Farm to Market Road 76 (FM 76) is a Farm to Market Road in the U.S. state of Texas maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The road, located in southeastern El Paso County, connects southeastern portions of the city of El Paso, including the former town of Ysleta now wholly within the city, with the communities of Socorro, Clint, and Fabens. The road along with nearby State Highway 20 (SH 20) serves as a major arterial between Interstate 10 (I-10) and the Rio Grande in the El Paso Lower Valley.
Route description
History
FM 76 was originally designated from its current northern terminus at SH 20, then part of US 80, near Ascarate Park to Zaragosa Road in Ysleta in 1943. The road was subsequently extended to Clint in 1944 and then to Fabens in 1945. The road was extended along the remainder of its current length in 1948 ending at FM 1109. [1]
US 80 was the predecessor route of I-10 and I-20 in western Texas. SH 20 was designated over the non-Interstate portion of I-10 in 1969. [3] US 80 was decommissioned in western Texas in 1991. [4]

Farm to Market Road 1109 formerly intersected the southern terminus of FM 76 and connected FM 76 with the Rio Grande to the west and SH 20 to the east 0.8 miles (1.3 km) north of Tornillo. FM 1109 was originally designated in 1948. In 2005, the state designation was cancelled, and the road returned to county maintenance as County Road 7180 and County Road 7181. [5]
