So there are lots of options, and each has their limitations. For instance, Tropical Storm Lidia (2017) is largely done, but it's missing United States impact, and it might be missing some Spanish sources (no sé si puedes leer español). If you want to avoid any foreign languages, Tropical Storm Norma (1970) is mostly about flooding in Arizona. If you're just looking to get your feet wet and take a stab at improving a decent article, check out Hurricane Jose (2017), which is also largely done, but it can't hurt to do some spotchecks, fix formatting, and do a fresh Google search. The best part about editing is that it's all volunteer, so if you're thinking in your head "forget this random guy, I'd rather write about violins", then no worries. I'm a musician too, so I know what it's like to work with others, to improvise, to rest, and to scream when a string breaks and you want to rage quit :P ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 14:39, 23 March 2020 (UTC) reply

Great! So it's not that difficult. There are three components to a good article. Is there enough info in the article, is it all cited, and is the writing good enough? For the first part, you'll have to do Google searches, and somewhat familiar with the subject. You might notice that the storm passed near some area, but the article might not have any info for the area. Or maybe you'd expect more impacts, and there might be more info out there. As for whether it's cited, make sure all of the links are working, that you don't source any blogs (or other unreliable sources), and the citation covers the information. I saw your edits on Jose. It was decent, but watch out for the existing structure of the article. There are three paragraphs for US. The first is more of an overview, second is mid-Atlantic impacts, and third is New England. You added the Virginia bit to the New England section. also, it was good you added the reference for the TCR, but that was already used in the article. When that happens, you can type it out as:

So to answer, I don’t usually track things in the SWIO, rather the NATL and seldom the EPAC, but I wanted to see if I could possibly improve one of the lesser known and or underdeveloped basins (the SWIO). I also chose to start there because I wanted to see something fresh and different from most of the NATL TCs I may be familiar with (also, the SWIO and SHEM are both in season at the moment, giving me something to follow in the “off season”.) I didn’t necessarily have an intention of working on old/new storms in specific, but just clicked on a 1980s SWIO season and worked both forwards and backwards, filling in previous and recent seasons from then. I’m not exactly sure as to how long I’ll be working on filling in images for TCs in the SWIO, but I’d like to work on something perhaps more urgently needed at some point. Hurricane Noah, IDK, subtropical storms are pretty infrequent, and a majority of them do become tropical. Is there another color that would be natural? We've also been discussing updating the track maps (and making them interactive) on the talk page. Someone mentioned adding a symbol for remnant low/wave to make it four different symbols, but the intensity continues to be represented the same color regardless of category. We have the issue of some SSs having the same color as TS for their infobox because they are a storm, yet reached C1 with winds. One color would fix this issue and people wouldn't need to worry about it anymore. It would also make the transition to tropical more noted on interactive tracks as well. Should the non-tropical project be folded into our project as a taskforce since many of the non-tropical systems are cyclonic in nature? Many members of that project are also members of WPTC. I just feel like incorporating the two together makes a bit of sense. Everything else besides the ETs could go back into the Met project. Please note that I marked the project as defunct due to longstanding inactivity in it. Additionally, could you please let me know your thoughts on the comment I added about the grayscale for ETs? I disagree Jason Rees about making the different projects as taskforces under WP:MET, at least at the moment. I don't think it would be worth all of the hassle to recategorize everything, dealing with the thousands of pages. Then again, it could foster some collaboration, such as dealing with floods in unusual areas, or formerly tropical cyclones that affect Europe as windstorms. The second round of the 2020 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 75 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top ten contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 186 good articles achieved in total by contestants, and the 355 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.

Our top scorers in round 2 were:

• Epicgenius, with 2333 points from one featured article, forty-five good articles, fourteen DYKs and plenty of bonus points
• Gog the Mild, with 1784 points from three featured articles, eight good articles, a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews and lots of bonus points
• The Rambling Man, with 1262 points from two featured articles, eight good articles and a hundred good article reviews
• Harrias, with 1141 points from two featured articles, three featured lists, ten good articles, nine DYKs and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews
• Lee Vilenski with 869 points, Hog Farm with 801, Kingsif with 719, SounderBruce with 710, Dunkleosteus77 with 608 and MX with 515.

