Hello

Thanks for your note on my talk page! I'm glad you decided to stick around, since William E. Metzger and your other articles are very good. If you have any questions or run into any problems in the future, I'd be happy to help. Please don't hesitate to drop me a line. henriktalk 13:30, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Excellent

Hi Andrew Jameson. Your article on Leo M. Franklin is excellent; I hope you'll consider adding some of that information and anything else you want to Jewish community in Omaha. Great job. • Freechild 'sup? 22:30, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I actually hadn't footnoted the article properly because I found the syntax awfully confusing, so I originally opted to punt. Your template spurred me to actually figure out how to do it right. Andrew Jameson ( talk) 23:59, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Again, thanks so much. The information you added is great, and really adds life to the article. Thanks so much, and good luck with your future article writing. • Freechild 'sup? 02:18, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Highland Park as enclave

I didn't write any of that, of course. But Highland Park, Michigan and Hamtramck, Michigan are both 'islands within the sea of Detroit', so to speak. I.e., they are cities within Detroit's city limits. So maybe "enclave" might adequately describe them. OTOH, maybe your critique is temporal, not mainly spatial. 7&6=thirteen ( talk) 21:00, 9 January 2008 (UTC) Stan 7&6=thirteen ( talk) 21:23, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Stan

Yeah; my critique is temporal. Highland Park is (arguably, as it abuts Hamtramk and so is not completely surrounded by Detroit, but let's ignore that) an enclave in 2008; it wasn't an enclave in 1910. Describing it as such in an historical context is inaccurate. Andrew Jameson ( talk) 22:07, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: NRHP infobox

I'll take a look at the articles as my time permits. The infobox template with documentation is at {{ Infobox nrhp}}. There's more information at WP:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places#Help for editors. • Gene93k ( talk) 21:02, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

A new town article needs your services. Thanks. 17:59, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Stan

I think a location map, etc, might be good. 7&6=thirteen ( talk) 20:37, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Stan

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Woodward Ave Presbyterian Church.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI ( talk) 19:47, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Cut and paste

Pasted over from AN in case you missed it. Woody ( talk) 14:37, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
The content of Harry Kelly was cut and pasted into the brand new page Harry Kelly (politician), and the former page turned into a disambiguation page. That means the page history of the content at Harry Kelly (politician) is still in the history at Harry Kelly, without connection between the two. I *think* this needs fixing, but a) I'm not really sure of the policy, and b) I'm not sure how to actually go about "fixing" this.

To be clear, I'm *not* in any way objecting to the existance of the disambiguation, just wondering about the divorce between content and history. Andrew Jameson ( talk) 11:02, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

It was dealt with by PeaceNT. Yes, this is completely against policy. For GFDL reasons we need the edit history and cut and paste moves are not allowed. If you notice one please list it at the Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thanks for letting us know. Woody ( talk) 11:21, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks, really appreciate your new articles and photos, the other metro Detroit editors are sure to be delighted at your contributions too. The house photos are great, Hecker House, Freer house, etc. Have really wanted these. There are so many more too. Need many more like Bishop Gallagher House [1], the restored Inn at 97 Winder [2], Berry Gordy House, Fisher brother houses, etc., Detroit1701 [3] has a number of these historic residences that it would be nice to have the photos to create articles. Also need Edsel and Eleanor Ford House photos and other Grosse Pointe including the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Russell Alger Mansion [4].

Regarding the Thompson Home, as a George Mason work it is certainly significant. The multi-unit/apartments can be placed under the architecture template instead of the historic homes template.

Noticed that you have a number of new biographical articles that are indeed needed, the new people should be added to list of people from Detroit and List of people from Michigan, in case I missed them.

