Reference in lead

@ Qumran1: This is already referenced under Big 12 Conference#History. Per MOS:CITELEAD, if it's already cited in the main part of the article, it doesn't need to be cited in the lead (with the exception of quotes. -- MuZemike 16:21, 18 September 2021 (UTC) reply

School Links

Throughout this, and other Big 12 pages, when a school's name (e.g. "Kansas State") is listed:
1) At times, there is an associated link to the university page (e.g. Kansas State University)
2) Other times, there is an associated link to the athletic page (e.g. Kansas State Wildcats)
3) Still other times, there is no associate link at all.
What is the guideline as to when which option is used? TDinKS ( talk) 13:47, 19 September 2023 (UTC) reply

Academic Rank

Academics have strongly criticized US News and World Reports Academic rankings due to faulty Metrics. 2603:800C:400:8469:A408:1A57:93D6:41AD ( talk) 04:45, 19 March 2024 (UTC) reply

I have used the College Factual Rankings system for 2024. Why?
"Arguments critical of U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Rankings include that it is not possible to arrive at a single number which characterizes university performance; ratings can be easily manipulated; and ratings may include subjective characteristics, like "reputation", as determined by surveying university administrators, such as chancellors or deans. Critics say rankings have incentivized institutions to encourage more unqualified students to apply (in order to increase selectivity) and are a better measure of the abilities students had when they arrived than what they learned from higher education. In 2023, a third of the 196 law schools annually surveyed had withdrawn cooperation from the U.S. News rankings.
So I used College Factual®Rankings. Why over US news? U.S. News segments their rankings into ten different buckets; national universities, national liberal arts colleges, four sets of regional universities and four sets of regional colleges. A school will only show up in one of these buckets, reducing the number of schools competing for top ranking.
Therefore, it may appear as if a particular college is ranked much higher in U.S. News than at College Factual. In reality, that is because the comparison pool is much smaller than our Best Colleges ranking, which puts all colleges and universities into one large bucket for a truly nationwide ranking.
We do believe that having various ways to segment rankings is a good thing. To this end, we offer both regional and state level rankings, and plan to offer many more segments, such as rankings by the highest degree offering. (This would be similar to U.S. News ‘National Universities’ ranking, which is only those universities that offer PhDs.)
However, we’ve found that most people want to know how a college ranks overall, which is why the Best Colleges, our base ranking, looks at all four-year colleges nationwide. With this as the foundation, segments can be quickly developed, but you will always know where a college or university ranks compared to all others across the nation." Simple and understandable. And comprehensive, including 2,217 Public, Private, and Church related Universities.
Big 12 Universities ranked by College Factual
  1. 36 University of Texas
  2. 75 Iowa State University
  3. 80 Texas Christian University
