Show Indians

Hi Dorie, Still having technical problem under the Section "Chief Iron Tail". The text is as follows.

Käsebier’s session with Chief Iron Tail was her only recorded story: “Preparing for their visit to Käsebier’s photography studio, the Sioux at Buffalo Bill's Wild West Camp met to distribute their finest clothing and accessories to those chosen to be photographed.”

The twin photo of Iron Tail appears, but I can't delete the photo script above from the text, and when I redo I lose the photo. Tried a number of times. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Richlevine00 ( talkcontribs) 13:52, 30 August 2012‎

I'm looking at Gertrude Käsebier#Chief Iron Tail, but I can't quite figure out what it is you're trying to do. Are you just trying to get rid of the caption under the image? If so, change the above to:
Käsebier’s session with Chief Iron Tail was her only recorded story: “Preparing for their visit to Käsebier’s photography studio, the Sioux at Buffalo Bill's Wild West Camp met to distribute their finest clothing and accessories to those chosen to be photographed.”
If you're trying to do something else, could you be more specific? DoriTalkContribs 21:17, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I just figured out that you were talking about the Show Indians article. I've now fixed it, and cleaned up some of the overwhelming amount of over linking while I was at it. DoriTalkContribs 23:50, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Improvement of page ' Not Just Fate'

Aplihs ( talk) 04:04, 3 September 2012 (UTC) Hi DoriSmith, I have added the book reviews to the page from the two notable sources in India, Hindustan Times(A premier newspaper) and flipkart (a prominent online store ) and I have contacted the author for more information/references. I am looking for help to resolve WP:MOS, it would be great if you could make some suggestions. I am referring to the WP:MOS talk page for help.

I'm not the one who tagged it as needing cleanup; that was User:Mattgirling. Me, I still think that WP:NBOOK, notability, and WP:RS apply. But you're the one who removed the proposed deletion tag, so clearly you think you know what you're doing. DoriTalkContribs 02:15, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

New to Wikipedia

Hello,

I recently created a page for Dr. Randall Wolf and I saw you made contributions/deletions due to copyright infringement, etc. I apologize for my mistakes as I did not fully understand page creation using Wikipedia.

I now have a better understanding of Wikipedia's rules especially for documenting sources. I have gathered more sources in regards to the Dr. Randall Wolf page and plan to add them shortly to improve the article's validity.

I wanted to ask you though, how do I remove the error messages at the top of the page such as "This article is an orphan." In that specific case, I had the "mini-maze" Wikipedia page for heart procedures linked to Dr. Wolf's page as his name was already in that other page (I just made it a link).

Thanks for your help in answering my questions and I appreciate your willingness to help new Wikipedia users learn about such a great resource.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

( Gobigrediufan ( talk) 13:23, 3 September 2012 (UTC))

Three minutes after you left the above you removed the orphan tag from Randall Wolf, so I'm guessing that you no longer have this question. DoriTalkContribs 02:15, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

There are more of them - I have merged the Loisa47 SPI into Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Mikaela salas as that account seems to be the oldest. Page Curation update

Hey all :). We've just deployed another set of features for Page Curation. They include flyouts from the icons in Special:NewPagesFeed, showing who reviewed an article and when, a listing of this in the "info" flyout, and a general re-jigging of the info flyout - we've also fixed the weird bug with page_titles_having_underscores_instead_of_spaces in messages sent to talkpages, and introduced CSD logging! As always, these features will need some work - but any feedback would be most welcome. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Okeyes (WMF) ( talkcontribs) 11:08, 10 September 2012‎

Speedy deletion declined: Phines A.H Muzic

Hey DoriSmith, you redirected this to Cherry Crush, but I believe it was a sequel, not the same thing. It may not have standalone notability, but just in case you didn't catch that it is a legitimately separate book, I wanted to give you a heads up. See this link, or this one for verification. I imagine that if this went through AFD, consensus would be to merge, but again, just a quick heads up. Thanks. Go Phightins! ( talk) 23:26, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

I saw it was a sequel. Given that the sequel article was so minimal and the initial book in the series had a reasonably good article that went into depth on more than just the one book, I figured that a redirect was in order (especially given that AFD is not for merges). Just a case of being BOLD — I figured I'd redirect and see if the consensus is with me. I appreciate you agreeing that I was right about where the consensus would fal! DoriTalkContribs 23:34, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 2683 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.

