I see that you're removing the flags from the MLB rosters as per the Manual of Style. Because of that, I made a new template, template:MLBplayer, similar to template:player that was being used before. I think that will make it quite a bit easier to standardize everything and it makes it look a bit neater when you go to edit it. -- Rabbethan 07:33, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

A couple of quick questions about the changes you made to Bill Moore (disambiguation). First, baseball-reference shows three different Bill Moore's in baseball [1], but instead of adding the third, you replaced one with a different one. Was there a reason for that?
Also, you changed the names of the (non-existant) articles. Could you explain why you did that? I want to make sure I'm naming articles correctly. I had thought that we were using the conventions here, which is how the articles were listed on the disambig page.

- I've noticed that the naming conventions have changed on its own since. That article hasn't been updated in a while. When I started changing pages, pages like the two Chris Young's only had their position. It didn't say something like 'Chris Young (baseball pitcher)' or 'Chris Young (baseball outfielder)'. Hey man, can you do me a favor when you're editing roster templates and always put the names of the players involved in the transaction in the edit summaries like I do? Or at least the last names, like "Smith, Jackson, Thomas signed" or something like that. I ask because sometimes I go to the history page to try and find a transaction, or maybe look back for a guy's number if he's been on a team previously, and it's easier to find it if I can press CTRL+F and type the guy's name. I wanted to let you know that I intentionally left this article uncreated because the guy did not report to camp as an undrafted rookie and there's no indication he'll ever return. Like Marion Dukes with Miami (which I created but probably should not have) these guys are not notable enough and it doesn't look like they ever will be. Just letting you know my position on that for future instances, and I wanted to let you know that I'll probably look to get such articles deleted if they fail to report in 2008. I am only making changes that come straight from the web and FROM WIKIPEDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop changing obvious stuff.
- Some of the stuff that you edit is wrong.
- Let me just give some examples: You made an edit to Manny Ramírez which said that he was born in the Bronx when he was actually born in the Dominican Republic, which I reverted as vandalism. In the case of Josh Towers, he has not finalized his contract and the only things that we put in the roster templates are official. Not finalizing his contract is not official. In the case of adding numbers, you kept saying that Guillermo Mota was going to be #53, turns out he took #58. Other examples include saying that Geoff Geary was going to take #56 when he took #29 and José Castillo taking number #15 when he took #13. Some other edits that you do, like to the Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, and Tampa Bay Rays roster templates, is to delete the space between players who go by their initials, for example J. R. Towles. You would constantly change J. R. Towles into J.R. Towles and we would constantly change it back yet you insisted on reverting our edits back. In the case of infoboxes, you kept adding multiple positions so you would make the link invalid, which is why we added another part to the infobox so you can put in multiple positions without having any problems. Yet after we did this, you still added multiple positions to 'position' after you already learned that we added the 'positionplain' section to the infobox. I also just reverted your edit that you made to Template:Kansas City Royals roster in which you put Billy Butler as a designated hitter yet you should of have already learned that we strictly follow MLB.com when it comes to players positions. This is why when you put Ryan Braun in the list of outfielders in Template:Milwaukee Brewers roster, it was reverted. Other stuff that you do was to constantly change the colors in the roster templates even after we told you not to do it. For Josh Towers, it said a long time ago ON HIS WIKIPEDIA SITE, that he is with the Rockies. Why would that be there if its not official? I have noticed others do bad stuff too, such as someone several months ago making Doug Mientkiewicz on the Giants, which I reverted. Hey man, would you like to help me with a little project of mine leading up to free agency? We need to change all the player infoboxes of the upcoming unrestricted free agents. Basically, we have to change the team field to "Free Agent", the number field to "--", end the tenures in their list of past teams, and update the first sentence of their article to say they are a free agent.
I'd like to get these done before February 29 - the start of free agency. So what we need to do is go through the roster templates and do this for all the unrestricted free agents only. We can leave the RFAs and ERFAs alone because their teams do have some say in whether they go elsewhere, so Pats and I are gonna leave them on the templates. Hey Street, I wanted to talk to you about something we've both been doing but I think we ought not do. We've both been putting the asterisk in a guy's infobox when he signed with a new team: (2008-present)*. I think we should just leave the asterisks off at this point and leave the note about offseason/practice squad member only off as well. (Unless it was there for a previous stint with another team.) My thinking is, if we add them to EVERYONE that's signed this offseason, we'll have to manually remove them all once the season begins if they make the teams. But if we leave them off now, we can add them later if and when they get cut before the season. You know what I'm saying? Hi. It seems we have a disagreement over how Casey's nickname was used. Your contention appears to be that "The Mayor" originated in Cincy, which is true. However, the nickname was picked up again when he was signed by the Tigers (read the article talk page), and his contribution to the team, which went to the World Series, helped it catch on with Detroit fans. I'm not sure if it was used in Pittsburgh, but I know he wasn't in Pittsburgh long enough for it to catch on. As of now, the article is not written to reflect that the nickname ORIGINATED in Cincinnati. If that's your intention, please rewrite it and make it so, and I can always figure out a way to work it into the part of the article that describes his play with Detroit. I think we can figure something out and make everyone happy. Last thing we need is an edit war. I think we're better off assuming good intentions. What do you think? Hey man, I know you follow MLB transactions around here as much as anyone, so I wanted to get your input on something. I do rosters for the MLB 2K games on the Xbox 360. I think a do a pretty good job and it's fairly easy staying on top of MLB transactions. Traditionally, I use ESPN.com, MLB.com, CBS Sportsline, and KFFL for transactions. Got any other good ones you know of?
