If you are one of the ribbons template guys, how do I get, say,

to work at a width less than 60? I can't add an oak leaf (or leaves) to any ribbon of less than 60px, it seems, without it looking like this:

Hey, bahamut. As you saw, I put all of the Chief of Chaplains pages I've been working on into the leadership area of the military navboxes. Wouldn't this be correct? The Sergeant Major of the Army is on there, and he's the highest ranking enlisted man/advisor to the Chief of Staff. I don't understand why you keep deleting the lede from the article. Yes I realize it is somewhat duplicative but thats what the lede does it summarizes the article and is by its very definition duplicative. One sentance does not summerize the article. As the article develops more content will be added and the article will grow so that the lede is less duplicative but the way the lede is written we probably wont need to add too muuch to it for a while. It covers his early life, joining the military, the action and the white house announcement of the approval for him to get the Medal of Honor. I am going to reinstate it one more time and then I will leave a comment on the talk page. Yes I am quite aware of what the reference says about what goes in the lede. Im really not interested in getting into an edit war over this, especially this early in the developement of the article and with so many other edits I can spend time with. There are a lot of other MOH articles that arent actively being edited (Miller for example) and right now this one is very active. I will be quite content with letting the masses have their turn at editing the article and once more information and sources are available and the edit volume on the article stabilizes Ill build it up to GA with the others. The bottom line again though is 1 sentance doesn't sum up the article and I am rather suprprised that an editor with as much time on WP as you would think that 1 sentance and 20 words would adequetaly sum up a twice deployed SSgt who is receiving the Medal of Honor. Even if mine was somewhat lengthy duplicative its better than whats there now. Remember the article is about the individual, not the event, so just summarizing the event (even if the event is what establishes notability) does not summerize the article or the individual. -- Kumioko ( talk) 18:35, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

I didn't actually get the image from NARA, I was provided the image and NARA number from the United States Marine Corps History Division. The NARA hasn't digitized and posted that particular group of images (yet), but Ms. Kaljot from the HD borrowed it to scan it for me for this purpose. If you feel we need to better source it, I can forward you the email correspondance I had with her, which includes a scan of the archive check stub, and possibly run it into OTRS if necessary. It's not a pressing issue right now. The image is in Draining and development of the Everglades, a featured article, which has to have all the description pages in tip top shape. The article has already appeared on the main page, and it doesn't really get a lot of hits...about 100 a day maybe. So unless someone comes along and pitches a holy conniption about it, it'll probably ok. If that happens, however, I may have to drag you into the fray to explain why the image doesn't appear in the archives upon searching. -- Moni3 ( talk) 17:40, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

The ribbon image File:Inter-american defense board medal ribbon.PNG just appeared in the Graphic Lab’s daily Top 4 as a candidate for speedy conversion to vector art. Seeing that you uploaded a small raster version of the same decoration some time ago, and seem now to be set up to produce SVGs of such items, I thought it might be more efficient for you to generate a new version than for someone else to ‘reinvent the wheel’. Hey Bahamut! The article Brazil and weapons of mass destruction was recently nominated for deletion. The result was keep and the case was closed yesterday. During the AfD, I inserted a rescue tag to see if we could improve the article. I edited the article and added about 20 reliable sources, including SIPRI, Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control, Arms Control Association, GlobalSecurity.org, Global Security Institute, German Council on Foreign Relations, GlobalSecurity.org, to name a few. I didn't make any radical changes, I basically reworded some parts (to reflect the sources), improved the lead and added a history section. Now, User:NPguy has reverted all my edits, erasing all the sources. If you have a chance, could you please leave your input on the article's talk page? I think that will really be helpful. Thanks! I have, as of yet, had difficulty with .svg images. They just haven't come out right. I do know that you prefer them, and I will produce these once I can get satisfactory results. I was trying to get the flags to appear uniform for a cleaner look, and I think this did work out. Once I can do this correctly, I will update the older images. Leatherneck, don't feel like a step-child when it comes down to getting older (or newer) equipment. (Adding the statement to the article implies that.) Newer and older are terms which have broad implications. And when it comes to comparing Army and Marine equipment, much of the comparison is apples & oranges. Without a RS, your statement regarding the age of the gear is POV. Indeed, the equipment may be older, but the reasons are myriad. Marines may take better care of their gear so that it lasts longer. The different missions call for different equipment. (Their mission of amphibious landings has given them lots of new landing craft, including highly advanced systems!) Marines are in the forefront of developing non-lethal military gear so in that respect they are getting newer gear. Marine boots are superior. I think I may have a ref for Iowa at home, I would have to look for it though. At the moment I need to get off this laptop cuz my friend is coming back, but if I get a chance I'll see about getting you the Iowa info tomorrow.

Ok, I went looking for Iowa's ribbons at home and could not locate such an image, so I went fishing online and found two sources you may or may not be able to use to get an accurate picture of what Iowa received. The first is here, but Iowa appears to be on duty and thus I would take that one with a grain of salt. The other is here, but the image is small and thus may not be easiest source to go by for a ribbon recreation for the article. I do like this source just a little bit more than the other though since this one seems to be coming from the USN, so I suspect that the ribbon collection is both accurate and up to date in this one. Hi, I read your edit on the Carrier Air Wing Nine page, where you removed VMFA-323 from the wing (someone unnamed put it in). However, I disagree with your view that VMFA-323 is only "temporarily" assigned to CVW-9. The question is, how you define "temorarily", as VMFA-323 is assigned to CVW-9 since 2007. To reduce costs, the US Navy assigned USMC VMFA units to its CVWs for over a decade now. Be that as it may, in my understanding the list of squadrons of a CVW would incorporate all squadrons assigned at this moment, like during a deployment. Forgive me if my Wikipedia etiquette is wrong. I'm a newbie.

