Sunshine

I'm thinking that whilst we are in the mood, then we should work on the Sunnyboys (album) (given it charted & featured on the 100 Best Australian Albums) and " Alone with You (Sunnyboys song)", just to round it out. What do you think? Dan arndt ( talk) 04:10, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

I'm not going to start Alone with You (Sunnyboys song), I'll leave that to one of you two.
I'm still embarrassed that I got a DYK co-writing credit for From St Kilda to Kings Cross, even though basically I just started it as yet another one of my signature tiny but well-referenced micro-subs™ and then added a picture of the palm trees on St Kilda Esplanade.

Massive expansion of garage rock underway--Australian section soon to come

I have been working on a big expansion of the Garage Rock article--I have already added a lot information about the various regional scenes in the United States (although there is more on certain regions to come). I am also close to adding sections about other countries' contributions. I will have a big section about Australian garage & beat and it will be the largest of all sections outside of the U.S.--it will be the grand finale of the international section! I based a lot of that section of Mark's and McIntyre's great book I have at home, Wild About You. You can check out the article as it currently stands (to view the new regional additions) and then go to my Sandbox #1 on my user page to view the upcoming Australian garage section. I think you will really like what you see! Garagepunk66 ( talk) 00:13, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

P.S.: Thanks for all of your help on the Australian rock article a couple of years ago. Garagepunk66 ( talk) 01:52, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Take It Easy on Me

Hi, I wonder whether the LRB article should report a little more on the internal tensions over this song. This is what Chuck Miller wrote:

"Nelson also recorded the lead vocals on Time Exposure's second single, Take It Easy On Me, although the version released featured Glenn Shorrock on lead vocals, with Nelson on the middle bridge. "The straw that broke the camel's back was when George Martin picked my vocal for Take It Easy On Me," said Nelson. "Capitol chose that as the second single. Glenn, before letting the masters go, said 'Wait a second, if Wayne's going to sing the first two singles on the album, what am I doing here?' That's how Take It Easy On Me ended up with a split vocal. Glenn sings the verse and I sing the middle eight."

I sense this had quite an effect on the band's dynamic. BTW, you are doing a great job. Regards, WWGB ( talk) 11:03, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Return from retirement

Hi Shaidar cuebiyar , how are you? I hope all is well. About three months ago I did my last revision of the Brisbane punk rock page. Content that I said all that I could possibly say on the subject I then retired from wiki. After a while I became a little dissatisfied with this articles' "start class" rating. My conclusion was that I would like to return from retirement and am willing to improve the article for one last shot, if, perhaps you might consider helping me on the article's improvement. I would be very appreciative of your input as I highly respect your opinion. Regards, Dr.warhol ( talk) 01:08, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for response and your work already. I guess I would be aiming for somewhere preferably like B class or at least C class minimum. The Kid Gallahad was my spelling error. I'm on board with your direction, however, what should I do to remove the 'Retired' banner so that I can contribute again?

Dr.warhol ( talk) 23:51, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

You have put an enormous effort into the article and I am sincerely grateful.
Can I source your opinion on an issue though. When I originally posted the Brisbane punk rock article I was warned by Wiki that I should keep the article neutral and free from any perceived political bias or viewpoint. My current position firmly upholds this politically neutral standpoint and I concede that the request was right. It was my understanding that the article was under serious threat of deletion because I related a stance similar to the one presently projected. I had therefore limited the political elements and decided to focus on the various sub genres of the local bands and the movement changes on the local scene, which I still consider very important to the development of Brisbane punk.
However, my concern is that I do not wish to cause another issue about neutrality and the introduction and text box, in my opinion, does have a strong political slant. The text box in particular could possibly be construed as having a political bias but I also believe that the John Cockington's remark is inaccurate. My view is that British punk originally began well before Margret Thatcher came to power and her Tory Party succeeded in winning government, due in part, because of the emergence of punk into mainstream British popular culture. This is the reverse of Brisbane's situation.
As I do value your opinion. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Dr.warhol ( talk) 05:49, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

I meant the beginning of "The Pioneers" chapter not the introduction. Sorry.