Would like to make a template or amend yours for the churches/religious landmarks in order to organize them. Again thanks. Thomas Paine1776 ( talk) 17:57, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

The Kresge house and Ford house picture had already caught my attention. FYI I'm looking forward to seeing you add the update to the NRHP. That caught my attention also. Great work. Thomas Paine1776 ( talk) 01:22, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Nice article, glad it was announced in new articles section of wp:NRHP (i assume it was u announcing it). Interesting mention of ribbon farms, sure that is worth an article. I haven't heard that exact term, which may be local to Michigan, but i know that land partitioning was done that way in other places such as in French canada for plots along the St. Lawrence River (very visible to this day, from the air). Hmm.... here is one graphic showing it, not exactly as i understood it though, at Seigneurial system of New France. Anyhow, keep up the good work! doncram ( talk) 20:07, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is, however, another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading your media there instead. That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!-- O sama K 07:27, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

NRHP

Are you ready to post your NRHP reorganization list? Could put yours in the Wayne county list and put what is there at the end of the Detroit list. Looks good. Let's go ahead. Thomas Paine1776 ( talk) 15:09, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Oops! ... my bad ... I'll fix it. -- Sanfranman59 ( talk) 03:02, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

All fixed. Great pix, by the way, and thanks for your contributions. I've made it my hobby this year to photograph all of the NRHPs in San Francisco. It looks like you're doing something similar with Detroit. Keep 'em comin'! -- Sanfranman59 ( talk) 03:31, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Great pic! You'll notice that I renamed the article ... "complex" is an NPS term meant to indicate that the listing includes more than one resource, and is not used by the general public, I'm sure (much less the church itself). You don't always have to use the Register's name for the property ... project standards and naming conventions are pretty clear that a popular name takes precedence.

I'm also going to convert it to {{ infobox religious building}}, which will allow use of the image at a larger size and more pertinent info plus a section for NRHP info. Daniel Case ( talk) 16:10, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Typo?

Hi Andrew ... the note you added to the description column for Wayne State University Buildings in the Detroit NRHP list reads: "Three buildings, including what was once a provat home (now the Mackenzie House) ..." I don't recognize "provat" and couldn't find it in any online dictionary. I'm guessing it's a typo for "private", but thought I'd check with you before changing it. -- Sanfranman59 ( talk) 21:49, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi, i notice you just added a photo from the NPS Focus system for Ste. Claire (passenger steamboat). It adds to the article, and I appreciate your adding it. I hope you will welcome this feedback. I note that your argument for its public domain status is not exactly correct, and I am concerned that it should not set an incorrect example.

I do agree that the photo is in the public domain, but I believe it is the public domain for its age and not because it is available at a National Park Service website and not because it was taken by a Federal employee. There are many photos available in the NPS websites which are NOT public domain. See my discussion of NPS copyright statements etc on this exact point, at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places#some but not all National Park Service photos are public domain. Also, while it is now stated by your use of a certain template that "This image or media file contains material based on a work of a National Park Service employee, created during the course of the person's official duties", in fact the photo taker is unknown and there is no reason to believe it was taken by a Federal employee.

Also, I would recommend cropping the photo to remove the label, but put the entire label text into the photo description. See, for example, the description of another NPS Focus photo, for this photo which I cropped to remove a label and uploaded to commons .

And finally, did you upload to wikipedia or to Commons? It is preferred to upload to commons.wikimedia.org for various reasons, including that other projects such as language versions of wikipedia can access the photos there.

Hope this is not too much feedback all at once. It happens that i really focus a lot on these exact matters. doncram ( talk) 03:48, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Got your reply to my talk page, thanks for responding and for being very positive.
The NPS tag name "PD-USGov-NPS" is indeed itself a problem, as it appears to you and has appeared to others to be meant for all pics at NPS sites. But the language it generates makes it relevant to only some pics at NPS sites, those where it is identified that a Federal NPS employee took the pic (not relevant to this one pic). I agree there is a problem about what tags are or should be available.
I've been using the more general "PD-USGov" tag instead, which is the tag put in place when you go through the commons upload process and select Federal government. However, as in the Ingham pic example above, that generates other specific language which I am not sure about either: "because it is a work of the United States Federal Government under the terms of Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 105 of the US Code. See Copyright". On the other hand, i am sure the PD-USGov-NPS language is inappropriate here, and yes i pretty much regard that tag as so misleading as to be "useless".
Your posting also added the text "Website explicitly states "Public Domain"" which i don't believe is justified, the term Public Domain does not appear at the NPS Focus search page that you link to. Again, the NPS copyright statements page linked from above under "some but not all National Park Service photos are public domain" is very clear that not all pics on NPS webpages are public domain. Hmm, i see where you may have gotten that, amidst this output when you search for Ste Claire:
STE. CLAIRE (steamer) [Image]

