I just changed Lars Lindstrom from a redirect to a DAB, since there are two characters with that name. I also commented out the categories that the page had been placed in. Since they only apply to one of the two characters, I was not sure if they should be removed or if additional categories should be added for the other character. Anyway, since you recently created the redirect page and have done a lot of category editing, I thought you might have a better sense of what to do about this page, so I thought it would be worth bringing it to your attention. If you get a chance, you might want to check it out. Thanks. 99.192.76.145 ( talk) 13:09, 11 April 2014 (UTC) reply

Colin Ferguson

I noted that you reverted two "unsourced claims" on the Colin Ferguson page, including an edit I made. Please be more careful in the future; the "unsourced claim" I made regarding Ferguson's role as the Maytag Repairman was actually sourced later in the article, and both his Maytag role and his activity as an NHL.com blogger were easily verifiable by a quick web search. Rather than removing such claims, which makes another editor go back and re-add the material, why not simply leave a "citation needed" tag, allowing the rest of the Wikipedia community to source the material? For that matter, why not take an extra few seconds and reference them yourself? Just my two cents. - Brother Bulldog ( talk) 15:53, 12 April 2014 (UTC) reply

Royals

Hello there! You've been moving a lot of royalty articles to non-standard names, etc. Some of these names are not prescribed by the naming convention on royalty, located at WP:NCROY. Would you please start some discussions moving forward? Although the changes may seem non-controversial, I think it would only be a matter of time before a good chunk of them are reverted. Thanks! Seven Letters 01:33, 18 April 2014 (UTC) reply

Thanks for the info. When you say "not prescribed", does that also mean "not proscribed"? As you say, they are not particularly controversial, and some are reverts of prior edits I made that I later reconsidered. Yours, Quis separabit? 01:38, 18 April 2014 (UTC) reply
I've taken the liberty of copying your reply on page over to here. I hope you don't mind. They are not proscribed but the editors have generally seen that the titling follows the guidelines as closely as possible. For the most part, marital titles have not been included in the article titles of princesses unless needed for disambiguation. Also, generally, we don't include the house names (except for some French royals) were they differ from the actual titles used (for instance, using Bourbon when someone is "of Spain"). I reverted one article back to Jaime, Duke of Madrid and have looked over the others. They look okay but I have placed a comment on the talk page for Princess Julia of Battenberg. Stylistic changes to the names usually warrant discussion because the editors who came to consensus on WP:NCROY indicate that some name forms imply certain things about the article subject (whether they were sovereign, a consort, a junior member of a house, etc). Clear as mud but I hope it helps going forward. Seven Letters 01:45, 18 April 2014 (UTC) reply

Recent revert of edit on Lafayette, Louisiana

Hello. Hope you're well. I made the change to the ref list because it's on this list. [1] which was created based on this discussion. [2]. I had thought we were moving towards column width as standard rather than fixed number of columns. Cowlibob ( talk) 07:54, 19 April 2014 (UTC) reply

Anyway to get the ancestry template and the royalty infobox to exist side by side as there is a huge gap of white space from the section header of Ancestry to the actual ancestry table and it's default hidden so it is easy to miss and on first, second and third impression the page appears blanked and vandalized until you edit it and see there is something there. Returning it to the old ancestry layout without using the template would be preferable than all that white space. 24.241.69.99 ( talk) 20:17, 20 May 2014 (UTC) reply

List of cemeteries

Hi: I see a lot of redlinks being deleted from the list. Are you going to do all 50 states? My concern is about the territories. I added them because there is GNIS data available which I put into editor comments on each. My thought is to have the data available for anyone who wants to expand upon these cemeteries in the future. As these are out of the way territories, finding editors who can work on them is difficult I'm sure. And I doubt that many will merit articles on their own, so I did not redlink them. But, in at least one situation, the cemeteries in the Virgin Islands have historical significance due to their Danish history. Also, the listing for the territory cemeteries will be useful for editors who might want to link the particular section in an "infrastructure" paragraph for articles about the territories. Thanks. – S. Rich ( talk) 04:11, 21 May 2014 (UTC) Added comment: I was a bit mistaken. When I saw you were removing redlinks per the edit summaries, I assumed you were deleting the names of the cemeteries. (It pays to actually look at the diffs!) In any event my concern about the territories remains the same. Thanks. 05:26, 21 May 2014 (UTC) reply