The rules for featured article reviews have been adjusted; reviews may cover three aspects of the article, content, images and sources, and contestants may receive points for each of these three types of review. Please also remember the requirement to mention the WikiCup when undertaking an FAR for which you intend to claim points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

Hi and it has been a while, I guess. Well of course every other user is going back to edit more because of what's going on, so might as well leave one to you too since I barely see edits from you lately, unless I am in the wrong pages. How are you is all what I am going to say. And perhaps, even if I think that I have messaged you before about this, but tips for upgrading an article to a GA? Because I found out three of my articles I have created before are so close to becoming a GA after the criteria were failed to be done in a week and I want to do them because I have been here editing for years without improving an article. Its better as in a way it makes verification of the information easier, gives the reader more hope that you have caught all of the siginifcant impact, saves having 10 million references and duplicating events. For example the NCDC gives 5 seperate entries for Vicky/Wasi in the storm events database, where as storm data when its eventually published by NCDC will list them all. Don't even think of it as a failure (and I forgot about Rosa). Rosa you got passed on your second time around. One of the hardest parts of getting an FA is getting enough reviews, so what I usually do is review other people's FACs and point them to my FAC, asking if they wouldn't remind reviewing. Re Hurricane Noah, season articles should have general meteorological conditions. I'm not sure if the seasonal summary needs to mention every storm individually, more so the activity by month, and any records. You'll need a source for the highest ACE in the basin, and the bit about multiple C5's. For the storm sections, imagine that they are the leads of the individual articles, so keep it short and condensed. Most of the hurricanes could get two paragraph sections. Some sections are too lengthy in the MH, like Lane or Olivia, without talking about the impacts at all. Be sure to cover the impacts for low-impact storms, like Tara or Xavier, which might have more out there. Hope that helps! Titli, yes, and Phethai probably, maybe Daye. Depressions are always iffy. I've talked about this with Jason Rees a few times, whether it would be better to have a generic India flood article for some of these depressions. Few have any sort of substantive met history, and are usually covered in news reports as part of the monsoon. That's good... I invited him to join the task force and chat. SHEM is in bad shape right now. The 2018 SHEM articles round down to the orange start color right now. EPAC, ATL, and NIO are off-setting the WPAC and SHEM, allowing the global to appear as B class. Further decreases will be largely dependent on progress in WPAC and SHEM. A NIO GT would help a bit, but it and EPAC have already shed most of their work. Same thing with the FT I am still working on.. I am busy this weekend and done editing for the night. You should try re-writing sentences by combining ideas and using more advanced satin structures. That should be a specially doable for EPAC storms, which are fairly routine. A tropical wave enters the Pacific ocean, it reaches peak intensity while moving in some sort of west and north trajectory, and eventually reaches colder waters and dies out. Actually, I discovered the source credited "criticism" was for the mattresses delivered after 19-E rather than Willa. Additionally, the organization was a Sinaloa state one rather than Mexican federal gov't. Partly it's being busy, but also part of it is that my hands have been rather sore lately. My hands are borderline affected by Carpal tunnel syndrome, so sometimes my wrists get rather weak (especially if I've been doing a lot of manual labor), and I can't do as much typing. I didn't want to give the impression to you or anyone else that I've been flaking out on editing. I must say it is impossible to have a season article without a lot of text when you have numerous storms, long lasting storms, and this many impactful ones. Also, what do you mean "No love for EPAC"? Haven't I given it some love? :P... Willa is getting closer, but will need a bit more love to push it over the edge. I am planning to have Hector, Walaka, Olivia, and Bud up for ACR during this month as some things have changed with them. Also, the first two really didn't get reviewed adequately. I didn't see it then as I was new, but I can see it now. Hector is 1/2 way through its rewrite. The record there in regards to it having the most hours on record as a C4 that didn't become a C5 seems either OR or SYNTH at best. I couldn't find anything supporting that assertation. I think I found really good proof of reliability for the other two sources. Hah, and for EPAC, I was just surprised no one added the first four storms to the assessment page. Either no one pays attention to it anymore, the it being either the assessment page or EPAC in general. Also, don't add any records for Hector that you need to understand HURDAT to figure out if the record actually happened. As you might've noticed, lately I've been focused on big picture projects, such as lists for each area, or by each intensity (as you well remember doing EPAC intensity lists!). I'm not sure if you noticed, but when you were doing the EPAC intensity lists, most of the other basins didn't have theirs. Now, the Atlantic only needs two more written and one more finished. The EPAC just needs TDs. The WPAC... needs all of them lol. But the NIO, just like EPAC! SPAC even has lists for the TDs. SWIO needs a lot more work. But it's a lot more done than a year and a half ago! Even the 2018 project. It's much more done than other seasons. 2018 has 54 articles, more than any other year but 2008. Using Wikiwork (which you seem familiar with), 2018 is the 3rd best season since 2008 (after 2015, then 2009). The Wikiwork is 176, which has to drop 68 points just to get the WW average to 2.0. Every FA helps. When I get back in the swing of editing, I'll probably FAC Mekunu in 2018, after adding more about the locust outbreak. ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 02:23, 4 August 2020 (UTC) reply

