcome. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) ( talk) 18:20, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Sorry!

I'm trying to talk with WWEJobber on why having two Vinces and Triple Hs on the List of WWE personnel is wrong. He wants two of them on the page because he thinks having two articles on Vince would count as a double entry and with Triple H's increasing work backstage deserves a double entry because of his in-ring activities. Plus he attacked me and User:Vjmlhds on our talkpages.-- Mikeymike2001 ( talk) 00:38, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Dcheagle. This will be, if not our final newsletter, one of the final ones :). After months of churning away at this project, our final version (apart from a few tweaks and bugfixes) is now live. Changes between this and the last release include deletion tag logging, a centralised log, and fixes to things like edit summaries.

Hopefully you like what we've done with the place; suggestions for future work on it, complaints and bugs to the usual address :). We'll be holding a couple of office hours sessions, which I hope you'll all attend. Many thanks, Okeyes (WMF) ( talk) 11:25, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

The Olive Branch: A Dispute Resolution Newsletter (Issue #2)

This edition The Olive Branch is focusing on a 2nd dispute resolution RfC. Two significant proposals have been made. Below we describe the background and recent progress and detail those proposals. Please review them and follow the link at the bottom to comment at the RfC. We need your input!

Background

Until late 2003, Jimmy Wales was the arbiter in all major disputes. After the Mediation Committee and the Arbitration Committee were founded, Wales delegated his roles of dispute resolution to these bodies. In addition to these committees, the community has developed a number of informal processes of dispute resolution. At its peak, over 17 dispute resolution venues existed. Disputes were submitted in each venue in a different way.

Due to the complexity of Wikipedia dispute resolution, members of the community were surveyed in April 2012 about their experiences with dispute resolution. In general, the community believes that dispute resolution is too hard to use and is divided among too many venues. Many respondents also reported their experience with dispute resolution had suffered due to a shortage of volunteers and backlogging, which may be due to the disparate nature of the process.

An evaluation of dispute resolution forums was made in May this year, in which data on response and resolution time, as well as success rates, was collated. This data is here.

Progress so far
Stage one of the dispute resolution noticeboard request form. Here, participants fill out a request through a form, instead of through wikitext, making it easier for them to use, but also imposing word restrictions so volunteers can review the dispute in a timely manner.

Leading off from the survey in April and the evaluation in May, several changes to dispute resolution noticeboard (DRN) were proposed. Rather than using a wikitext template to bring disputes to DRN, editors used a new javascript form. This form was simpler to use, but also standardised the format of submissions and applied a word limit so that DRN volunteers could more easily review disputes. A template to summarise, and a robot to maintain the noticeboard, were also created.

As a result of these changes, volunteers responded to disputes in a third of the time, and resolved them 60% faster when compared to May. Successful resolution of disputes increased by 17%. Submissions were 25% shorter by word count.(see Dispute Resolution Noticeboard Statistics - August compared to May)

Outside of DRN other simplification has taken place. The Mediation Cabal was closed in August, and Wikiquette assistance was closed in September. Nevertheless, around fifteen different forums still exist for the resolution of Wikipedia disputes.

Proposed changes

Given the success of the past efforts at DR reform, the current RFC proposes we implement:

1) A submission gadget for every DR venue tailored to the unique needs of that forum.

2) A universal dispute resolution wizard, accessible from Wikipedia:Dispute resolution.

  • This wizard would ask a series of structured questions about the nature of the dispute.
  • It would then determine to which dispute resolution venue a dispute should be sent.
  • If the user agrees with the wizard's selection, s/he would then be asked a series of questions about the details of the dispute (for example, the usernames of the involved editors).
  • The wizard would then submit a request for dispute resolution to the selected venue, in that venue's required format (using the logic of each venue's specialized form, as in proposal #1). The wizard would not suggest a venue which the user has already identified in answer to a question like "What other steps of dispute resolution have you tried?".
  • Similar to the way the DRN request form operates, this would be enabled for all users. A user could still file a request for dispute resolution manually if they so desired.
  • Coding such a wizard would be complex, but the DRN gadget would be used as an outline.
  • Once the universal request form is ready (coded by those who helped create the DRN request form) the community will be asked to try out and give feedback on the wizard. The wizard's logic in deciding the scope and requirements of each venue would be open to change by the community at any time.

3) Additionally, we're seeking any ideas on how we can attract and retain more dispute resolution volunteers.

Please share your thoughts at the RfC.

Thank you for contributing to the discussion of displaying the rankings of future opponents on the team's schedule. It seems that a certain user with the IP address 72.50.148.28 does not want to participate in the discussion and insists on continuously removing the rankings, thus creating an edit war. Do you have moderation capability, or know of how to contact a moderator/administrator to rectify this situation? If the user isn't willing to work within the parameters of the discussion, then I don't see any other alternative. Thanks again! Swcrowe message 22:38, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) ( talk) 12:24, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. AFT5 newsletter

Hey all :). A couple of quick updates (one small, one large)

First, we're continuing to work on some ways to increase the quality of feedback and make it easier to eliminate and deal with non-useful feedback: hopefully I'll have more news for you on this soon :).

Second, we're looking at ways to increase the actual number of users patrolling and take off some of the workload from you lot. Part of this is increasing the prominence of the feedback page, which we're going to try to do with a link at the top of each article to the relevant page. This should be deployed on Tuesday (touch wood!) and we'll be closely monitoring what happens. Let me know if you have any questions or issues :). Oklahoma football

I'm new to Wikipedia and not sure how everything works, but I decided to start with something I love; Oklahoma football. While looking at the season articles, I noticed that the schedule was using rankings from the Coaches' Poll, while nearly every other CFB team page is using the AP Poll, so I decided to change that by switching all of OU's articles to the AP Poll. I happened to notice that the 2013 Oklahoma football page had already been created and I looked through its history and found that you are the one who makes the schedule section, and you're putting it in the Coaches' Poll. I've already changed it, and I'd like to ask you to always start it out in the AP Poll.-- Kobra98 ( talk) 00:25, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
