I am a friend of this user IRL. Unfortunately, he died suddenly July 9, 2023. His many, many thousands of edits here will remain testament to his passionate regard for Wikipedia. lvklock ( talk · contribs) 08:18, 11 July 2023 (UTC) reply

I recall we didn't get off on the best foot, after he thought I was saying his draft article was no longer worthy as I had created one in the mainspace, but he was a diligent editor, especially on articles and categories in support of Savannah, Georgia, such as Category:Savannah Historic District. • This is terrible news. Like Elkman, I found Doncram difficult to deal with a decade ago, but after that blew up into an ArbCom case, he came back and continued to edit prolifically in the area of dispute for many years without major trouble. Most people either wind up getting blocked or quitting when something like that happens, and I think it speaks really well of him that he pulled it off. He put everything he had into improving our NRHP coverage, and his unstinting energy and enthusiasm have helped maintain a vibrant editorial community in that part of the encyclopedia. I was going to answer his last question, and then I found this...it's really sad. My condolences to his friends and family. I'm really going to miss him and his work. • Like many others, I worked closely with Don in the NRHP space 15 years ago. He sometimes rubbed people the wrong way, but no one doubted his desire to improve Wikipedia. I met him and lvklock in NYC for dinner once. It was nice to put a face to the user, but also to see beyond the sometimes abrasive tone and see someone who cared deeply. Condolences to his family, friends, and fellow editors who worked with him. dm ( talk) 11:50, 16 July 2023 (UTC) reply
  • I haven't worked with him in a while, largely because I'm not as an active a creator of NRHP articles as I was a decade or so ago, but I will miss him and no one can deny that he put a lot of energy into making WP:NRHP one of our more active projects when it might not have been all by itself. Yes, he could be stubborn when he had his mind up, but I never personally had a problem with him over that. I had the chance to briefly meet him at a WM-NYC event, and in that time I, like Dmadeo, came away with my good impression of him reinforced. My condolences to lvklock (who was also with him) as well. Daniel Case ( talk) 03:10, 17 July 2023 (UTC) reply

  • I am so sorry I didn't see this earlier. I enjoyed very much working with Don on numerous articles on historic sites and architects. My favorite experience with Don was a trip we made together with my two young boys (now grown men) to the Pico Canyon Oilfield -- can't believe that was 16 year ago! I've attached a photo we took on that trip -- I recall being disappointed that this was all that was left to mark the spot of the first historic drill site. Don was a pleasure to work with, had such strong intellectual curiosity, and was truly dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of our historic sites. If an afterlife exists, I'm sure Don is busy there working on ways to preserve its history. Rest in peace, my friend. Your contributions here will not be forgotten. Doncram drafts coming due for deletion

Hello, friends,

The most recent SDZeroBot/G13 soon report shows about 100 Doncram drafts that are coming due for deletion on November 12th UTC (it's still at Nov. 11th in my time zone). You can find them by looking at the 06:00 UTC hour. He made a minor edit to delay their deletion back on May 12th. They all have some connection to National Register of Historic Places. I'll ping User:DanTD, User:Star Mississippi, User:Netherzone, User:BD2412 from the discussion above this one in case anyone is interested in either taking over these drafts or taking the time to postpone deletion on any of these drafts they think are promising. There might be other ones spread throughout the day but, again, the huge influx is at 06:20 UTC and onward. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 01:26, 6 November 2023 (UTC) reply

THanks so much @ Liz. My on wiki time is spotty so adding @ CT55555 to your pings as they worked with me and @ Netherzone on Possibly's. Will see what I can handle. Star Mississippi 01:34, 6 November 2023 (UTC) reply

@ Liz and @ Star Mississippi, thanks for the heads-up. I will have a look at the drafts. There are some interesting ones and I have marked a few with the "Promising Draft" template. Will have a deeper look in the days ahead, as it seems there is a lot of good content in these drafts. Netherzone ( talk) 02:16, 6 November 2023 (UTC) reply

Just a reminder, that these drafts just need a minor edit to delay deletion for another 6 months. So, you don't have to take responsibility for updating 100 draft articles in the next 5 days, just delay their CSD G13 speedy deletion. Liz Read! Talk! 00:57, 8 November 2023 (UTC) reply
@ Liz: I'm glad to take that up. BD2412 T 19:51, 10 November 2023 (UTC) reply

User:Liz will deletion notices be posted here? I would like to know if any of his drafts are deleted. Better yet I'd like to see them before they are deleted if possible. I've looked through the list but I don't know which I've missed. Thanks. FloridaArmy ( talk) 01:06, 9 November 2023 (UTC) reply

@ FloridaArmy if we missed any from the report @ Liz referenced, I'm happy to restore. @ BD2412 made a search, wonder if there's a way to see overlap with @ SDZeroBot's so we can catch them first like we mostly did with Possibly. I'd imagine Fastily's bot will leave notices here for some and Liz and others who patrol CSD will so hopefully we can grab them. Star Mississippi 03:13, 9 November 2023 (UTC) reply
So, just posting a reminder that about 100 of Don's drafts will be coming up for deletion around 06:20 UTC (see this list). Firefly Bot normally posts notifications but it only does so once and it looks like so many of these drafts are coming due because Don went and did a minor edit on each to delay their CSD G13 deletion. This is not uncommon but it means that Firefly Bot didn't send a second notice. As far as deletion notices, Explicit and I do the majority of the CSD G13 draft/sandbox deletions, I post a deletion notice on the User talk page, Explicit doesn't. Years ago we tried to talk about this difference but I've found it's almost impossible to convince a longtime editor/admin to change their editing habits. And it is very common among admins to not leave talk page notifications when they delete a page through speedy deletion, unfortunately. I've been meaning to write a post about this on WP:AN but there it is.
If you want to create a list, just take the SDZeroBot list for 11/12, sort it by the time/date column, copy all of the drafts during the 06-07 UTC hour and delete all of the content but the page titles. It's a pain but that's what I got for you. The only good point is that this list will live on in the page history of the SDZeroBot G13 soon page so if you can't get to it today, you can always check at a future date and see which drafts were deleted. But it's much easier to postpone drafts now than go to WP:REFUND and ask for dozens of drafts to be restored. The admins there will do it for you, but you might hear a groan over the internet. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 17:49, 11 November 2023 (UTC) reply
Thank you for the reminder, Liz. I went thru the whole list and marked a selection of the drafts (mostly those on historical buildings and homes on the NRHP registry since there should be documentation/sources available), with either a "promising draft" template or by adding a dummy edit. Looks like some drafts have already been improved and/or moved to main space. Netherzone ( talk) 20:12, 11 November 2023 (UTC) reply
Well, it looks like no pages were deleted! A lot of editors helped out but especially Netherzone and Explicit delayed deletion of these drafts. And I think at least a dozen were moved into main space or were draft versions of main space articles so they were Redirected. So, I think that is quite a success! Most of these drafts still need some finishing up but at least there won't be 100 that have to be addressed over 20 minutes, they are now spread out over several weeks in May. Thanks for the response especially for those editors who brushed up the content. Liz Read! Talk! 06:45, 12 November 2023 (UTC) reply

For the record, I recently started working on two drafts in one, but I still want more information on them. I also hope that if there's any reason one of us can't work on some of these drafts that other editors take over the job. --------- User:DanTD ( talk) 05:37, 28 November 2023 (UTC) reply

Actually, as of this writing, quite a significant number of these have been lost. I don't know how many are missing, or which ones I would've been interested in restoring in order to work on, but if anybody wants to work on the ones that were eliminated they should start submitting requests for restorations of those drafts.