Indeed, I think we have made great strides in the 2018 topic. As for those records, anything needing HURDAT is SYNTH. For the new Hector article, which I had already drafted about 50% in February, I am deleting any records not explicitly mentioned. Keep in mind that this article will be formatted a little differently than normal due to the minimal impact of the storm. As of now, I have a count of 59 articles with a wikiwork of 3.37 for global. Also, there will be two subarticles for Mangkhut (a decision made by KN and myself due to the wealth of info available). Minus any additional articles you may churn out, any more for WPAC than what I already have listed as needed, and new SHEM articles, that puts us at 66 articles for the year. Also, keep in mind EVERY storm would be included in this topic, similar to how battleship topics have classes of battleships listed with individual ships indented (I did ask the topics director about this). KN told me he plans to get 3-4 more done by October and then do "1 per day in December". Just wanted to let you know that Willa was promoted today. I put Vicente back up as well... We are currently 39 wikiwork away from a B-class average (counting everything that needs to be created)... Up to 13 wikiwork may be shed from the currently pending items. With the change in how wikiwork is being counted, it caused SHEM, WPAC, and NIO to go up for work. I'm not concerned about NIO having risen since you would be able to eliminate the entire increase and then some with just a single GA. WPAC and SHEM will definitiely take a lot of work to get done... SHEM was actually close to dropping to stub average. WPAC is at start rating currently, but should go back to C-class rating once KN's GANs are reviewed (and hopefully pass). Congrats on Willa! I wish I had more time for editing these days - today, I'm working three different jobs ._. But nice work if you can get it, especially in a recession. I should have more regular time for editing come October. I'll do what I can in the meantime, but you might've noticed I've been dabbling in some other projects, such as trying to get a unified WP:Weather off the ground, and coming up with draft lists for new users to work on. I've realized that there are a lot of excited, energetic new users who just want to try writing something, anything. Storm articles can be tricky, especially if they're recent (and don't have a lot of good historical coverage), or if they're too old. But lists seem quite doable - so much of it is just copying coding, and organizing existing articles. Oof, I will never work on a timeline article :P Sorry, a part of me thinks they're content forks and shouldn't exist in the first place, but that's an unpopular opinion in the project, so I tend to avoid the timeline articles. I agree though, the timeline could include several agencies. Or, just as easily it could be kept to the RSMC (JMA). As for Michael, IDK if it needs a met article. Sure, it was a C5 landfall, but it also only lasted a few days while tropical. Then again, Patricia has a MH article. Met histories seem to be pretty easy FAC's. Now that you removed the maps as sources for the ending bit near Spain, I don't think you'll have any issues. You might have some people comment on the spacing, so maybe remove the image of extratropical Michael and move up the top 10 strongest template? I talked to Jason about Michael and he said there shouldn't be any division by county or subheadings in general for Florida. This wouldn't be done for any storm outside the US. He said the current Florida section is quite excessive for a main article and contains a bunch of smaller details. That being said, I think a subarticle would be in order for Florida as there are 10 para and likely room for expansion. The other sections will need to be expanded definitely. Georgia *maaaaaaaybe* could use one, since damage was over $1B, but that's probably a case of being able to adequately summarize everything in 2-3 paragraphs. The first one is Draft:Tropical Depression One-E (2020). It's kind of a dead draft - not well written and with only one edit. Not notable. I tried to delete it, but the deletion was rejected.

