Hi Ser. I just created Category:American social reformers and Category:British social reformers. I then moved the appropriate women out of Category:Social reformers into these subcats, and did minor editing, talkpage updates, Wikidata updates, as needed on those articles. The main cat is still full of people who should be moved into the newly-created subcats or into Category:Indian social reformers, which was previously created by someone else. I was wondering if you felt inclined to do this cat refine work via AWB, but no worries if you are busy with other things. Let me add that if you felt inclined to create Category:Germany social reformers, Category:Australian social reformers, and/or Category:New Zealand social reformers, there are a few articles which would could populate those subcats. -- Rosiestep ( talk) 21:59, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

Why do you keep moving women artists into "women"-specific sub-categories and leaving male (and presumably intersex/non-gender binary) artists in the main category? It just sends the message that a default artist is male and women are a sub-category. I created Category:Native American male artists because of your Category:Native American women artists, but it's a time suck to do this for every category where women are removed and men are left. I am curious what you think about the current system of flagging articles and issues and how it could be optimized. Maybe Machine Learning tools could be implemented? The most prolific editor of Wikipedia is honored as one of "The 25 Most Influential People on the Internet" by Time, covered by The Washington Post, and now interviewed by CBS News, yet we still don't have an article about him on Wikipedia? I read the AFD discussion, and things like DOB aren't required; e.g. see Rosie Stephenson-Goodknight. IMHO, the joke is on Wikipedia that your bio is missing from it. This isn't exactly a replication of the Donna Strickland/ Nobel Prize fiasco, but there must be a logical reason why I'm thinking about that. Anyway, #proudofyou. -- Rosiestep ( talk) 19:42, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
Jumping in here to extend my congratulations as well. I agree that you deserve an article given your press coverage but, given your previous vote to delete, will not be the one to begin it. If you change your mind, though, I am sure there are plenty of us who would be willing to help out. -- Slugger O'Toole ( talk) 02:50, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
Well done for the publicity, but at some point, someone like you should actually correct the assertion that "One man is behind 1/3 of what's on Wikipedia" because that's clearly completely fallacious. This is an encyclopedia, and any kind of claim that you are responsible for 1/3 of the content is [citation needed] territory. I mean, enjoy the five minutes, but to do so without acknowledging that the headline is bullshit is somewhat disingenuous. The Rambling Man ( talk) 21:20, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

I remember something I read, once, in Opera News about the great Tatiana Troyanos. Here was a woman that had every right to complain at the Fates over her lot in life...she was abandoned by her parents to an orphanage, and she battled health issues for many years before dying of cancer at 55. (I remember reading that selfsame article about her and being amazed at what she had overcome.) And yet she remained ever gracious in her career and her professional dealings. The writer of the article, I remember, recalled assisting in a Metropolitan Opera performance of Giulio Cesare in Egitto, in which Kathleen Battle was singing. Battle was then in the throes of some of her worst behavior, and she was really letting people have it over trivial matters. And the writer said that when the curtain fell, he was about ready to tell her off, when he felt a tug at his elbow. It was Troyanos - she took him aside, smiled, and said, "Don't. It doesn't matter." It can be so tempting to get wound up over the least little thing around here. But every time I do, somewhere in the dark recesses of my mind...so deep that I feel her presence rather than hear it...I'm sure Troyanos is reminding me, too: "It doesn't matter." If she, with all that she overcame, could say it, then I damn well can, too –Ser Amantio di Nicolao