Dr.warhol ( talk) 06:01, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

Sorry I had to replace the John Cockington quote. His opinion, to me, does not really hold up. I believe that punk would have happened in Brisbane, but it would have been substantially different if Joh Bjelke Peterson's government wasn't in charge. Also the word "dictatorship" would have been misleading to a degree.

All the best with your time off. Dr.warhol ( talk) 11:25, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

venue list

I've tried to source references for the venue list. Unfortunately the best I can do is get some unreliable sources or unable to find anything at all. There are a few places that can be verified but I feel that as a whole it is unsatisfactory. Maybe delete the venue list as it isn't that important.

I have found a couple of mentions about Zits on blogs, which do suggest the club was infamous but nothing can be found on the venue in accepted sources. What do you recommend here? Dr.warhol ( talk) 08:39, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

I've managed to narrow down venue list but I fear to delist bands may cause unwelcolme animosity between bands and possibly resentment. I've also deleted the "Demographics" chapter as I felt that the evidence was not strong enough and I didn't like it either.

Dr.warhol ( talk) 06:55, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

I'm happy to have a B-class standard for the article. There is not a lot on the passing style changes in Brisbane but there is one essay on the scene during the late 80s by Matt Kennedy on the Eternal Soundcheck site. It is a interesting and honest account but just a viewpoint of that generation and somewhat locked out from what band scene history and styles preceded before it.

Is there anymore I can do? Dr.warhol ( talk) 00:30, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

The last phase doesn't have any real info to establish the changes in Brisbane which occurred during the period. Very problematic. I will go along with what you suggest here. Have I referenced the article and removed the peacock statements sufficiently?
Fellow Wiki user Guycalledryan helped me to establish the article originally, giving me advice. He outlined that articles on Wiki should not contain articles in breach of WP:NPOV. After reviewing the numerous political statements now in this article it makes me uneasy and I am thinking I would like to ask Guycalledryan for his opinion on this given his earlier advice, as a matter of caution.

Sorry. I was putting the live shot into the infobox at almost the same time you were putting it at the bottom. CaesarsPalaceDude ( talk) 07:48, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
Basically, I agree with everything you are saying. Don't look so shocked! I have written the lead, and about 15% of the Loughnan article already. He's done a lot in 56 years as a professional musician. CaesarsPalaceDude ( talk) 07:58, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
I have rearranged all of the boxes in the upper portion of the body of the article. I think it is better in terms of aligning each box with the related text, except for Jimmy. It also looks better, in my opinion. I don't see this as final in any sense. I suggest that if you don't agree with something, we need to discuss it. A good thing about the current version is that the artists who deserve to be at the top are at the top: Jimmy & Chris. The only reason I put Chris down the bottom was that I was having trouble fitting the image in. Mostly, the changes to the captions read well. FYI, for the alt text in the Infobox, the band are next to a swimming pool, except for Hamish who is actually in the pool! CaesarsPalaceDude ( talk) 06:52, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
I have created an Ayers Rock gallery at Wikimedia Commons, and placed "Commons category" template in the article. CaesarsPalaceDude ( talk) 01:38, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Living End FL?

Whilst we're waiting on the WM Awards to be looked at, I thought that might try and get The Living End discography up to speed - as a possible FL candidate... Dan arndt ( talk) 03:57, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

Thoughts - should "Rising Sun" be included as a single (radio only release) or should it be included in 'other appearances' also is "Second Solution"/"Prisoner of Society" be included as both an EP and a single- shouldn't it be just included in one table. Dan arndt ( talk) 02:27, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
Changed "Rising Sun", will leave "Second Solution" for now. Checking some of the footnotes has led me to a bit of a blank wall for "Carry me Home", "End of the World" and "'Til the End" as I'm struggling to find anything to confirm they were released as singles even as radio singles. What I have been able to find is that "End of the World" was potentially the first single from Modern ARTillery not the last as the discography indicates. It all looks like a bit of a mess but I will muddle my way through it. If you are able to find anything that helps let me know. Dan arndt ( talk) 09:00, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
What I have been able to find is this, which I think is the best accurate reflection as to what the various single releases were. It looks to me the previous editors may have been overzealous in including within the table all songs that made the hottest 100 as radio only releases. Given that we aren't including the hottest 100 on the list of chart appearances, it doesn't make much sense in including them as single releases (unless we can find evidence to the contrary). Which leads me to the last one being "Tainted Love", will try to see if I can find any evidence to support its retention. Also do you think its worth including footnotes for those singles which were Aust only releases? Dan arndt ( talk) 06:09, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