Thanks. No one thought Hanna would become a hurricane until yesterday. I knew it was going to have at least some impact (like Tropical Storm Cristobal (2020) so I created the draft two days in advance. Gonzalo looks like its gonna die out pretty soon, so I think most of the damage on the islands will be minimal. I wouldn't delete the Gonzalo sandbox. There were still preparations, and the storm still moved through the southern Lesser Antilles, a relatively rare occurrence. Given Trinidad and Tobago's population, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some decent damage there, unfortunately. Maybe you should reach out to Wikipedia:WikiProject Trinidad and Tobago or some of the other islands? They might be able to add info from a local perspective, which could add enough content to sustain Gonzalo's article. As for Hanna, the article is about to get a lot of attention, including some SPAM. You and anyone else watching Hanna's article should be on the lookout for potentially misleading information, which is bad if people turn to Wikipedia during a disaster. 20:16, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Based on consensus, I figured that an article on Gonzalo wasn't necessary. Fortunately for the people on Trinidad and Tobago, damage was limited - the main damage was some downed trees. I've been watching Hanna's article for the past several days - there hasn't been much SPAM or wrong information, and the article is a pretty decent C-class article.

As for the newly formed storm, Isaias, it looks like it will need an article very soon, since it is about to make landfall in the Dominican Republic. Looking at the NHC's forecast cone, there is some chance that the storm will have impacts to New Jersey and the east coast. Still a few days out, but worth watching. Yeah. Looks like Isaias is just gonna dump a lot of rain in NJ, perhaps even more than Fay. Wind impacts can't be worse than a nor'Easter. Anywhere from 4 to 8 inches is on the table. There's an overall lack of information on Isaias' impacts, since most of the news articles are in Spanish. Yeah, I'll get to work on it as soon as Isaias' impacts have calmed down. That storm absolutely wrecked my town. Downed wires and trees absolutely everywhere. Lost power, though I thankfully have it back. It was worse that expected for many New Jerseyans, especially along the coast, where 70+mph wind gusts were reported. The general reaction is that the storm was stronger than a lot of people expected. More than 1 million New Jerseyans lost power. Isaias seems to be a modern equivalent to Tropical Storm Doria in 1971 - similarly fast path, and similarly strong winds across such a large part of the country. @ Jason Rees: No, of course I don't think every hurricane or TC with land impacts should go up. Take Bertha for example, no one in their right mind would nominate it, bc it caused so little damage and only affected SC. IMO, not every hurricane needs to cause 40 deaths to be significant and notable enough for ITN. @ Destroyeraa: Most TC's that impact land affect a wide swath of area. For example in the WPAC, we look at systems forming in Micronesia impacting the Phillippines or Taiwan and then potentially going on to impact a combination of China, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar before emerging in the Indian Ocean or a combination of China, Taiwan, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Russia, and Alaska. Yea, it was bad, but just imagine how much it would've been if it was a major hurricane. That's the kind of major storm that belongs on ITN. The third round of the 2020 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it into the fourth round each had at least 353 points (compared to 68 in 2019). It was a highly competitive round, and a number of contestants were eliminated who would have moved on in earlier years. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

• Epicgenius, with one featured article, 28 good articles and 17 DYKs, amassing 1836 points
• The Rambling Man , with 1672 points gained from four featured articles and seventeen good articles, plus reviews of a large number of FACs and GAs
• Gog the Mild, a first time contestant, with 1540 points, a tally built largely on 4 featured articles and related bonus points.

Between them, contestants managed 14 featured articles, 9 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 152 good articles, 136 DYK entries, 55 ITN entries, 65 featured article candidate reviews and 221 good article reviews. Additionally, MPJ-DK added 3 items to featured topics and 44 to good topics. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 710 good article reviews, in comparison to 387 good articles submitted for review and promoted. These large numbers are probably linked to a GAN backlog drive in April and May, and the changed patterns of editing during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Hello there, Hink. Yea, sorry if I have not made progress for the List of China typhoons(?) article yet. University work has greatly increased for me and I kind of prioritised on improving some storm articles to GA. However I do noticed that there hasn't been an articles/lists made regarding List of Pacific typhoons by intensity? I thought that maybe I should start with that first, if that is fine. Hey there Typhoon2013. No worries if projects don’t end up happening. I love the idea of the intensity lists. Have you thought about how you’d format it? Would you just use JMA data? Or JMA and JTWC? All of the lists currently use RSMC data. Now, you could do Super typhoons first, but JTWC and PAGASA use that, not JMA. JMA uses “violent typhoon”, but that isn’t publicly used, nor is it common. As per the usual with the table haha. I could help with the making up of the table or listing down the storms. And yeah regarding the intensities, it is a bit hard to decide which one to do because the JMA has a different classification. Somebody brought forward the idea of having all classifications from both the JMA and JTWC? I mean the JMA is the RSMC, however people or the media prefer to use the JTWC classification like Typhoon or STY, as much as I am aware of. Crazy idea, but you could just include every typhoon in List of typhoons? That can be by century if it gets too long. There are 1,485 typhoons. Hi @ Typhoon2013:, I am surprised that you are at University as I thought you were a lot younger still. Anyway, I have only just seen this conversation, after Hink mentioned it to me offline via FB. I think that while it would be nice to go and split them all up into Severe, Violent, Super Typhoon etc, however, I think it would be easier to combine them all into List of typhoons. Even splitting by decade would remove any sortable function, such as the costliest, or deadliest typhoon. Also, if you're going to look for typhoons by year, you would likely to go individual season articles. @ Weatherman27: I can help you. First, if you don't know where to write your opinion piece, you can either write it in the Opinion Piece box, or in your sandbox (if it takes a long time to write). Next, think of something that you like about WPTC, or something that you don't like about WPTC. Or, you can write about your experience on Wikipedia, especially about your experience (not expertise) - the things that made you edit, the things that drove you to improve hurricane articles. You should probably jot your ideas down somewhere. Next, transform your ideas into a short opinion article - doesn't need to be fancy, like an essay - just a short lead paragraph, bullet points, and a short closing paragraph should do. Hey Hink! I know your busy, and don't have much time to edit. I have some things I need to talk and ask you for.

