Although you are still blocked, we can start with the mentoring on here. We're gonna start nice and simple. Part of being a productive Wikipedian is being patient, so I hope you don't mind waiting a bit longer until you get unblocked. So I can get to know your editing better, all you have to do is answer these questions with a {{ tick}} next to it.

Lesson 1 - writing

As a Local Chinese Hongkonger, i'm also a gentleman, and i don't speak bad language, smoke, drink, or gamble. Today, Earth100 has lived to edit Wikipedia, after braving through Typhoon Vicente(2012)'s furry on my home city. I made my first edit on , in a reply from a "In response to your feedback". My most significant contributions to Wikipedia are photographs, however i was even blocked on Two occasions, with once for 3 whole weeks and i never got any chance of unblocking (which was unlucky) but eventually the unblock time arrived, and i did what i did best.

That is how your user page currently reads. Your first assignment is to rewrite that so it's written with proper grammar and spelling. I'll give you one hint. Make sure you capitalize your i's. --♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 02:12, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Good. I want you to go back and work on spacing this time, as well as knowing what to capitalize and what not to capitalize. --♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 02:42, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Done! And a bit strange...-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 06:16, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

The spacing isn't quite right, and I notice one typo still; btw, is hongkonger the proper term? I want you to find the mistakes. In addition, I want you to work on your phrasing. We can continue using the example paragraph. When writing, there are often many ways of saying a particular fact or idea, and some of them can be wrong or unusual (such as if you use run-ons). Your whole paragraph has only four sentences, but some are quite long. Try rewriting it for maximum flow between ideas. Only connect things in sentences that actually have to do with each other, and get rid of what isn't that necessary. ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 12:40, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

I'm really sorry, that's all i can do. I do best in writing at cyclone and plant articles. Besides, Hongkonger is a proper term. Everybody says it here.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 05:22, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

You have to be a good writer all around. Did you not see the typo? Also, as I said before, there are some spacing issues. Those are basic things that you will have to fix, even in cyclone and plant articles. Also, even if Hongkonger is used, you don't have consistency whether you capitalize it or not. These are small issues, but it's the small things that add up to big problems. Why won't you go through once more, get rid of the unnecessary parts, fix up, make the capitalization consistent? ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 12:41, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

(to be replied by Hink) I'm sorry, i just can't do it. And can you please give me permission to update, add images of tropical cyclones? Two cyclones are now simultaneously forming in the Indian ocean, one in the north, and one in the south. Besides, i did well in this edit. I need to expand it, but i couldn't do anything without your permission. To me, there is now no difference then being blocked. I am not blocked, but i can't edit articles without your permission.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 04:42, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

(waiting for your reply) (to be replied by Hink) Hink, i've got a great idea! Why not give me a week to be free to edit articles (i'll ask you when i'm not sure)

and after that, make some conclusions and decisions about me. (Reasons:

  • There are many things that I am sure, and I have never got into trouble with.
  • I'm not always on the computer, but when I'm using it, so I would really like to contribute and edit things.
  • I'll guarantee that i'll ask you if it is okay, when i wish to do an edit that i'm not sure is okay.

-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 13:13, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

No, I'm sorry. The point of mentoring is that you learn how to be a better Wikipedian. This is a really basic first lesson, and I'm concerned you can't do something as simple as fixing spacing and capitalization. Why would I trust you to edit regular articles then? ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 15:19, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Well, give me a week to be free as stated above, before making better decisions. It's now no different than being blocked.

I'm not always on the computer but now, even when i am on it, i can't use that time to do something. I's really sad to know when only making a contribution without mentor's permission, will get you blocked indefinitely. I did good writing here, and i believe i can do more. Really, i think you should really give me a week to be free. I really have something to do.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 05:05, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Your edits to that article were not well written. Despite copying and pasting from the source, you still managed to make multiple errors, which were subsequently corrected here. But even if you managed to find some small error-free edit, it would be exceptional because your typical edits are messy.
As far as I'm concerned, this is your last warning. If you continue to fight with your mentor, I will reblock you, and that will be an end to it, at least for six months. Anyone can learn to write, but it takes time, and the amount of time varies from person to person. If you're unwilling to make the effort or you feel it's just too hard, that's certainly a decision you're free to make, but then you won't be able to edit here. And I don't want to argue with you about this.-- Bbb23 ( talk) 10:04, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Earth, consider as if the above was written by me. You won't be editing anytime soon, so stop asking. Editing is a privelige, and if you want to edit freely again, you need to work a bit harder on improving yourself. It's discouraging you can't even finish the first lesson, which was supposed to be done days ago. ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 13:05, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Okay Hink, tell me what to do.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 02:29, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
OK, go through that paragraph again, and fix the capitalization and spacing errors, as well as any other problems you see. --♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 03:43, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

