As we are all volunteers you could consider prefacing your requests with "please" and/or add a "thanks" somewhere. That would be much appreciated! — Martin (

Dear Martin, thank you for your feedback. As a fellow volunteer, I understand the importance of politeness in our interactions. I apologize if my previous requests seemed abrupt or lacking in politeness. While I aimed for brevity, I will strive to strike a balance between conciseness and politeness in my future communications. I will ensure that my requests come across in a more polite and considerate manner.

Stop mass-altering categories
If there are widespread changes that you think need making, raise a relevant project discussion.

Ok. No problem. I've added those categories there too. "Arab" is a particularly complex ethnolinguistic grouping that defines people based on shared language and culture as much as it does by other stereotypical elements of ethnicity.

For want of a parallel, it's a bit like the term "Latin" as a pan-South American grouping.

Allow me to intervene, this argument stopped me, (Palestinians is aticle about nationality, they are of mixed ethnic origin). How do you distinguish between race and ethnicity?. The Palestinians are not mixed culturally, linguistically, ancestrally or even as an identity. Palestinians are not like Americans who are made up of thousands of different ethnic backgrounds. Fnally, Please have enough information about the topic you are working on before making any changes.

Hmmm, in terms of self-identification, I think this matter needs a census such as a religious census. Not just a word stemming from research or opinion.Sarah Schneuwly -Schneider (

To the above, per most definitions, Lebanese and Kuwaiti people would be included for sure (though there is certainly some resistance to the categorization among Lebanon's Christian minority, for long-standing reasons related to identity politics within the country). Somalis are not really Arabs linguistically or by any other conception of ethnicity. I've removed that.
