Filipino Wikipedians

Hi, you were listed in the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Philippines page as living in or being associated with Philippines. As part of the Wikipedia:User categorisation project, these lists are being replaced with user categories. If you would like to add yourself to the category that is replacing the page, please add [[Category:Filipino Wikipedians|{{subst:PAGENAME}}]] to your user page. Thanks. :) Coffee 03:20, 12 August 2005 (UTC) reply

Since you seem to be inactive, at least for the past week, I just went ahead and put the category on your user page. Coffee 07:17, 19 August 2005 (UTC) reply

Philippine city infoboxes

Ummm... the green looks garish. Plus it does not help for those cities whose seals don't have transparent backgrounds. (e.g., Marikina City). Yes, you can improve on the previous template, but I think a little more subtlety is better. -- seav 15:06, 28 November 2005 (UTC) reply

Demographics of the Philippines Info Box

Hi. May I ask how to create or edit something like this? Thanks-- Nino Gonzales 04:30, 28 December 2005 (UTC) reply

Hi! Its' page is in Template:Demographics of the Philippines. The said template uses HTML (great site for learning HTML: [2]!), and the colors are done using Hex Code tables, which you can find here: [3] -- Matthewprc 04:42, 28 December 2005 (UTC) reply
Thanks! Btw, we got to talk about all the people pages you are creating. They're great, and needed. However, I think they could be refined. My two-cents worth... For instance, it seems Cebuano is a linguistic or geographical identity rather than an ethnic identity. Cebuanos probably don't think Bolhanos are Cebuanos. Bolhanos probably also don't consider themselves Cebuanos. Non-Chinese/Spanish Cebuanos (people of Cebu) and Bolhanos consider themselves to be Bisaya. I think Bisaya is the ethnicity, as defined by its Wikipedia article. But just keep on doing those articles. I'll try to contribute as much as I can. In the mean time, I write something to get some sort of consensus on how to define Filipinos and Filipino peoples. Matsalams!-- Nino Gonzales 06:04, 28 December 2005 (UTC) reply

Images

Hi, you've uploaded a lot of really nice images (like Image:Meralco Avenue, Ortigas Ctr.jpg), but a lot of them lack source and licensing information. Please add this information to the image description page to prevent them from getting deleted.. if they really are free images, I'd hate to lose them. Tasaday Edit: Demographics of the Philippines

Hi,

I am glad to see your interest in the Tasaday article. However, I feel the "Demographics of the Philippines" box is very distracting from the Tasaday entry. Plus, I do not see what encyclopedic value that box has. I feel this box should be deleted; however, perhaps we could compromise and make it a lot less conspicuous somehow, maybe make it way smaller or move it to the end of the article like the U.S. Presidents template (see Bill Clinton for example of usage).

What do you think?

-- Lensim 04:41, 31 December 2005 (UTC) reply

Hi! I already made the infobox smaller. -- Matthewprc 3:20, 04 January 2006 (UTC)
That's better but...don't you think it is still distracting? I do. It says nothing specific about the Tasaday (unlike a Taxobox does about an animal, for example), so I feel it belongs at the end of the article. What do you think? -- Lensim 21:32, 4 January 2006 (UTC) reply
Hi Matthewprc, I made a Successor Series template for the filipino people. I also collapsed the groups (linking them to lists) whenever I could. Hope you don't mind if I replace the infoboxes... -- Nino Gonzales 03:32, 6 January 2006 (UTC) reply
Thanks Nino! (for redesigning it to fit the end of a page). Very nice! -- Lensim 17:43, 11 January 2006 (UTC) reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Philippines_Islands.JPG. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{ GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{ Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{ db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

The term Filipino is like a catchall term for all the inhabitants of the Philippine Islands. As User:Nino Gonzales puts it in WP:TAMBAY, it transcends ancestry, and as such, it also transcends even blood lines. According to the said argument, which is accepted as the standard for the definition of the said term in Wikipedia, the Filipino Chinese is as Filipino as a Waray person. Another argument from Philippine Psychology dictates that being Filipino is actually based on emotions, and not on nationality. While she has no Filipino blood, she is and has been a long-term Philippine resident, and as thus, can pass off as a Filipino.-- User:Matthewprc