And Hink can you please at least give me permission to update the satellite images of tropical cyclones? First, no, stop asking to edit about images. You will not be editing until you've progressed enough with your lessons. Second, do you really mean to talk about the furry of Typhoon Vicente? Furry means having to do with fur (like animal hair). I think you mean fury here. Next, is there a reason you have no space after Vicente and before (2012)? These are small things, but small edits add up to make for bad writing. Does anything that I said make sense? ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 16:46, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

April 30 2013 reqest

Please approve.

Hink, please approve me to do the following:

  • To update the image of Tropical Cyclone Zane in the 2012–13 Australian region cyclones season
  • To expand, (and later add images to the gallery) the Choi Sum article, but this time, i'll type it in my own text. After that, you are free to check my editing and make further improvements.
  • To expand the Tropical Cyclone Imelda section in the 2012–13 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season article.
  • To expand, clean up the Passiflora coccinea article. (I will later also add a gallery and replace the image with a better one).

Thank You.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 05:10, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Last chance: withdraw this request, or I reblock you. No more discussion. If you don't want to even try to follow the program, we're all wasting our time. Qwyrxian ( talk) 05:20, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Wait wait wait! What program, and am i supposed to follow Hink's instructions? He order me to make request here. -- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 05:41, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Hink asked you to do "Lesson 1", the section right above this. Look, Earth, we're trying to be helpful. For the time being, you should ignore every other page on Wikipedia and just focus on what's posted here. Do the lessons that Hink gives you, and don't even think about editing articles. You're still a long way from getting close to doing edits to articles. This focus on getting more things approved isn't helping anything. Inks.LWC ( talk) 05:54, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Please Inks, Hink is my adopter, and it is supposed that Hink should be giving the exact orders to me.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 12:55, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Earth, you need to be a little more observant. Scroll up on this page. Although I am your mentor, other people are looking out for you, so you shouldn't ignore their advice either. No, I don't approve any of your edit requests. ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 15:06, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

So what should i do now? I thought as others said you were to approve that!-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 15:37, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

No, I only approve it if I feel you should make those edits. Have you not been reading what anyone else has been saying? We have a mentorship program going, in which I set the rules, not you. Scroll up and complete the first exercise, please. --♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 15:44, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

I'm really really sorry that I let down on everybody, but I have now done what I was supposed to do. All that messages just made me confused until now, and again, i'm sorry.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 02:32, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Lesson Two - policy

As you know, Wikipedia's policies are vital to keeping the encyclopedia and its processes alive. An experienced editor, particularly administrators, are expected to know at least the basics of many policies, ideally all of them. Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines is a good place to start. The core content policies are especially important, and include Wikipedia:V, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV. So, here are some questions that will tell your level of policy knowledge (don't cheat!).

  • What is your interpretation of WP:V, in your own words? To double check whether the information is true and comes from a reliable source.
  • What is your interpretation of WP:NOR, in your own words? It means i cannot add any information without a reliable source or information obtained by my own research.
  • What is your interpretation of WP:NPOV, in your own words? It means you can not write the article to a point where it says one or another side of view is correct. You have to write both information in a way that allows the viewers to make the decision.
  • What is WP:BLP? Writing about a detailed description or account of a living person's life.
  • What do you feel is Wikipedia's most important policy? For me it's NOR, as it is the policy which most guarantees that information obtained is real.

As i said, i'm not always on the computer, and recently i got more work to do, so i need time to answer that.

But i would really appreciate that i could this time in a better way.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 14:36, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Earth, you do have a few days to answer this as Hink is away for at least the rest of the week (though checking in from time to time). Jason Rees ( talk) 15:18, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Take your time Earth and answer as best as you can. (I'm writing this from the top of a mountain... I'm a wikipediaholic). ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 18:10, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
You shouldn't be drinking alcohol or Wikipedia at high altitudes - very dangerous.-- Bbb23 ( talk) 23:12, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
I have never, and will never drink alcohol in my entire life!!!-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 11:13, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
Heh, no prob. So, just answer the above questions as best as you can. ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 12:50, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

Just checking in. How are you doing with the above? ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 15:18, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

I'm now worried i can't answer some of it, and i can't contribute any articles!! Damn, look at the Indian ocean and the eastern pacific.