In respect to Blow Your Loudspeaker it was released well after the other appearances - in fact it could be argued that it is a compilation of some of those other appearances. Actually I was thinking that the Juice EP should actually be in the list of EPs rather than in the list of other appearances. 'Rip It Up" was an original song but "Uncle Harry" appears on Roll On. Dan arndt ( talk) 14:04, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

I agree but the overwhelming evidence is the album went quintuple platinum- apart from all the latest triple j references there is also this Australian article, rage and Top 40. Dan arndt ( talk) 14:31, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
I'd say it was a featured appearance on a JB song rather than a single in its own right. Dan arndt ( talk) 23:40, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
Have been going over the list of music video directors - there are obviously some issues about using mvdbase.com and the link to The Tabloid Magazine is dead. I have managed to track down that the DVD for From Here on In: The Singles (1997–2004) and the band provide comment on each of the filmclips and the directors - just not certain how to cite the source.. Dan arndt ( talk) 02:59, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
Is it worth putting in the chart positions for the CMJ Radio 200 ( Living End #17) or is it considered a non-notable chart? Dan arndt ( talk) 07:33, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
I've taken the pre-emptive step of lodging requests at GOCE & Peer review - given the relatively large backlogs on each (Wolfmother awards is still languishing there). Did you have a tool that can check the validity of the references - without me having to check each. Agree that CMJ isn't a great chart - happy to ignore. Will sit down and watch the DVD to get times of quotes verifying music video directors (maybe take some time as I'm heading off to Bali & the the GF) but will see what I can do. In saying that it's looking good. Dan arndt ( talk) 01:56, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Sorry to take so long to respond to your messages, however there are reasons below. Firstly, well done with your walk on the mild side, which I hope left you suitably recharged.

On 11 November, I was diagnosed with leukemia, and was admitted to hospital (on Friday the 13th! ha, ha) where I was given the first course of chemotherapy. I am currently at home while receiving treatment as an outpatient. This was a set back for my ambitions re the Col Loughnan bio, although I did manage to add some photos to Sebastian Hardie, while in hospital.

In this situation, I think it is preferable for you to take the lead with GAN; a path you've been down several times before. If you leave a message at my Talk page, I will try to reply within a short time, if I am able. CaesarsPalaceDude ( talk) 06:05, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

Garage rock article just went GA!

You will be happy to know that the Garage rock article just went GA! It was included on the DYK for Dec. 14. You'll really love the Australian garage section--now Australia and New Zealand can finally get the credit they deserve for their important role in the history of garage rock. While I was doing the expansion on the article, that may have been the section I worked on the hardest. I wanted to make it extra-good--to be something that people in your country would be proud of! Error at the Rock

As you know, I contacted almost every living former member of Ayers Rock trying to get photos of the band. Andy Cowan emailed me recently, saying that the sentence "In 1983, Cowan joined a short-lived revival of Blackfeather with Neale Johns" is completely wrong, and he never played with Blackfeather. I realise that this puts me, in particular, in a tricky situation. Do you know of another source that we could check to verify whether Cowan or McFarlane is correct?

Both Cowan and McFarlane are agreeing that he was a member of Kevin Borich Express, and Cowan has had a long solo career including 8 solo albums, with all music.com listing 6 different albums. Perhaps we could focus on these aspects instead. As usual, I am keen to hear your opinion. CaesarsPalaceDude ( talk) 03:11, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

Luke Girgis

Hi,

I built this page around the individual, rather than the individuals music project. Consolodating or redirecting the article into the music project is inappropriate as I would argue the person is now more notable for their position as director of shock records and for their position as a manager in Australian Music than for their artist project (last release 2010??]. If you would like to take this to the talk page to have a moderator assess the situation I would be happy to go this route, but scrapping the article into a redirect without discussion is inappropriate, and consolidating the information into the artist project is misleading since this article is about the individual, rather than the musical artist.