Also, and more importantly, this year's game is going to have A, AA and AAA teams. This is going to be a bitch to correct, but I'm going to work on it. Do you know any place that is reliable for minor league transactions? It's going to be near-impossible to keep accurate if I can't find a good site for that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - milb.com transactions are generally reliable. They don't have all but they usually will. It is easy to keep track of players on the 40-man roster but yes, the minor leaguers are a real bitch. What I do is I mark them all down and then from time to time I check on them to make sure the milb.com transactions didn't miss any. This site also has a ton of transactions: [2]. - You have to go to each seperate league like International League and Pacific Coast League. To get Pacific Coast League transactions, go to the Sacramento River Cats page (or any other Pacific Coast League team page that has a sidebar) and click 'League Transactions'. That will bring up a list of Pacific Coast League transactions. They don't record transactions during the offseason though. -- Street20 ( talk) 06:40, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, reference your revert of my edits on the David Pauley page, I was confused about what (if any) was the policy about placing team/years served in the info box based on being on the DL or on the 40 man roster inn the minors, so I asked the question at the Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Baseball#Infoboxes. The response I received was "The current standard is to only list when he made an appearance for the team during the season, not the minors or DL". This seems to make sense to me as it would be difficult to go back and historically determine when players were / were not on the 40 man roster and this way would make all pages consistent. Cheers. Hey Street20, somewhere in Byung-Hyun Kim's bio article the New York media's unfair reporting on him has to be addressed some way. Didn't you say that "spring training game recaps should not be included unless it has some significant importance with the player"? I used to think that some negative opinion on Kim around the New York area is due to his history with the Yankees. After I watched David Cone, Paul O'Neill, and Michael Kay completely fabricated false stories on Kim's past statistics (or, if not intentionally fabricated, then they did not check Kim's 2002-03 stats) on the air during this game, I realized that the New York media is also feeding completely false information on Kim to their audience to further portray him negatively. This is a serious media-ethics issue, not a spring training recap. Fighting against the biased media should be a 24/7 job and just because they said false stories during the spring training doesn't give them a break. And because of all the hype stirred by Billy Crystal, more audiences heard their false comments on Kim during this game than other low-key ST games. A baseball reporter covering one of the teams Kim played for told me that Kim is a fascinating guy who is often not accurately portrayed by the media. I do not know that they are obviously wrong. What I know is that mlb.com is the most reliable source for this. And it clearly states it. According to Wikipedia:Verifiability, "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. "Verifiable" in this context means that readers should be able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source." You won't find a source saying that he was not claimed off of outright waivers; the most you would find is a source that says that he was claimed off of waivers, without identifying whether it was outright waivers -- a subset of waivers. Hello. The instructions for using Template:Infobox MLB player say that we should select statistics based on "what the player is most well-known for." I would venture to say that Brian Roberts, a player who averages 1 home run every 62.5 at bats, is not too well-known for his home run hitting ability. Looking at his biography, he has been in the AL season top 10 in batting average (already there), OBP, OPS, doubles, triples, walks, stolen bases (already there), and a bunch of other stats that don't really say very much, like at-bats and caught stealing. Out of the first list of statistics I mentioned, I felt that for a career leadoff hitter, it's probably OBP that matters the most. That said, is there any particular reason you would insist on having HR and RBI in the template for this player? ugen64 ( talk) 23:30, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I just caught an edit of yours that came floating across my watchlist .... I see that you reverted an edit to this article, and I am fully cool with that. I had to double check myself to see that Mike Piazza still isn't signed.