All i could do is to watch em' spin up on satellite imagery, and do NOTHING on Wikipedia. I now have a very low mood on Wikipedia after all this ups and downs, and i'm look forward to retirement if things are still bad. -- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 02:09, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Well, give it a shot. Read those policies, the links are right there. Might I also recommend that when you type responses, you make sure everything is spelled right and with proper grammar (namely, make sure you capitalize "I"). Cheers, --♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 04:02, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
Done.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 05:25, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Lesson three

Let's work on writing a bit. I want you to pick any storm, and I wanna see you write the description of it, as if it were in a season article. That means, keep it fairly on the short side, but maintain all of the important info. Make sure you add sourcing in, too. --♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 18:27, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

Okay, i'll do it when I have time.

And i'm 100% sure I can edit Wikipedia without you. Please, can you double think? -- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 14:15, 3 June 2013 (UTC) (To be answered by nobody else except Hink.)

Well, I'll answer anyway. I'm no 100% sure you can edit Wikipedia on your own without returning to your bad habits and getting blocked again. ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 15:04, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
@Earthlink, first, you don't get to dictate who comments here. Second, it's not clear to me that you can edit at Wikipedia even with Hink's help. My gosh, after being told I don't know how many times to capitalize the word "I", you still can't get it right. Finally, as I have told you before, your continued pushing to edit before Hink thinks you're ready is not appropriate. Don't do it again.-- Bbb23 ( talk) 00:36, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I'll follow your instructions.

I just too unhappy for seeing many things that I could have done to help.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 05:33, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Hink just wait, I'm working on your lesson 3 request...Please wait...-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 05:34, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Hink I've got a problem. I want to write about Tropical Storm Yagi (2013), but I could not find a source for JMA upgrading it to a TD.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 05:45, 10 June 2013 (UTC) What should i do?

Try looking on the Seasonal Talkpage. Jason Rees ( talk) 12:58, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
That's what I was going to say. Earth, when you're ready, go ahead and make your own section below here. I want you to focus on writing mostly, not sourcing yet. Also, with regards to this, you are still not allowed to edit on mainspace. You were blocked and are going through a mentorship program. ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 13:25, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Just asking, can I cancel my adoption? -- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 05:21, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
I am 100% sure that i can be on my own for at least a month.-- ✯Earth100✯ (talk✉) 05:23, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Earth, you've had three lessons, all of which you've taken a long time on. You've already broken your mentoring agreement that you wouldn't edit, and it seems you have zero willing to learn how to be a better editor. Given that you're in such a huge hurry again, it seems like you haven't really learned much at all. You are just going to make the same poor editing choices without having the patience to learn what's right. To answer your question, no, you can't cancel your adoption. If other users feel you are ready, then they will allow you to start editing on a preliminary basis (in which all of your edits would be heavily scrutinized), but there would still be oversight. I was quite disappointed when I read what you asked. I've barely asked you to do anything significant yet. Ugh. Anyone else wanna take this? ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 13:11, 11 June 2013 (UTC)--♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 13:11, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
You may cancel the adoption, Earth100, but if you do, you will be reblocked until you enter into another adoption. Personally, I think it's unlikely that any one else will accept you, since you haven't shown a real willingness to try here, but I suppose anything is possible. Being mentored was a condition of the unblock, and is in no way optional. We can't tell if you're ready for to edit mainspace, because you haven't gotten around to the real core of the mentoring. So, your call, as always. I'm overlooking the one mainspace edit, since it was harmless and I felt that reblocking for that would be excessive. But not undergoing mentoring is not an option. Qwyrxian ( talk) 14:03, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Frankly, I think this is hopeless. Every millimeter of progress Earth makes is offset by a persistent unwillingness to do the work assigned by his mentor and repeated requests to edit. I'm not going to unilaterally block him, but if it was up to me, I would. Too much time is being spent here, most of which is wasted. The largest burden, of course, falls on Hink.-- Bbb23 ( talk) 00:33, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Given how little time he actually spends on here, it's not a huge burden, since it seems that Earth is taking his time to make it look like he's improving more and spending more time under mentorship. It's not a blanket rule that if you're a mentee for two months, then you're good. Earth, you actually have to follow the lessons and dedicate yourself to become a better user. We have seen none of that behavior. I'll leave it up to Earth. If you want me to still mentor you, then we'll continue. If you want someone else, then you'll be blocked until you can find another person. --♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 15:54, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