List of stage names

Pointing to a clearly wrong part of the inclusion criteria is not really a justification for adding a name. Should we also add the names of anyone who runs the craft services table on a movie set if they changed their name as well? At least the Stage name page more accurately says "A stage name, also called a screen name, is a pseudonym used by performers and entertainers such as actors, wrestlers, comedians, and musicians." Why should the "list of..." page have an inclusion criteria that expands beyond listing just stage names? I would add this to my recent comments on the list talk page, but it just seems too absurd to have to argue that the list of stage names should not include people who had no "stage" career of any kind. 99.192.72.142 ( talk) 12:34, 23 June 2014 (UTC) reply

Anonymous tendentious claims and sourcing

Regarding this edit: your first instinct, to revert that edit, was actually correct. I looked up the organization and Izetbegović's relation to it on Google Books, and easily found contradictory references, in sources that are better than this Trifunović fellow on the face of it. In the future, please verify dubious claims not just in raw translations of Glas javnosti but in actual secondary sources. If you need help with foreign text, don't hesitate to ask other editors. -- Joy [shallot] ( talk) 14:38, 23 June 2014 (UTC) reply

Dina Merrill's birth year

First of all, won't argue with you due to Mark Twain, who said: "Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience."

All I will do is point out to you, if borderline vandalism is to use information alongside sources, then yes I am a borderline vandal. However, I don't exactly answer to the encyclopedic definition of borderline vandal.

Lastly, hate to state the obvious, but I used a source which has Dina Merrill as being born in 1925, The Palm beach post is not unreliable. They conducted the interview with her. And in case you haven't noticed, you removed the source without giving any reason whatsoever. Radiohist ( talk) 18:28, 9 July 2014 (UTC) reply

Dina Merrill's word (an actress and a woman lying about her age, how unprecedented and amazing!!) does not outweigh the reflinks provided, as well as Intelius and census records, which all show she was in fact born in 1923. Quis separabit? 18:32, 9 July 2014 (UTC) reply
Ok, Ok, Ok....... but not quite true, McGee. Intelius has her as being born 1925. Radiohist ( talk) 18:35, 9 July 2014 (UTC) reply
Apology accepted. Don't worry, as Robin Williams once said: "It pays to overact." I also must apologies, because there's a high probability that she was born in 1923. Intelius has had some mistakes, their reliability is somewhere around 91%, give or take. Radiohist ( talk) 18:51, 9 July 2014 (UTC) reply
I agree. Intelius is certainly not 100% reliable (what source is??), but that's why I provided some other sources as well for you to see. You don't need to apologize for nuthin'. As Ralph Kramden used to say when he got in trouble, and I must admit (sometimes), "I['ve] got ... a ... BIGGGGGGGGGGGGG MOUTH". Quis separabit? 18:58, 9 July 2014 (UTC) reply

Doris Day birth

Why don't you just say 1922 or 1924 sources differ? That should satisfy everyone, while giving the information that several credible sources have given both dates. The census and biographer may be mostly reliable, but so is Day and marriage records that say 1924, so there's reasonable doubt she was actually born in 1922 and should at least be noted. You also seem to be one of very few wanting to use 1922, most people want 1924.

