Sent to RFD following concerns by another user. Not found on target and no suitable target can be found. Jalen Folf (talk) 21:53, 29 November 2023 (UTC) reply

I think it should be deleted. At some point in 2008 (before the redirect was placed), this was the content of the article: https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Global_warming_wager&oldid=201596006 . The content about such a wager should never have warranted a stand-alone article. If the content was merged into global warming controversy in 2008 then it must have been deleted later, as the term "wager" does not exist in that article. Nor does it exist in the related article climate change denial. Let's just delete it. EMsmile ( talk) 21:57, 29 November 2023 (UTC) reply
  • Weak retarget to Pascal's wager#Climate change since that's the topic this redirect seems to refer to. I'm "weak" on this though since I basically followed clues to find this target, and am not sure if this is the best option, or whether or not any other alternative options exist. Steel1943 ( talk) 22:12, 29 November 2023 (UTC) reply
Retarget as above The targeted section doesn't even exist, so no point on keeping it where it is. ChaotıċEnby( t · c) 22:55, 29 November 2023 (UTC) reply

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the extra space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Bharat (India), is a redirect that targets the same target as the nominated redirect. Steel1943 ( talk) 19:16, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply

  • Delete per Steel1943. -- Kautilya3 ( talk) 20:21, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply
  • Keep per pageviews; missing a space in English is a very common mistake in India so this redirect has seen fairly significant viewership. Helpful. RDAB is but a presumption that these redirects are unhelpful, proven untrue in this instance. J947 edits 23:04, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply

This redirect feels too broad. A Google search shows multiple Mexican restaurants with this name, as well as this pizzeria. The other restaurants don't have Wikipedia pages (at least not yet), but I'm curious if people searching for 'Pepe's' will typically be searching for this pizzeria in New Haven, Connecticut. Significa liberdade (she/her) ( talk) 15:56, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply

  • Comment if this is kept, then the target needs a hatnote to Pepe (disambiguation). Thryduulf ( talk) 17:06, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply
  • Keep I don't think any of the items in the disambiguation page other than the notable pizza restaurant (now chain in multiple US) are referred to as "Pepe's" ever. Since we don't have any articles about (or probably even discuss) other restaurants named Pepe('s) a search result won't help readers about that. And "Pepe's" is a pretty common way to refer to the restaurant in the markets it exists and pizza world. So keep redirect and adding a redirects here hatnote probably makes sense. Skynxnex ( talk) 14:42, 27 November 2023 (UTC) reply
The redirect from Pepe's to Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana is specific and precise, not broad. "Pepe's" is not the official name of the business (please see historical and current photos that have printed signage displaying FRANK PEPE PIZZERIA NAPOLETANA). Pepe's is a common way to refer to the restaurant in the Connecticut market - however, with the expansion across the Eastern US, those may not understand that Pepe's is the same business as Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana. 2600:6C60:140:2E:3C5D:B008:9264:C91D ( talk) 15:39, 27 November 2023 (UTC) reply

This is definitely the most notable currently Nigierien crisis, but there have been other crises in Niger that could possibly be listed here if it were a DAB. There is also the 2009–2010 Nigerien constitutional crisis. It's possible that a hatnote would work, but I'm not sure if this should be DAB'd as I'm not sure if the current crisis is the PTOPIC for this; however, I think that is a reasonable assertion. I just figured it would be best to discuss as I came across this at NPP. Tartar Torte 18:42, 29 November 2023 (UTC) reply

The result of the discussion was retarget to Extraordinary general meeting with a hatnote to Among Us. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 21:22, 7 December 2023 (UTC) reply

The term "Emergency Meeting" is not limited to Among Us, and this would be a confusing target for anyone who searches the term and knows nothing about the game. It's also not a particularly useful redirect – I highly doubt people are searching Emergency Meeting on Wikipedia looking for information on how the mechanic works in-game. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 09:22, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply

  • Retarget to Extraordinary general meeting, possibly with hatnote to Among Us. Somewhat tentatively. We could do with or without the hatnote (it would look Weird but would be somewhat helpful IMO). I don't think there's enough fuel for a dab page here. J947 edits 09:34, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply
  • My first thought was not Extraordinary general meetings, but things like COBRA committee meetings for national emergencies. Quite what the best target for that would be I'm not sure. Thryduulf ( talk) 11:44, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply
  • Keep. When you search "Emergency Meeting" on Google, stuff about Among Us appears. A hatnote to Extraordinary general meeting would be nice though. SouthParkFan2006 ( talk) 11:48, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply
That's actually because of this redirect. We control the Internet. Append -wikipedia to your search and most of the Among Us stuff disappears. J947 edits 22:06, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply
I tried it and yes, most stuff that appears is still about Among Us. SouthParkFan2006 ( talk) 07:17, 23 November 2023 (UTC) reply
This may depend on your search history, too. My first page in the search has two pages about Among Us, but two of the first three are definitions, one from Reporter's Committee for the Freedom of the Press and one from Collins Dictionary. My first search page also has several news stories about emergency meetings called for various reasons. Significa liberdade (she/her) ( talk) 15:06, 23 November 2023 (UTC) reply
Interesting. I use Ecosia and get nothing at all about Among Us until page two. Most results are news stories and articles. Even Andrew Tate's podcast shows up before Among Us stuff. I'm not sure if Ecosia uses user data to alter its results, but I know I have certainly consumed more Among Us content than Andrew Tate content. – CopperyMarrow15 ( talk | edits) Feel free to ping me! 18:41, 23 November 2023 (UTC) reply
Most online search engines skew results to the user nowadays because of user tracking and AI - any one of us could search this on the same search engine and get different results, and get different results from those if we tried again on a different day. Bing is so bad for this now that if I search anything that looks like a phone number, it always gives me the listing for my local tax office. You will get more reliable results if you use your browser's private or incognito mode, but even that isn't perfect. That's what I did (on Google in Firefox, fwiw) and got zero results for Among Us, just various results on how to hold a meeting in an emergency situation (emergency board meetings, meetings about emergency plans, emergency safety briefings, etc), all of which are covered by extraordinary general meeting. Ivanvector ( Talk/ Edits) 13:33, 29 November 2023 (UTC) reply
  • Retarget to Extraordinary general meeting per above and definitely add hatnote for Among Us, which mentions the gameplay element several times and gives details. We do indeed control the front page of most search engines. – CopperyMarrow15 ( talk | edits) Feel free to ping me! 23:14, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply
  • Retarget to Extraordinary general meeting with a hatnote per J947 and CopperyMarrow15. Significa liberdade (she/her) ( talk) 15:03, 23 November 2023 (UTC) reply

This is seemingly an advertising slogan that was used (albeit scantly) in 1976; however, nothing about it is at the article and it's unlikely that there will be anything that could be integrated about it into the article. Tartar Torte 22:42, 21 November 2023 (UTC) reply

  • Keep. That's right, this was one of the slogans used in a series of ads used by Minolta for years in the 1970s. It was highly influential in establishing Minolta's image as a serious manufacturer of equipment and tools designed for creative photography. We could quite well discuss it in further details in the article.
One reason for the creation of the redirect was that redirects define the incoming "interface" into an article and good articles should have redirects catching all terms and phrases (and reasonable variants) related to a topic, so that people entering those alternative terms or phrases into the search engine get redirected to the related contents. In the case of longer phrases such as this one, this allows to create links specifically linking to the exact phrase rather than only to the generic article if the user wants to. Even if this slogan is not specifically discussed in the article (yet), the existence of the redirect improves reverse lookup capabilities, thereby helping to build the web and infra-structure around a topic. Also, redirects define semantic relations (in this case the redirect carries the attribute "slogan related to topic" through the use of the "R from slogan" Rcat), information which gets automatically "harvested" by third-parties. Thereby it helps to improve the results of other search engines and to sharpen the results of spell checkers and translation tools, possibly even generative tools - for example, knowing the exact wording of this particular slogan (as defined per this redirect), a tool can recognize and reproduce the exact wording and spelling elsewhere rather than not detecting slight spelling variants as historically incorrect or only being able to paraphrase it instead of using the exact wording. -- Matthiaspaul ( talk) 00:14, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply
  • The purpose of redirects is to help readers of Wikipedia, not to help Google and OpenAI financially exploit our labor. There's a point to redirects from slogans when they're discussed in their target (sometimes), and to help you find their target if you remember the slogan but not the target's name; but on the one hand, it's not discussed, and on the other, you can't get to this redirect without already knowing the target's name. Delete. — Cryptic 07:21, 22 November 2023 (UTC) reply