Do you have what it takes?
 1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
 2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
 3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
 4. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add AFC status or AfC Defcon to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.

William Diehl novels

Hi, I see you redirected the substub articles on William Diehl novels back to the main William Diehl page. Pages on writers, artists, musicians, etc. often contain lists of their works, and some of these might be linked. When this happens, it's wise to unlink them so that people don't follow them and just wind up back at the same page they followed the link on. I've just done it in this case, but it's something to note for the future. — Smjg ( talk) 22:56, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

That's a new one on me; I've previously been told to leave the links in place so that they won't have to be re-added in the future. Got a page where that's the recommended approach? Not that I doubt you; it's just for future reference so that I can defend myself to others. DoriTalkContribs 00:41, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Dori. Can you please nominate Michele Rundgren for deletion because I don't know how to do it? What prompted me to look her up on Wikipedia is because her husband, Todd Rundgren, was on David Letterman last night. She is clearly not notable, and of course she can't inherit it from her husband. The first paragraph makes the article sound like a joke; the very first sentence describes her as a "a self professed Has Been" and the next sentence calls her a "Brood Sow" (a pig used for breeding). I have no idea how this article even got approved in the first place. Thanks! :) -- 76.189.124.25 ( talk) 09:00, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

phillybhatesme

I do not understand why this topic was declined. www.phillybhatesme.com is a non-profit site that produces stickers for others. The reason for making this wiki article is to make people aware of what it actually is. The phrase "phillyb hates me" has actually been catching on in the car/auto world and when someone sees it on someone elses car, they ponder "I wonder what that means... I think I'll look it up online."

I'm just doing this to inform others about something going on in the world.

That is all.

I look forward to your response!

Thank you, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.242.6.26 ( talk) 14:54, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia isn't about "inform[ing] others about something going on in the world." Wikipedia is for collecting all the sources saying that there's something going on in the world and making one solid complete article with the result. If there's no sources saying that something is going on, then there's no article—which is the case here. DoriTalkContribs 01:05, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi DoriSmith. Thank you for patrolling new pages. Pleas take a moment to return to Los Idolos del Momento and its talk page and see what I have done before it gets deleted. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง ( talk) 23:14, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

WP:NPP#Other issues says to:
If that page includes something else I should have done but didn't (or did but shouldn't have), could you be more specific about where I can find it? So far as I can tell, I did everything it says to do, and none of the things it says not to do. DoriTalkContribs 23:48, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
For more information on patrolling new pages please see WP:NPP in particular the section on dealing with non-English pages. Page patrolling, if done correctly, involves more than simply tagging pages. It also avoid double patrolling and further control and research into already patrolled pages. Please take a moment to see what I have done for you on the article and its talk pager. Thanks. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง ( talk) 23:55, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
I freely admit to being dim today, but I have read that page, and many times. I just re-read it a couple more times, and the best I could come up with was the bit about

a link to Google Translate, which will show you a machine translation – rough and ready, but often good enough to tell you that the article is about a non-notable band, person, company, organization, or nonsense, and can be speedy tagged without bothering to list it at PNT.

Is that what you're referring to? If that's the overriding rule, it probably shouldn't be in between two sections that independently say to just tag as notenglish and list at WP:PNT. DoriTalkContribs 00:11, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
When Scott and I completely rewrote the NPP page a year or so ago to turn it into a kind of tutorial, although it was a vast improvement we admitted that it was still not perfect; it's almost certainly going to be improved again soon because since the NewPagesFeed went live a few days ago, many new patrollers are ignoring the guidelines and best practice. Don't confuse deletion policies with what patrollers are expected to do if patrolling is to be a useful process. In fact, if the situation gets worse, we may have to introduce a user right for it, similar to Rollback and/or Reviewer. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง ( talk) 00:29, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined

Hi DoriSmith. I just wanted to let you know that I declined your speedy deletion request on Empower network. It was a borderline call, but I feel that the claim (verified) that they are ranked as a top 600 worldwide and top 300 US on Alexa is a sufficient claim of importance to meet WP:CSD#A7. However, that, in and of itself, is not enough to meet WP:WEB, so it would still be okay for you to nominate the article for deletion via AfD. If you wish to do so, be sure to first check if the site has been discussed in relaible sources. Qwyrxian ( talk) 08:51, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