A tag has been placed on Jason Gilardi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Congratulations from me, too. I actually didn't see the CBS interview until coming here to look at your Talk page. You recently added categories to a couple of pages on my Watchlist, and I remembered seeing your name before, so I came here out of curiosity. Some Talk pages are good for counting sheep when sleep won't come....especially the firebrands who have lots of controversies going on. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find your story and all the great contributions you have made. Your interview gave a glowing image to us Wikipedia geeks, you are so grounded, with a lovely family, and your singing is heavenly! I'm glad you are getting deserved attention for all your hard work and it was so nice of you to describe the social community here, it is so true. My watchlist is groaning with your edits, most of which are the addition of various categories, which I do not consider worth the overhead. I do not want to see them, and I end up culling the number of articles on my watchlist more aggressively as a result, or just giving up on WP for a time. However, I do not want to filter out edits marked "minor", as some of the worst edits are so marked. I already exclude bot edits--is there a way for you to mark your edits thus? Or is there some other solution to remove category edits from my watchlist? -- Hobbes Goodyear ( talk) 23:08, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi, This may sound horribly ungrateful, and it's really not meant to be - I'm doing some fact-checking for different media. Recently, the CBS News story about you said there are roughly 6 million English Wikipedia articles, and you've edited about a third - so about 2 million different articles. It also says you've done about 3 million edits in all. So that means for most articles, you've only edited each once. It surprised me that your categorising, spelling and grammar checking, and so on, has only changed most articles just once. Do you know where the 'one third' figure came from (is it possible they've taken a figure from some time for all your edits, compared it to the total articles, and just assumed you edit each one only once)? Thank you for all your work, anyway. Peace Makes Plenty ( talk) 21:45, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

Hey! It maybe has been a while since you did these (given the amazing amount of edits you do :) but I've noticed you've added "record producer" categories to a lot of musicians who are not record producers. "Record Producer" is a job title with specific tasks and I think it may be being confused with those who document their music work via recording - ie, a recording artist. If this helps, the Record Producer page defines a producer's tasks as:
If an artist only works with their own group, only writes their own songs, is credited mainly as a musician (or even only as an electronic musician), then the most appropriate place is their instrument/composer/band categories. There are sufficient electronic musician categories for those who do not produce. Thanks! Actaudio ( talk) 05:47, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Why are you creating so many talk pages "I'm part of project xxx" - this is ideal work to be run by a bot, so that recent changes and watchlists are not flooded - such as you are doing now. — xaosflux Talk 03:53, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi, do you never get fed up of going round in circles lighting up people's watchlists? Eg: your current run doing things like this is going to lead to you doing another run recategorising them as, say, Category:19th-century English philanthropists. Then Category:19th-century English educational philanthropists, Category:19th-century English religious philanthropists etc. You seem to be making work for yourself and pissing me off, again. Practically no-one outside Wikipedia cares about categories anyway, and they're of very limited use even to those of us inside it. - Sitush ( talk) 04:56, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I've recently been going through articles within Category:Sportspeople from Stockton-on-Tees and have seen a few discrepancies which have arisen from an AWB run you performed in 2015. This added Category:Sportspeople from Yorkshire to those articles (see e.g. this edit). The problem is (AIUI) that Stockton-on-Tees itself lies within County Durham, as does most of the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees, but there are parts of the borough that have historically lain over the border as part of the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire ( Thornaby-on-Tees, Yarm and Ingleby Barwick). For this reason, Category:People from the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees is a child of both Category:People from County Durham and Category:People from North Yorkshire. I'm guessing your AWB run looked for all cats below Category:People from Yorkshire. This is just a heads up, on the off-chance that you work on anything similar in future. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 12:27, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
Why is American English and Commonwealth English on the same subdomain (en.wikipedia.com)? You can see I had a run in with that here https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Talk:Concorde&diff=prev&oldid=211349247#Tyre_versus_tire.
I really feel like there should be a gb.wikipedia.com and us.wikipedia.com per /info/en/?search=ISO_3166-1_alpha-2.
war.wikipedia.org and ceb.wikipedia.org do not conform to /info/en/?search=List_of_ISO_639-1_codes. I guess my question is what demands a subdomain? And why not separate US and GB? Geolocation is pretty straight forward these days. Donkdonk ( talk) 08:35, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
Mobile browsers redirect /info/en/?search=Pants to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trousers (again Commonwealth English...) as expected. Why on Earth is there not a redirect for desktop browsers from the en.m.wikipedia.org subdomain to en.wikipedia.org?
These are technical questions. If you don't know, can you direct me to the correct place to ask?
Thanks, Donkdonk ( talk) 08:35, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Steven,
I am an aspiring Wikipedia writer and have an article that has been previously rejected, awaiting review.
I am seeking your help because the past two reviewers I worked with have left Wikipedia.
My article has been ready for review since January 15. I know the current wait is quoted as seven weeks. I'm two days short of six weeks.
I'm really excited to start documenting the history and artists in the New Age music genre. This is an under-covered music genre that I find interesting... as a music lover yourself, I'm sure you might understand how I am fascinated on the evolution of this genre.
I've started with Jeff Oster because his unconventional crossover use of brass. Here's the page I've submitted: https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Draft:Jeff_Oster
While I'm certain you are probably too busy to review the article and mentor me yourself (though if I'm wrong, I've deeply appreciate your help!), I'm wondering if you can point me directly to someone who might be able to help.
Thank you for your consideration,