I added to the USMC OCS article that competition usually requires that scores be much higher than 225. Don't you think that a potential officer candidate would like to know that a 225 PFT will be extremely uncompetitive when applying to OCC? My recruiter has made it clear that scores lower than 270 stand a much lower chance of being selected. He also told me that the scores of selected individuals from the last class averaged to be 292. I believe the information presented in this sentence is incomplete, if not downright misleading.

Hey, I just noticed your question on the help desk about templates similar to {{ as of}}. I have a couple of things I wanted to add, but I didn't want to add them on the Help Desk because the discussion's resolved. The template {{ update after}} is useful for things that need to be updated after a certain date. To use it, put {{ update after|year|month|day}}. Once the date specified in the parameters has been reached, ^{needs update} will show up. The template will place the page in the category Category:Wikipedia articles in need of updating. You don't need to fill in all of the date parameters. For example, you can just fill in the year parameter, or just the year and month parameter.

Another helpful template is {{ show by date}}. Its parameters are {{ show by date|year|month|day|text before|text after}}. For example, if a celebrity is getting married on 25 November 2010, then you could put the following in his personal life section: {{ show by date|2010|11|25|Smith and Jones will be married on 25 November|Smith and Jones were married on 25 November 2010}}.

If you want to get the time since a certain date or figure out something like how long 6 weeks is from today, you can probably use magic words in conjunction with the template {{ date}}. I could probably puzzle that out, but I'm a bit tired right now.

I am an active duty black belt (MAI) instructor in MCMAP and stumbled upon this incorrect entry. I changed the hours needed for belt advancement based on the 15 November 2010 Marine Corps Order 1500.59. You need to read it. Your numbers are wrong, I corrected them, yet you reverted back to the incorrect numbers. You need to check your most recent sources if you're going to delete something that important. Secondly, I deleted your "nicknames" section for MCMAP. I don't know how many active duty Marines you associate with, but none, and I mean none, use the euphemisms that you listed. You can call the MACE in Quantico, VA and they will back me on this. Back in 2001, maybe a few Marines made those slang terms up, but they are no longer used. They need to be removed.

Greetings! I stumbled onto the edits made by DoD GS-13 San Diego ( talk · contribs) to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. Looking at the edit history, it looks like you've been the participants in…let's call it a ping-pong game over some edits to the article related to access to its recreational and support facilities. I've made a bold edit that hopefully is a compromise between the two. I also warned DoD GS-13 San Diego over his edits to that page. Accordingly, I need to bring up two points here:

• It takes two to edit war. I trust that you will, rather than continue to revert the article, bring up any concerns you have about it on the talk page. That will allow wider consensus to be gained.
• Based on his username, it appears the other user has a conflict of interest with the subject. Based on information on your user page, you have the appearance of a possible COI. In-field familiarity brings expertise to articles, but sometimes it requires stepping back and being cautious with edits.

"avoid defining it in the article unless it is critical.": well, sure, full definitions are generally a distraction. OTOH, MOS says, and the style guidelines have generally said, "Jargon should be explained or avoided", "jargon" meaning anything that non-specialists may have a hard time with. My name is Jared Dalton and I have taken over the MCWAR wikipedia page project from Jill Clay as she has PCS'ed. I was forwarded your comments on her user page and wanted to make initial contact with you to see what I need to provide to you in order to get this page created in a way that will hopefully keep it from getting deleted anymore? The intent from the Director of MCWAR is a stand alone wikipedia page if possible, however, in your comments you did mention possibly being able to make it a subsection to the MCU page. Ultimately the desired endstate is MCWAR on wikipedia, so whatever that ends up taking. I have no history on wikipedia, and barely pass as computer saavy, so I am definitely treading in unknown waters right now. I am more than willing to do the leg work, research, and typing, but we definitely need outside support to get this page permanently posted. Now that WikiProject US has started to take hold I would like to start working on Portal:United States as well. I think the basic portal itself is good but some of the content might need to be updated and I would like to eventually get it a featured portal. With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. Remember when I told you that I remembered reading that Greenpeace alleged the battleships had nuclear tomahawks, but could not locate the source to back it up? Well guess what: I found it (its a pdf file, just an FYI, look at pg 8 & 9). For good measure, I also found this which suggests that the battleships were capable of firing nuclear missiles. I'm not sure how WP:RS applies to the former here, but I do know that if we add this source to the article and combine it with actual US navy material stating that the battleships did not fire their total tomahawk complement it could in theory (specifically WP:V theory) provide a good explanation as to why the battleships did not empty all 32 of their tomahawk missiles at Iraqi targets. Im planning to make an article for William G. Dickinson the founder of Chula Vista but every sources calls him a Colonel. I dont know if he was in the military. I saw you helped the Nick Popaditch article and i thought maybe you can help me with the article. Im making the article in my Sandbox. Right now its just a userbox and some sources im going to use. First I would like to thank you for while in my absence you were the only one to find any merit in the article Angelo Zawaydeh. It has been since been userfied and can be found here. I am wondering if you can be of any assistance in improving the article so that it can mature to the point where it can withstand a future AFD. The userfying admin said he believes article falls under WP:NOTMEMORIAL, and as we have seen in the past that line of reasoning has been used for a reason for supporting deletion in the past regardless of use of reliable sources establishing article subject meets WP:GNG.-- RightCowLeftCoast ( talk) 11:58, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