My friend, you have met your match in Ms. Day. Pardon my intrusion, hope you don't think I am a internet Peeping Tom (although maybe I am). Unlike Dina Merrill, Doris Day has said, time and time and again, that she was born in 1924, even though reliable sources cite her as being born in 1922. Your move, my faithful birth date argument buddy. Again, pardon me for butting in. Radiohist ( talk) 16:27, 27 July 2014 (UTC) reply

Nigel Dodds

Hi there, sorry completely forgot about 3RR, my bad. His profile says Londonderry which, considering his political stance, means Derry the city. If you look at the article history you'll see his birthplace, etc is being edited frequently as a result of non-neutral viewpoints. Including both deters as it does not exclude one or the other, as far as I know this has been done in other articles with some success. Nigel Dodds Profile Link Chris (Talk) 01:02, 10 May 2015 (UTC) reply

Found it "Nigel Dodds was born in Derry and was educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh" Politics.co.uk and "Place and Date of Birth: Londonderry 20.08.1958" NI Assembly Archive. I guess I'm going on the presumption that these are talking about the city but I find it hard to believe that both are talking about the County as most will refer to the city when discussing these things. If you look at this NI-Assembly Archive for McGuinness you'll see that it refers to the city? Chris (Talk) 01:18, 10 May 2015 (UTC) reply

Christopher Pyne

Hi. I realise this was a long time ago, but regarding this edit - where did you get the idea that Pyne was the second-youngest MP ever? When he was elected, he was the tenth youngest MP (ahead of him: Edwin Corboy, Andrew Jones, Charles Frazer, Peter Shack, Bill Falkinder, Bert Lazzarini, Christian Zahra, Gary Punch and Malcolm Fraser himself). I saw this repeated in the SMH today and was shocked to find they'd got it from us! I only ask because if it came from a source, I may need to dig up another source to correct it (rather than my own maths). Pyne doesn't claim this himself, does he?? Frickeg ( talk) 11:19, 4 December 2013 (UTC) (Edit: he was, of course, elected before Zahra was, so the ninth youngest. The point still stands, though.) Frickeg ( talk) 11:26, 4 December 2013 (UTC) reply

The first one is a mirror of yesterday's SMH article; the second just states that he was the youngest MP at the time of his election. Frickeg ( talk) 19:35, 4 December 2013 (UTC) reply

I'm not disputing or reverting your recent tweak, but I'm trying to understand what you have in mind so I can do better next time. I am planning a future edit in a few days, in which I'll move all of the refs (making them list-defined refs) for easier maintenance. Earlier today, I went through all refs in the article to make all date formats consistent, according to one of the acceptable WP:DATEFORMAT choices (#4 in the table). You then tweaked some refs to spell out the month, which of course isn't wrong but introduced an inconsistency. So basically, I'm trying to square your edits with the guidelines in WP:CITEVAR which suggest that internal consistency is important, and we should generally leave well enough alone, rather than impose our style preferences on other editors. Please understand that I'm perfectly OK with generally adopting your style preferences, in order to avoid any inconsistency or conflict over minor matters of style. I just want to be sure I understand what your edits are directed toward, so I can stay consistent. Lwarrenwiki ( talk) 21:11, 13 January 2014 (UTC) reply

What on earth are you doing on May 22? The names you reverted out were all blue links. Seth Gabel's maternal grandmother was named Ruth Gabel. Martin Gabel was Ruth's uncle (her father's brother). I wasn't suggesting that Seth's birth surname be added into the article, at least not until he mentions it himself or something along those lines. Just sharing since I thought you might be curious. @ Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi: Hi, he actually did respond somewhere else. Anyhow I only used this template as a way of conveying a message. Right after posting it I regretted it and thought I should have said it in my own words. However he thanked my edit so I thought that was his way of saying he appreciated it. As for the essay, note that it says "Recipients should also put themselves in the shoes of the user of the template. How were they to know you are a regular? Were you acting like an experienced user? No one is perfect, you or the editor that used the template. Take the template as a reminder and/or constructive criticism and move on." I had no intention of teaching or advising RMS. All I wanted is to let him know that his comments were too harsh in a good faith manner. Cheers and I appreciate your concern over this -- Chamith (talk) 06:45, 11 May 2015 (UTC) reply