Hello Ser Amantio. I have been looking at the article Broad Rock Manor, Virginia, which you started some years ago. I believe Broad Rock may actually be a neighborhood in the city of Richmond, rather than an unincorporated community in Richmond County. The coordinates listed in the article suggest the same. However, I am not sure whether "Broad Rock Manor" is the correct name for the neighborhood. The List of neighborhoods in Richmond, Virginia lists "Broad Rock", and Broad Rock, Virginia redirects to this list. A map of community associations in Richmond also shows the "Clopton/Broad Rock Civic Association".
So, I am not sure if "Broad Rock Manor" is another name for the "Broad Rock" neighborhood in Richmond city, or is a different neighborhood in Richmond city, or is actually an unincorporated community in Richmond County. I'm wondering if you can shed more light on this?-- Mojo Hand ( talk) 17:22, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi. I saw that you added Category:Year of birth missing (living people) to this BLP article. According to the Infobox person template instruction:
About adding only the year, WP:DOB states: "list the year, provided that there is a reliable source for it."
But there is no advisory in the category page itself about the need to verify DOBs with reliable sources -- and fan sites & wikis are not reliable. This BLP, along with many others I am aware of, has been subjected to unsubstantiated DOB edits by fans (and trolls). Shouldn't the category's lead also include that the year of birth must be verified?

Hello. You just edited via AWB Jerry Trimble, tagging it with a Year of birth missing (living people). It looks like there was a mass rollback after vandalism, or some other event in January 2018 and the birth date was removed at this edit. https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Jerry_Trimble&diff=next&oldid=822950980. I'm not sure why, it looks like a mass rollback after block evasion. I'll leave it up to you to decide how to proceed. This type of edit is out of my comfort zone. Hi, I saw that you're the one that edited Austin Mahone's bioagraphy. I tried to click the edit button to re-edit it but you made it private so I can't. If you could, would you please edit it that way his correct full name will show up at the top of Google search when people Google it? His full name is Austin Carter Mahone, not Austin Harris Mahone. Harris is Jake Miller's middle name, not Austin's. Austin inherited the middle name Carter from his late father. I'm not sure where you learned that his middle name was Harris but that's incorrect. I know this because I've been following Austin throughout his whole career since his YouTube days in late 2010. I've been a dedicated fan since I found him and have heard and seen him say his middle name repeatedly, in videos and on Twitter (I have a fan account for him — @MahonesCrush) Michalla ( talk) 15:35, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Hi, I saw in my Watchlist that you've added a category for missing DOBs to rodeo competitors. Namely, Kaycee Feild and Richie Champion. As they are active competitors in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, they have cowboy profiles on their website. I was able to add their birthdates and birthplaces to their articles and remove the category. I can keep doing that, it's no problem. But if you care to do this yourself, it's pretty easy to check and add.
Go to [7] and look for their profile alphabetically. The profile almost always has the birthdate and place. Note that if you are editing the article of a Professional Bull Riders competitor, there isn't one good place to find their birthdate.
Also, since I'm here, I recently wrote two articles in a new area to me. My mentor montanabw speaks so highly of your category skills. Perhaps you could check the cats over in them when you have time? Thomas D. Mangelsen and Grizzly 399. Thanks...
Happy editing whatever you decide! dawnleelynn (talk) 19:42, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Ciao!
I saw your interview on CBS and was absolutely fascinated and inspired. Started making contributions to this place because of you!! While I was casually surfing about I saw that many of my friends have a Wikipedia page so I thought I'd create my own! A quick search, however, led me to discover that that's against the code of ethics and so I opted not to. Nonetheless, I'm still enamored by the idea of actually having a page on here and I'm curious to know what deems you worthy of such a great honor. I made a website just so I'd have some sort of online presence (www.MarwanRefaat.com) but I don't think that has too much of an effect. So... What's the secret sensei?!

