Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, 3d.nftart. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Karl Lagasse, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Wikipedia is not the correct venue for self-promotion or advertising promotion. Netherzone ( talk) 15:32, 24 September 2022 (UTC) reply

Thanks for your comments. I'm not being directly or indirectly compensated for my edits, I’m just a person who enjoys contemporary art and I don’t have any paid relationship with Karl Lagasse. I’ll add the disclosure requirement to my profile as soon as you give me your feedback. After I do this,  is there a possibility to avoid the elimination of this article or what are the next steps? 3d.nftart ( talk) 18:48, 13 February 2023 (UTC) reply

Hello 3d.nftart. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Karl Lagasse, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:3d.nftart. The template {{ Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=3d.nftart|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Netherzone ( talk) 20:42, 12 October 2022 (UTC) reply

As previously advised, your edits, such as the edit you made to Karl Lagasse, give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:3d.nftart, and the template {{ Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=3d.nftart|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. You never responded to the COI warning issued in September. It is required that you respond and comply with our guidance and policies. Could you please explain how it is that you were able to create and upload as your "own work"a formal photographic portrait of Lagasse, images Lagasse and Johnny Depp and other famous people, multiple images of Lagasse's work if you are not a connected editor, such as an employee of the artist, a family member or friend, their PR agent, gallerist, sales representative, agent, etc. or the artist themself? Netherzone ( talk) 23:08, 13 February 2023 (UTC) reply
These photographs are from Karl Lagasse's own website and social media. Should those be referenced separately even though those links are already on the article? The photographs are easily found on a google search. 3d.nftart ( talk) 18:58, 14 February 2023 (UTC) reply
@ 3d.nftart Then why did you claim them as your own work? If you have copied them from his website and social media, did you obtain copyright clearance to release artist's and/or photographer's copyrights into perpetuity? By uploading these images, you released the photographs/artwork as your own work, with a CC 4.0 license which means anyone can now copy and redistribute them in any medium or format, and can adapt, remix, transform,, and build upon the works and images of the works for any purpose, even commercially." You have also agreed by uploading them that the "The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms." Did you shoot the photographs yourself? Did you get permission from Lagasse and the respective photographers to use them? Netherzone ( talk) 19:10, 14 February 2023 (UTC) reply
As I mentioned before, I'm a person who enjoys contemporary art and I study the subject. I wanted to do some posts about artists I admire and follow and in the process learn about the features of Wikipedia. Can you give me recommendations for future publications? Because from what I have seen, I find myself with a lot of restrictions on the publication, I have seen your comment that I don't have to have any relationship with the artist, but at the same time you ask me to have their permission. In some comments that have been made to me in the past, I see that many of the people who restraint me have no knowledge of contemporary art so I would like to know the right path. Are there experts on Wikipedia who are paid or should I hire someone who is an expert on the subject? I've come across biographies like Rose Eken's or Richard Orlinski's and honestly, I don't understand why or how they've been published. 3d.nftart ( talk) 18:35, 20 February 2023 (UTC) reply