Further to the above, I realised that you transcluded the data for the Talent Manager into the artist project, this is backwards as 'if' you were to merge the pages (which I feel is a mistake since users have entirely different reasons to seek out information on either) it would make more sense to incorporate the artist project into the individual biography as a subsection. E.g. if someone is googling Luke Girgis (as the manager of Little Sea or the director of Shock Records, they are not looking for information on Coptic Soldier the artist project, and the two things are entirely separate. My suggestion would be a tag at the top of the page offering a ' for the individuals musical project please see Coptic Soldier'.

ex. the discussion of /info/en/?search=Dallas_Green_(musician) - /info/en/?search=City_and_Colour (which is infact more of a grey area as this is about consolidation of an individual with multiple solo or group music acts, and regardless they would be rolled into the individual instead of the artist project)

Hello! We "met" briefly on the talkpage of Natalie Gauci in 2013. I recently re-read the article, and it seems quite a bit of unsourced non-WP stuff have crept in (drug-use, spiritual journey etc). I removed some, but there is more (afaict mostly in the 2009–present section). If you are still interested, would you take a look? I don´t want to chop stuff to harshly, it´s not badly written. I agree the tribesman doesn't need a separate heading - barely enough time to drum a decent beat. According to APRA, he was one of the songwriters for "Axegrinder" but this isn't reflected in the article which gives Faulkner the sole credit for the song. One of our earlier works... According to what I've found Ampology charted at #39 in New Zealand but didn't chart in Australia. However HGD shows it as charting at #39 in Australia - what do you think, happy for me to change? Dan arndt ( talk) 23:42, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Do you have any chart positions for Armchair Gurus, I can't believe that it certified gold without charting... Dan arndt ( talk) 03:56, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
    • l'm thinking that we combine the listing for Electric Soup / Gorilla Biscuit, as well as Electric Chair / Armchair Gurus, as they were first released as a double CD. This I know as I can remember my older brother buying ES/GB, which is why the chart listing & certification are the same. Dan arndt ( talk) 06:59, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
      • Is the any particular order that we should put the different national charts in? Dan arndt ( talk) 05:38, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

A table of Music Videos is a nice to have but if we can't find all the directors it may be more of a hindrance at FL. I'll see if I can't track down a copy of Tunnel Vision to see if that has all the details. Dan arndt ( talk) 01:18, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Did we do this somewhere before and then deleted it based on the FL review? Dan arndt ( talk) 06:57, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
    • I wouldn't trust my memory either. Dan arndt ( talk) 07:27, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
      • John Whitteron (check [1] [2] [3] [4])
        • I'm also thinking that this table might be a lost cause. Am really struggling to find any of the directors of their videos & its a long list of videos. Am thinking we go back and do a re-write of the lead. Dan arndt ( talk) 03:07, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Just going through the lead & am a little concerned that The Harbour Agency reference might be construed as being a primary source. So far the best alternative is this from Billboard magazine, which states Stoneage Romeos was the #1 album on the CMJ charts for four weeks however this is an ad run by A&M Records. What do you think? Dan arndt ( talk) 03:07, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Then there is also this which clearly identifies it was #1 in 1984. 03:24, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
    • Is there any reason why the lead only mentions the success of the albums in the US charts but fails to mention the band's success in Australia & New Zealand? Also no mention is made of subsequent albums or the chart success of "What's My Scene". Would adding that info make the lead too large and cumbersome? What's your thoughts SD?

My best guess, based on the lack of references, is that the concert was filmed but the show is either in post-production or on-hold. Once we've done the Discography - we should go back to the original parent article and bring it up to date with recent events. Dan arndt ( talk) 03:22, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