First, thanks for all your good work on categorization, and your other thoughtful edits on articles I've created!
Here is a question related to the "missing DOB" category: how can it be resolved for a duo like Skuja Braden, where there are two artist collaborators with different birth years already listed in two separate infoboxes? (Someone had listed the year of their initial collaboration in the lead, but I removed it today to reduce confusion.)
For comparison I looked at Laurel and Hardy and discovered a separate Template:Infobox comedian with the note "for groups - see Template:Infobox comedian for usage". Maybe that's what we need for artist articles? I am ignorant of the coding issues related to Wikdata, but I assume there must be a way to capture more than one date of birth from the article text?

Searched Google, GBooks, GNews, AllAfrica.com, and found nothing about this sculptor except profiles on commercial art sales sites. The ref given in the article is a good example of the kind of unreliable sources I found - it's a group that sells sculptures so it has a direct commercial interest in the subject and is therefore not independent. Is it just a ballpark estimation, as in someone who is 25 or 30 years old in 1999 would be 21st century, as that is when they will make most of their work? Thanks. Dear Ser Amantio di Nicolao,
I'm a journalist writing a story about polarization online, with a particular focus on a recent journal article that argues that Wikipedia resists political polarization through its editing protocols.
Given your prolific editorship on Wikipedia, I was wondering if you might have some time over the next few days to do a brief interview about what is involved with being a Wikipedia editor and how you handle differences of opinion on the platform.
The story will be published in OneZero, a new technology magazine for Medium.
If you're interested, please email me at: scarschwartz@gmail.com
All the best,
EDIT: I'm pretty sure someone else is the creator of this article now that I look at it. I looked at the talk page instead of the original article by mistake. Sorry!

I came across the article when working on pages. While I've been looking for sources to expand it, I struggled to find them. It doesn't seem like it meets notability. I nominated it for deletion. Here's the reason I wrote:
When searching for Skrimish at Aberdeen, MS, many references seem to be circular back to Wikipedia and Wiki-like sources. The NPS.gov site simply lists it from a book in 1908 that gives little details. I'm also unable to find secondary sources that go further than simply listing the article. The only in-depth source I've found was a collection of primary sources written by the belligerents called The War of the Rebellion: A Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies.
I wanted to let you know, so you could look it over.

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao! I hope you're having a great day and that life is treating you well. :-) I'm messaging you because it came to my attention that you blocked IP user 2600:1017:B80F:B7C3:FC25:A670:814E:22EF indefinitely. I'm not sure if you did this on accident or not, but I wanted to bring it up to you informally anyways. :-) While the block was certainly justified due to the user's repeated threats and disruption, an indefinite block definitely wasn't. This IP address is allocated to Verizon, a mobile network carrier in the United States. This means that IP addresses will frequently change hands as devices connect and disconnect from their data network and travel from node-to-node, or tower-to-tower. The indefinite block, given its allocation and the fact that it will frequently be handed out to different users over the span of just hours means that it will cause much more harm than good by affecting innocent users who happen to be given that IP address next. There are circumstances that have called for indefinite IP address blocks in the past, but these situations are extremely rare occurrences. I've run into IP users who have needed an indefinite block maybe twice while I've been an admin... so, definitely not a common thing. ;-) Anyways, I just wanted to give you a heads up; the indefinite block has already been fixed by another admin - so no harm done. ;-) If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to discuss them with you and help. I hope you have a great weekend and I wish you happy editing. :-D Cheers - ~Oshwah~ (talk) (contribs) 02:58, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello Ser Amantio di Nicolao,
You have been a very helpful editor to me in the past and in very recent past as well. An individual is spreading slander on the esm-artificial Wikipedia page again. Could you please delete the edits in the history of the /info/en/?search=Esm-artificial page once again. The individual posting the slander used the name WeKnowTheTruthKS, and it was posted May 17, 2019 PST. It shows up in the history as May 18, 2019. Thank-you for your attention in this serious matter.
Sincerely, Kenn
Thank-you very kindly for your swift response and for taking the time.
Hi there. You recently had an interaction with a user, "greenapples22" about the page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esm-artificial . They signed their name as Kenn Sakurai however this is not at all possible as he's serving out his 4 year sentence in federal prison. He was convicted of child rape, and creating child pornography January 2018 at the BC provincial courthouse in Richmond, BC, Canada.
I'm working with the victim in order to get the court documents which should be obtained very soon. Once the documents are received, I will be able to cite the sources for this edit. The person that claiming to be him is likely to be Ingrid Kaddatz, who was his character witness during his trial, despite the photographic and video evidence of his crimes.
Because none of my edits are slander and completely factual, if I send you the court documents upon being received, would the edits stay? He must be kept from working anywhere where children may be.
Thank you.