First, the Hurricane Herald is not ready because everyone is busy. The second Opinion piece we can cut if we need, but there needs to be a member of the month. Many members of WPTC have done exceptional work during the past few months, and there are plenty of candidates for the award.

Second, I have created a draft - User:Destroyeraa/Hurricanes in the Iberian Peninsula - similar to yours, I like hurricanes, Sixty Minute Limit's, and others to expand the scope of list articles about tropical cyclones. I am thinking about changing it to Hurricanes in Europe, because there seems to be only ten storms that have affected the Iberian peninsula.

Third, a thing that has bugged me is moving the drafts I make into the mainspace. Usually, I have to deal with the redirects, like the redirect for Hurricane Laura, before moving. I usually use CSD, but as I learned from Isaias article, it sometimes takes a day or two for the redirect to be deleted. I spoke to Jasper about it, and he said I need to have either admin or page move rights. Seems I need around 500 more edits to get the latter. Seems like I have to stick to CSD for a while.

Fourth, the article I created - Hurricane Dolores, doesn't seem to be edited by any other user after being moved to the mainspace. A bit disappointed.

Third, yea, when you're moving a page and have to deal with the redirects, it's best to ask an admin for now until you get move rights. As for Dolores, I see Weatherman27 edited the article. Not every article is going to get edited a lot, and if you did a good job writing it, then there might not be a lot for other users to add. I think any list of hurricanes in Central America would have to include both basins. And there would be a lot, regardless of the country, so it might be better to split by country? Panama might be the easiest, since it's the farthest south. I only know of one landfall there ( Hurricane Martha), and only a few other storms even affected the country. I don't personally think that Gonzalo needs an article, but I haven't read much about its impacts. Those borderline storms that affect the Lesser Antilles might have impacts on multiple islands, and if researched properly, then maybe there could be enough for an article ( Tropical Storm Kirk (2018) is a great example). For now, it looks like Gonzo's section in the season article is well-developed, so there would have to be a decent amount of info that isn't already there to sustain its own article, IMO. ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 01:17, 1 September 2020 (UTC) reply

