What does the asterisk after Masahiro Sakurai mean?

There is no explanation given anywhere, so I thought I'd ask in hopes of getting an answer here. At first, I thought it was a formatting error, but after looking at the source code, I don't think that was the case.

As I have limited experience in the FGC myself, I'll take a shot in the dark and guess that the asterisk is trying to indicate that Super Smash Bros. and the surrounding competitive scene are considered by some to be entirely separate from the FGC. However, I don't think that's reason enough to put an asterisk next to Sakurai's name in the template. Super Smash Bros. is a series of fighting games, and Masahiro Sakurai is the series' creator. I'm beginning to think it was a formatting error after all... If nobody responds after a few days, I'll fix it. HiddenMissiles (talk) 17:49, 17 May 2021 (UTC) reply
@ HiddenMissiles: I'm fairly certain that it was meant to be on a new line; the most recent edit looks like it messed it up. Pbrks ( talk) 03:21, 18 May 2021 (UTC) reply