I appreciate that your edits are made with good intent and I know that you have accomplished a lot in this way so please don't view this as an attack but I am concerned about the plethora of pages I have seen where you have copied subcategories into their parent categories via Cat-a-lot, such as this edit in which Category:British television films is copied into Category:British films. Category:British television films is already a subcategory of Category:British films so this copying edit is actually contrary to the purpose of specific and precise categorization. As you can read on Wikipedia:Categorization#Categorizing_pages, "each categorized page should be placed in all of the most specific categories to which it logically belongs. This means that if a page belongs to a subcategory of C (or a subcategory of a subcategory of C, and so on) then it is not normally placed directly into C." Would it be possible to create a function to eliminate the parent categories that you have added in this way? That would be a very useful tool for film categories in particular where categories such as "British films" are far too broad and are already covered by multiple subcategories. -- Nicholas0 ( talk) 00:58, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi Ser, I just created the article, A Woman of the Century. The list of 1,400+ names is here. A lot of the biographies have been written; there are a lot that I still need to write. (a) Some of these Wikipedia biographies contain a photo, and the photo has the caption, "A woman of the century", or "Woman of the century", or "A Woman of the Century". I think AWB would come in handy to add a wikilink to A Woman of the Century. (b) Also, I just found this: Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from A Woman of the Century. It might make sense to add this cat to all the biographies within the scope of the book. If you have time/inclination to do either task, thanks! NO RUSH. Hello Ser Amantio di Nicolao,
I've created and have been beta testing a Chrome extension that I will soon be porting to Firefox. It scans web page text for all Wikipedia titles and makes the title act as a trigger for a page summary pop up when you hover over it. It’s similar to the summary pop up Wikipedia now has but works for almost all web pages and has unlimited levels of pop ups.
By default it currently scans a small subset of domains and optionally scans or does not scan a domain’s pages by clicking the extension icon. You can also change the security in chrome to only ever allow access when the button is clicked.
I’d love any feedback from you or anyone that would be interested in providing it.

There's obviously some misty edge cases here - an officially retired musician who still performs occasional concerts of already written pieces in 2000 or the like, say - but that seems the standard. Eugène Delacroix is not an 18th-century painter because he was 1 year old during that century. Just wanted to double-check - that IS the standard, right? If so, probably worth being a little less aggressive with the categories when the active period is unknown or unclear. SnowFire ( talk) 16:38, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
Hello! I noticed you put so many categories in the article I wrote - " Kathryn Warner". Thank you very much, I didn't even know they exist! :-) — Miha ( talk) 07:36, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
Is File:Charles Léandre - Jules Massenet - Panurge.jpg the poster you mentioned? Adam Cuerden ( talk)Has about 6.7% of all FPs 15:50, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
Oh, and if you want to see the other Massenet I found, Le mage, Don Quichotte, Cendrillion and Sapho are all already featured, the rest - barring Manon, Esclaramonde, Herodiade and Bacchus, I believe, which I still need to bring over, are at User:Adam_Cuerden#Things_either_currently_nominated,_about_to_be_nominated,_or_awaiting_renomination. Le Cid I have a ton more I can do, but whether the article can take any more featured images is the question. Hi. Can you populate this? It has sub categories by country and city but I think it should contain all city church categories on wikipedia for browsing purposes.♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:00, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