Nana was a dying TC with a partially exposed LLC Wednesday afternoon, 6 hours later, it became a hurricane! Same with Isaias - it went from a 60 m-h TS into an 80 mph hurricane in 1 hour. I got really confused for a second, that both Destroyeraa ( talk · contribs) and I like hurricanes ( talk · contribs) responded to the same thread about the same general matter. Now I see that the above user was just translating Destroyeraa's Spanish. The beauty of the internet is that you can use Google Translate for Spanish sources. Basic searches like "Huracan XXXX" will show up plenty of information in Spanish-speaking countries. Key words to add are "lluvia" (rain) "muertes" (deaths) and "danos" (damages), and "deslave" (landslide). The fourth round of the competition has finished, with 865 points being required to qualify for the final round, nearly twice as many points as last year. Hi, Hurricanehink! Welcome back after a busy week! As of now, i'm really considering to split 1920s Pacific hurricane seasons, 1930s Pacific hurricane seasons, and the part of 1940–48 Pacific hurricane seasons into 16 new articles of Pacific hurricane seasons (1941, 1940, 1938, 1937, 1936, 1935, 1934, 1933, 1932, 1931, 1930, 1929, 1928, 1927, 1926, 1925). I'm doing this as a part of a WPTC initiative that just recently extended into January 15th, 2021 (Wikipedia 20th anniversary). I'm putting this quote when i'm considering these splits: Might need to create additional season articles for the early 1900s. I know that there is an earlier attempt in 2011 when WPTC is just new, but the problem is the potential articles is going to rely on a single source, and it's still going to be. However, Jason Rees's articles like 1940s North Indian Ocean cyclone seasons and demand of earlier NIO decade article drafts (which would use India Weather Review as the only source) is probably going to throw this to the window. As such, including these factors lead me into here to ask this question - would you approve these splits this time around? WPTC of 2020 is certainly different from WPTC of 2011. Thanks for the barnstar and for all of the work you've been doing lately! It seems like everyday, I see you working in a different basin, or doing some of the top level article. As for splitting the seasons, I'm all in favor of doing the Pacific typhoon seasons back to 1900. I just wonder, if the split happens now, then we have 16 more stub articles. That's not the end of the world, since all of those seasons could surely be expanded, using multiple sources. The issue with articles relying on a single source is when there is only that single source. Most storms since 1900 have plenty of newspaper and other coverage. Eventually, we'll be able to cross-reference all of the season articles with all of the articles by location, so we can be sure we got every storm, with the best possible information. That'll take some time, for sure. Still, as you note, the WPTC of 2020 is better than that of 2011. I think ultimately it is better having 16 additional stub season articles. At least we can add the infoboxes and track maps for all of the storms (assuming someone can take the data from IBTRACS). I'm glad you've been proactive with the recent surge of WPAC articles. Sure, a lot of them were written by a sockpuppet, but I'm glad you saw the value in those articles. The articles might not be the best, but as long as they're verifiable and correct, they provide some value. I found the copyrighted material on a website that attributes it to the Greek Government and the Greek Prime Minister's office. Turns out the website was lying - it was made by a photographer working for the PM who never gave permission for commercial use. Ah, you gotta look out for those images. I wouldn't say half your contribs get deleted, since that would number in the thousands, and you only have 120 deleted contributions according to Special:DeletedContributions/Destroyeraa. Just take pride in the good work you do, like speaking with other users so much. Yea I remember. Keep in mind though, $4 billion isn't that unusual for a US landfalling hurricane. Look at Sally, which caused $7B in damage, and wasn't on ITN (AFIAK). Isaias caused >$5 billion in damage, while Sally caused too less deaths (8 probably isn't enough, Isaias caused 18). Also, for Gamma, we have posted storms with less than 6 deaths, such as Cyclone Ianos, which caused 5. Ianos was posted mainly because of the aftermath, with some of the biggest cities flooded and heavy losses. About MotM of this edition, I'll say that I would like it to be both Destroyeraa and Robloxsupersuperhappyface.

Reason why Robloxsupersuperhappyface and Destroyeraa should be Co-Members of the Month (Edition) is because of their brilliant ideas when they created articles Hurricane Sally and Cyclone Ianos respectively, and also for their activity at proposals. Since we are reaching the end of November, I decided to start discussion about the MoTM right here.

I suggest that the MoTM of this edition should be two, not one. For the month of October, Robloxsupersuperhappyface is far and away is the MoTM, because of what I have said above. For the month of November, it should be Destroyeraa. As such, I don't want Robloxsupersuperhappyface to be Member of the Month (edition, which covers both months October and November), because from what I have seen so far, Super is not pretty visible in his contributions. Instead, I'm arguing that Destroyeraa has taken up things Super should have been taking on in this November, and Destroyeraa appears to taking more and more responsibility in recent days. It will be a while for sure since more info needs added. There should be some aftermath for a 600M storm. Although I think the impact may need to be fleshed out a bit more. My review thus far has been rather substantial in size and will likely take some time to address. I know Destroyer is wanting to get some FAs eventually so I have been more strict than usual. That's a good idea to be a bit picky/strict. There might be a temptation to let stuff go because it's "only" GA, but thorough reviews are how good writers become great. And one of the key points is whether an article is comprehensive enough. That takes a keen eye to determine. Hey Hurricanehink, I am sorry about what happened, first I am new to Wikipedia I really don't have an idea on how to work this, and second, no the information I got are from Documents and etc mainly from Calvert and St Mary's County, in Maryland. As you seem like you know what your doing, am I able to forward the Documents and information about the hurricanes that were left out to you to overcite and edit the pages properly, I also have a buddy that works for NHC (National Hurricane Center) which I am able to get information and documents that are currently not public. Anyways if we can work something out some time, and prove the information, that would be great, (and the Wind speed and storm surge data were all estimates made by the NOAA, from private sources who have gone over the hurricanes)!