Link will open in a new browser window
Publisher:	National Park Service
Published:	11/02/1979
Access:	Public access
Restrictions:	Public domain
Format/Size:	Physical Document with text, photos and map
Hmm, I forgot about that being there. I think that the appearance of "public domain" is effectively a widespread error in the NPS Focus system. I believe it might have been meant to refer to the nomination text, also provided there, and it is careless programming to have that show willy-nilly as it does. It is certainly understandable you would want to rely upon that, but in my view legally about the photos it is over-ridden by the clear Copyright policy NPS gives elsewhere. Hmm.
Good, glad to see yes you are using Commons.
To go forward, maybe we both could edit the presentation for that Ste. Claire pic, then review/edit the others? And i guess i need to raise the more general tag issues at Commons or somewhere; i will put that on list of pretty big tasks to try to address. Thanks! doncram ( talk) 15:22, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
I have not looked at all your recent photo additions, but i do note that "Image:SS City of Milwaukee.jpg" is one which i believe needs to be dropped. Your understandable reliance upon the above reasoning notwithstanding, the photo appears to be NOT public domain, it is specifically credited to a non-Federal employee and the NPS guidelines are clear. It is good enough for the NPS to use, but in wikipedia we need public domain status or a broader permission under a free license to include the photo. doncram ( talk) 16:11, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Got your followup, thank you for replying again. I appreciate that you wish to interpret the "public domain" mention within the NPS photo system to indicate that it is a specific release of the photo into the public domain. That position is not unreasonable, although I think it is incorrect: the system is not specific that the words "public domain" refer to the photos, and it offers that phrase up for every site in the database, while the separate NPS copyright statement clarifies that not all photos are public domain. I did once wish to interpret it the way you do, I recall specifically pointing to that screen (though it was so long ago I would not be able to find the discussion). However, I was eventually convinced by the NPS copyright statement and by other arguments that the public domain statement there does not govern. I really don't want to argue. I just like to create articles about NRHPs, and I believe that is what you want to do as well, and that we are both well-meaning. However, either if you disagreed with my view (as you do) or even if you agreed, I would have to put up the photograph for deletion under the copyright violation processes. Even if you agreed, you would not be able to delete your own photo, i think, so i would be putting it up for deletion either way. Anyhow, there is a bureaucratic process now which I will start towards deleting the photo, which will take a couple weeks probably, in which you will be allowed to comment. But, as with similar photographs that I have reluctantly put up for deletion, I expect that the deletion will happen. I hope you will fully understand that it is nothing personal, no disrepect is meant, and it is just a bureaucratic grinding out of what has to be done. I will start that process now for "Image:SS City of Milwaukee.jpg", and I guess for completeness i need to review the other photos you uploaded around that time. You will get official notices on your talk page. Please do feel free to respond within the bureaucratic process as much as you wish. It will be administrators, not me, who make the final judgment. I hope that you will not be too frustrated by the process, and I do hope you will upload more NPS photos, but selectively according to whether the photographer was a Federal employee or otherwise public domain status can be properly asserted. Respectfully, doncram ( talk) 00:58, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Detroit articles

Great work on the Detroit related historic sites. As a former Detroiter and history buff, I am pleased to see that someone is putting in the effort on the city's abundant historic sites ... and doing so before it's too late. I was back in Detroit in August and was appalled to see the condition of many of the historic sites, including the old Michigan Central train station. Many of these places aren't going to be around much longer, simply out of neglect ... what a shame. Cbl62 ( talk) 05:05, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry this is true. I live on the Southwest-side now. However, I've lived on 7mile since I was 9 til about 2 years ago and I still say when asked "I'm from 7mile". My kids still say that that is where they are from. Growing up, the kids from 6mile claimed it. Alot of Detroit rappers are coming from Joy Rd. and have songs about it. Few of us actually live on those commercial streets. Once we have expressed our pride we may ask what part of 7mile are you from for expample. But, actually lived on Pierson street on the corner of Clarita! We easily recognize people new to the city by the way they describe where they are from because even the elderly speak of where they are from in this manner. It's not even a matter of arguement or debate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ebonywaters ( talkcontribs) 19:15, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