But, I wouldn't necessarily have labeled the edit you reverted as "vandalism". I could have been, but given that Piazza did wear #31, it could also have been a well intentioned error. I'm not here to lecturer you or anything, but I know some people see their edit labeled as "vandalism", when that wasn't their intention, and the next thing you know, there's a lot of harsh language being thrown around. If I could suggest from my own missteps in the past: label it a "good faith" edit when you revert it, and any doubt may exist. Its just my 2 cents, and nothing more. There seems to be NO Rhyme or Reason to your editing and/or undos. First, you edit that Nelson Cruz is DFA (off team) when in fact he has NOT been put on DFA officially by the team (yes...talking about it but NOT official). I asked you a question about this earliar not wanting to undo the edit if it was official.....NOT. Second, I put Adam Melhuse on the 40 man roster since the Manager Ron Washington stated he's his backup catcher and you undo my edit. Is it official? NO...No transaction has been listed. Is Nelson Cruz officially off team? NO...No transaction has been listed. I quess if you have the OFFICIAL UNDO/EDIT BUTTON you can make up your own rules. What am I to think!?!? Street, I really think that players that have not played in a game yet for a team shouldn't have that distinction in the infobox (in the "Teams" section). I say this because players past teams are only listed if they play in a game for them. Say Vance Wilson never plays in a game this year. If that's the case, then someone has to go back and remove the "2008-present" line. The way it's being done now is inconsistent with itself. Please don't use the "that's how we do it" reason. How is anybody supposed to know "how it's done" if it isn't documented anywhere? The {{ Infobox MLB player}} template says nothing about what is supposed to be in the "Teams" section.
Like I've said before (I think); I don't want the baseball articles to become what the football player articles have been. That is, a highly-edited-by-one-or-two-users debacle where even the most minor "inconsistency" with the undocumented "standard" is reverted and many times labeled as vandalism. It's not the worst thing in the world if 2 articles are not consistent stylistically.
At the very least, the infobox's documentation should list the "rules" that state the current year should only be added to players that are on the active roster, DL or restricted list. — X96lee15 ( talk) 02:30, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- We just keep the present part because most of the time people who are on the DL or restricted list or suspended list will return. - Street, I'm not saying that Cruceta won't play this year; in fact, he probably will. Nobody knows, so that's crystal balling in either direction. I'm saying that since he hasn't yet played a game in the Majors this year is why he shouldn't have the "2008-present" designation. However, I can understand and see your point of view. - He's not on the Active/25-man roster though. When Cruceta comes back to the US, he may not even be on the Active Roster, he could be sent to the minors. Current 40-man players in the minors don't have the "2008" indicator. That's where I'm coming from. Personally, I just think it's crazy to not count a DL guy or something as not being on the team in his infobox. Take Tanyon Sturtze and the Braves last season. I know for a fact Sturtze was freaking at the games, wearing his uniform and doing everything BUT pitching. - You're right, not every one because of the rehab starts. But he was certainly at most, as I was there for every home series and saw him a lot. After looking at the Colter Bean article, when a player is playing for the Triple-A Mexico League, is he still under contract with his MLB team and is just being loaned to that league or was he a free agent and signed a contract with the Triple-A Mexico League? Last night Acosta got his first major-league at bat, he batted left-handed. I cannot find a source, every site says he bats right-handed, which I know is not true. Why did you revert my edit of the Phillies template? If you look, the link is not sourced to properly link to the correct article. That's why it was changed. If the link is named "Joe Bisenius," and the article is titled "Joseph Bisenius," the template box will not highlight properly. Baseball has a history unlike any other sport. It has been played in countless countries throughout the decades, and it will undoubtedly continue play for many more. On this eve, some the finest players the sport has to offer will take the field at the Yankee Stadium. Four popes spoke there, Pelé scored goals there, " The Greatest [football] Game Ever Played" was battled out there, John Philip Sousa lead a band there, George Costanza worked there; but what do all these events have in common? They fail to reach the level of greatness that the baseball that was played there did. In 1923, a man named Babe Ruth decided to build a new house, and over the years, that house was a home to some of the greatest baseball ever played. If I were to list out all of these great moments, it would be longer than the bill for the New Yankee Stadium. So I'll sum it up by saying that we can remember these great moments by adding them to this place we've gathered at for future generations to read about, to learn about, to dream about; but more importantly we can watch tonight and we can remember how baseball is unlike anything else that we will encounter in our lives. — Black ngold29 |

Hi! My name is Annie Lin - I'm the Campus Team Coordinator at the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm contacting you because you're listed as a resident of San Francisco, and we're currently looking for a friendly Wikipedian to teach students in a University of San Francisco class how to use/edit Wikipedia. This is a role titled the "Wikipedia Campus Ambassador," and you'll basically be doing in-class presentations about Wikipedia, running Wikipedia labs/workshops, and in general providing face-to-face Wikipedia help for the professor and the students in the class. The time commitment is about 3-5 hours a week (with variations throughout the semester), and for this particular University of San Francisco class, most of the workload will be between March and May.