The 2020 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round going down to the wire. Our new Champion is Lee Vilenski ( submissions), the runner-up last year, who was closely followed by Gog the Mild ( submissions). In the final round, Lee achieved 4 FAs and 30 GAs, mostly on cue sport topics, while Gog achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on important battles and wars, which earned him a high number of bonus points. The Rambling Man ( submissions) was in third place with 4 FAs and 8 GAs on football topics, with Epicgenius ( submissions) close behind with 19 GAs and 16 DYK's, his interest being the buildings of New York.

The other finalists were Hog Farm ( submissions), HaEr48 ( submissions), Harrias ( submissions) and Bloom6132 ( submissions). The final round was very productive, and besides 15 FAs, contestants achieved 75 FAC reviews, 88 GAs and 108 GAN reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Hello again and yes this is the continuation of our previously discussed topic. I have began the list for severe tropical storms in one of my sandboxes here. Thoughts? I have started with this because it is easier and I know we have the problem of either using the JMA categories (Strong, Very Strong, Violent) and/or the JTWC categories (cat 1, 2 etc). So Typhoon2013 and @ SMB99thx: - I'm not sure if there should be an article on "List of Super typhoons". Keep in mind that PAGASA uses that term too. We have a few options. I agree that there are probably too many WPACtyphoons for one article. So, I think the right solution is using the JMA categories (strong, very strong, and violent). The question then is whether to include JMA estimates alongside just JTWC, or include PAGASA as well? This is partly why the WPAC lists haven't been done yet. I'm glad there's a severe tropical storms list though, that's pretty non-controversial. This includes the Tropical Storms lists too because the JMA and JTWC can classify a TS separately (like 2019's Toraji and 02W). Well what I discussed with SMB was to include both the JMA and the JTWC categories. 1) JMA is the RSMC therefore we go for that which is the obvious three TY "sub" categories but 2) they are not really often used in the media nor not many are aware of those categories hence why I thought to also split up to each Categories 1, 2, 3 etc, and plus people are more aware of the JTWC TY categories than the JMAs. I personally thought that we should not include PAGASA lists of X category because it is rather unofficial and not all WPac storms get a PH name, and not all storms that are PAGASA-tracked make landfall. Moreover it is kind of pointless having a PAGASA lists because most storms there would have a very similar category than the JMA (+STY by the JTWC) so why can't the readers check either the JMA or JTWC lists. To add as well. I thought of that adding a "Landfall" section like the 'List of Category X hurricanes' for the JTWC lists ones. As I said that despite the JMA being RSMC, not many people will know the Strong, VS and Violent categories, and if people are curious where a specific storm made landfall they can see which category it is and it will be more easier for them since they are more familiar with that scale. Keep in mind, PAGASA is just as official as JTWC. PAGASA covers the Philippines with its 109 million people. JTWC is only official (by virtue of being the US-based agency in a US territory) in Guam and the Northern Marianas Islands, which is like 200,000 people. There are a lot more Filipinos reading the English Wikipedia (by virtue of English being an official language there) than Guam/NMI. I'd still rather defer to JMA because it's the RSMC, while also including wind estimates (not pressure) from JTWC and PAGASA. For the ones that don't enter the PAGASA AOR, it would be grayed out. As for the JTWC categories, they don't usually use "Category 1/2/3/4", so I don't think those should be individual lists. I still think using the JMA strong/VS/violent is the best bet, even if they aren't widely used. As most (all?) super typhoons would also be violent typhoons, we could have a symbol to indicate storms the JTWC classified as a super typhoon. I found some news stories about a guy being electrocuted in Florida and a patio collapsing, and another from the Press of Atlantic City about PTC Arthur interacting with an upper level low, which caused windy conditions in South Jersey. I just turned in my final draft of a paper. Im still fuming since the peer review never occurred. I have to write two essay replies adding onto the existing content (150-200 wrd each), write a 300-500 word essay, and complete a Physics programming lab tonight.