New Amsterdam District

Good morning

Student in an Art school in Europe (Belgium), I'm sorting out a book. I'd like to highlight American places such as cities, neighborhood which are called "Amsterdam", throughout personal opinions and descriptions from people in relation with these kind of places. I saw that there is the New Amsterdam Historic District in Detroit. That's why I'm looking for stories, for instance personal or real text, pictures, which represent or symbolize for you your own place (you can even speak about yourself...). On top, more stories received from many people, more the book will be interesting. I hope that you agree to forward my request among your fellow citizen and further. Thank you very much for your attention.

Best regards

Detroit historic homes

Thanks for all the work. The James Scott Mansion on Peterboro St. is still standing, it might be a good idea to get a photo. [5] He donated the Scott fountain on Belle Isle. Let's hope someone restores the home. There are many historic homes we still do not have for Detroit area such as those like Charles T. Linden Lake Historic District

Hi, I started the Lake Linden Historic District article on 12 Aug, unaware that you had taken pics and uploaded them to commons on 10 Aug. It is one of the recently Featured properties, and I and some others create articles for all those eventually.

Since you have several pics, and the NRHP nomination provides plenty of info, I wonder if we could do a DYK for this one. It would have to be quickly done right now before the 5 day clock for new articles runs out. Or a DYK could be done with a 5X expansion of the so-far-minimal stub, later. I also mentioned this at User talk:Lvklock. Would you mind if we went ahead with a quick DYK now? We'd share DYK "credit" of course. doncram ( talk) 18:40, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually, i see u took the pics on Aug 10, and uploaded them Aug 15. I'm happy to let u develop the article at your own speed later, and not to rush with a DYK nom now. doncram ( talk) 20:00, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Sure go ahead with a medium-sized one, and caption ur pics, then i and hopefully Lvklock would develop it more, hopefully later today. doncram ( talk) 22:19, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Seems really pretty good, nice work! Certainly long enough for DYK already. I quickly put in a DYK nom, please see Template talk:Did you know#Linden Lake Historic District, going with the red brick and stone construction from 1887 theme, which is exemplified by the 1887 Harris Block building pic. Feel free to improve the DYK wording or to suggest something completely different. doncram ( talk) 01:48, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Andrew Jamesson, you did such a nice job putting in NHRP infoboxes on some of the Michigan lights. If you could help out on this one (it just got rated NHRP "start") by tuning it up, I would appreciate it. Thank you and happy editing. 7&6=thirteen ( talk) 16:10, 20 August 2009 (UTC) Stan

NRHP PDF Focus photos for 2 steamships

This is old business. I got around to nominating this photo of Steamer Ste. Claire and similar photo of steamer Columbia, for deletion. The original copyright justification was not valid, as has been brought up and discussed in general terms again at wt:NRHP (discussion topic "NRHP photos", i think). Hope you don't mind my trying to take it forward now. It was a long time ago we discussed this and i let it drop then, but I think it is better to remove the photos and call for new photos and/or ones with clearly valid copyright status. doncram ( talk) 23:18, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Neighborhood pictures

Thanks. You are certainly working hard on neighborhoods, thankfully. Like the East Jefferson Avenue Residential TR article you did. Good format, and the way to go. Thanks for all the pictures for the info boxes. Check out Brush Park Historic District, would be nice to have a picture of 104 Edmund Place, [7], (the brick gothic style home pictured in this article - Lucien Moore House), since this house has articles written about it. It is a very good example of restoration. Nice to have these boxes for each historic district (I put a column for architectural style). Many auto baron homes not photographed in historic districts, see [8]. One of the Fisher brothers of GM, Charles T. Fisher House at 670 W. Boston Blvd in Boston Edison is one with notable architect by George Mason. Thanks. Thomas Paine1776 ( talk) 01:53, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

I agree with you. The next step on this article is (for me) to use the links to add some content and references. Once the article is longer, it will no longer be an issue. 7&6=thirteen ( talk) 12:31, 23 September 2009 (UTC) Stan

Your new photo on the Maccabees Building page is not of the Maccabees Building.