  • The recording of the concert is the EP Gravy Train hence the working title of the documentary. Dan arndt ( talk) 11:17, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Stoneage Romeos charted at #209 on US Charts!! on Billboard Dan arndt ( talk) 00:20, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
As far as I can track down Kimble Rendall was the director for the mockumentary Must Travel on Wheels, which included the film clip for "Crackin' Up" - so potentially that make Rendall the director for the clip. All I can say is that I'm really struggling to find any references to the Guru's music videos. I think we should just concentrate on what we have in the discography and get that right for listing as a FLC. Dan arndt ( talk) 01:51, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Do we want to include details of the various change in labels (ie being dropped by Elektra in the US and then being picked up by RCA). Also there are too many in 2005s in the lead. Dan arndt ( talk) 04:22, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
    • I'm more comfortable with four consecutive weeks than seven weeks - it fits what I've been able to pull from CMJ Monthly. Dan arndt ( talk) 05:47, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
      • How confident are you with the album accreditations? The reference doesn't seem to justify them. Dan arndt ( talk) 14:21, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
        • Doing a bit of research on the US College charts ( CMJ), in order to replace the Harbour reference I did find this article, which states "it [Stoneage Romeos] also became an underground hit in America (climbing to #1 on the College Charts)." and "It [Mars Needs Guitars] again topped the College Chart in the States (as did their next two efforts)." Do you think that this is a more reliable reference than Harbour? Note it also states that "Bittersweet" topped the US College Radio Track charts. The other alternative is using the actual CMJ New Music Report but I've only been able to confirm that Stoneage Romeos and Magnum Cum Louder reached #1 (refer [5] & [6]). Although I did find that Crank reached #50 - so I'll add that. (refer [7]). Dan arndt ( talk) 08:54, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
          • BTW I'm happy that there is sufficient evidence that Stoneage Romeos went Gold. Dan arndt ( talk) 08:59, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
            • Could use TheMusic ref. I've found this reference for Mars Needs Guitars - gold record status. Dan arndt ( talk) 10:57, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Not a big fan of EOY charts in FL - smacks of desperation to include number of charts. On another note guess who I saw in concert last nite - was 'Bittersweet'... Dan arndt ( talk) 01:12, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Apparently there was a time restriction, so no Ratcat. Sunnyboys still got it. And HG had their old drummer back, Mark Kingsmill was on the skins! Was a great night out. Dan arndt ( talk) 02:45, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
    • I think that Lieth had injured himself, was on crutches at combine finale & Kingsmill came back to fill in. Dan arndt ( talk) 04:53, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

Well done Sherlock, "Use-By-Date" certainly appeared on the special bonus disc of Purity of Essence, however it was released as the 'official' single (albeit a re-mix) from Gold Watch so I would leave it as listed. Dan arndt ( talk) 06:40, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Im thinkin' that we go straight to FLC, we can lodge a request with GOCE but that take too long to get around to it. Dan arndt ( talk) 05:02, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
    • checkY I've listed it a FLC & lodged a request at GOCE - am interested in seeing who addresses it first. In the meantime will need to do some FLC reviews. Dan arndt ( talk) 05:35, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

My guess is that some naive inexperienced editor when they created the article, simply used Allmusic details, which is the US release date - without checking. The album was released in the begining of March, possibly 2 March but can't confirm that (yet). See where your going with the referencing of release dates - I always thought that if the individual article referenced the release date, that was good enough. Lisa Edwards discography section release dates

Hi, I see you've added the release month/approximate release month for some of the singles on the Discography section of the the Lisa Edwards page; however, some of these are wrong. "(I Can Just) Lose Myself In You" was released (or at least is listed as being 'available from') 7th June 1993 in the ARIA Report for Week Ending 6th June 1993. "Cry" can't have been released in July 1992, as it entered the ARIA top 50 at the end of May 1992 (see http://australian-charts.com/showitem.asp?interpret=Lisa+Edwards&titel=Cry&cat=s). "Until the Day" entered the ARIA top 100 singles chart in late April 1993, so was not released in June. "Thru the Hoop" was also released earlier than August 1993, I am fairly sure - I can look up the correct release dates for these in the ARIA Reports I have, when I get around to it. I think "So Dangerous" was released in October 1992, but I'll need to check. Nqr9 ( talk) 07:31, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Shaidar cuebiyar. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery ( talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Garage rock project

I have been speaking to another editor about the possibility of proposing a Wiki project for garage rock. Since Australia and New Zealand have had some of the most active and vital garage scenes, both in the 1960s and in subsequent eras, it is only natural that your involvement in such a project would be a great asset. Incidentally, you'll notice some new articles on the Black Diamonds, the Moods, and the Bluestars. Would you be interested in joining in on such a project?
