Is there anybody working with this template who could help me with some explanations about how it works? — pd_THOR | =/\= | 22:10, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
I suggest that the link for "alias-ice hockey" is changed. Currently, it causes a redirect: "Canada national men's ice hockey team" redirects to "Canada men's national ice hockey team". I suggest that the mw parameter is moved further back in the string to avoid that. (Besides, what's "national men"?)
And maybe the default value should be empty, and the "Canada national ice hockey team" could be a dab page, presenting the alternatives: men's and women's (including junior variants).

The navy link points to Canadian Forces Maritime Command, whereas it should now be to Royal Canadian Navy. Similar changes presumably apply to the other forces. - David Biddulph ( talk) 03:51, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

The Government of Canada has changed the names of Canadian Forces Maritime Command, Canadian Forces Air Command and Canadian Forces Land Force Command to Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force, and Canadian Army respectively, as they were prior to the unification of the forces in 1968. The template needs to reflect this change accordingly.
From this
| link alias-naval = {{#if:{{{variant|}}}|Royal Canadian Navy|Canadian Forces Maritime Command}} | link alias-air force = {{#if:{{{variant|}}}|Royal Canadian Air Force|Canadian Forces Air Command}} | link alias-army = Canadian Forces Land Force Command
to this
| link alias-naval = Royal Canadian Navy | link alias-air force = Royal Canadian Air Force | link alias-army = Canadian Army

File:Canadian Air Command flag.svg
was moved to Royal Canadian Air Force ensign.svg
on Commons, and apparently image redirects don't work. The line to change is | flag alias-air force =
. Thanks - —

There is something wrong with the setup for the flag for the Canadian Air Force in {{ Country data Canada }}; it appears to be missing (showing up as a red-link/junk text) on the document page.
I believe, from a quick search of Commons, that the image should be File:Royal Canadian Air Force ensign.svg, but I'm not quite sure where it's missing from in this template.

Our official national flag until 1965 is still the Union Jack. The Red Ensign was not official, and when we had the opportunity to make it official, we opted for the Maple Leaf flag, the "new" flag as I still call it.
So, there should logically be an "official" parameter that outputs the correct official flag, the Union Jack, with
Canada beside that, and not Britain.
Seems reasonable, eh?

1867 is not currently assigned; 1868 is.
Perfect. Assign 1867 to the Union Jack which is in fact correct, and any time that we, or even me, needs to invoke the official flag, we can ask for 1867 and get the right thing.
I am now using the official flag 3 or 4 times on the short films page.

Above I have discussed the requirement for an 1867 variant to return Canada's pre-1965 official flag, the Union Jack.
The official flag prior to 1965 is the British flag; the flags defined here now were commonly used but were unofficial.
Because 1867, the year of Canadian Confederation, is not currently assigned, 1867 could be used to return the Union Jack.

The soccer line needs addtions/changes so that it properly relinks. Can it be changed to men's ? Thank you so much. That way links such as those on 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup will properly redirect to Canada women's national under-20 soccer team. 14:21, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

It is requested that, in addition to the RCAF, RCN and Army flags, the flag for the Canadian Armed Forces (File:Canadian Forces Flag.svg) be added. The image of 1868, 1921, and 1957 flags have broken since the pages had been moved to File:Canadian Red Ensign (1921–1957).svg, File:Canadian Red Ensign (1957–1965).svg, and File:Canadian Red Ensign (1868–1921).svg. Flix11 ( talk) 16:46, 25 April 2018 (UTC)

I suggest we change the Canada flag output from the standard colour version to the Pantone colour version featured on the Canada and Flag of Canada articles. The Pantone version is closer to the colour used at sporting events, political summits, and other events where Canada is represented, hence why it is used on the aforementioned articles. Remove:
flag alias-1841 = Flag of the United Kingdom (WFB 2000).svg
flag alias-1965 = Flag of Canada (WFB 2000).png
flag alias-2004 = Flag of Canada (WFB 2004).gif
and
var1 = 1841
var9 = 1965
var10 = 2004
These flags are just based on the shades used in pictures in different editions of the CIA World Factbook and not are official or even real changes to the flag used by Canada, they should not be included and especially not linked to a specific year
Also change the
alias = Canada
flag alias = Flag of Canada.svg
to:
alias = Canada
flag alias = Flag of Canada (pantone).svg
after consensus on
Talk Page and
This one,
article, and government specifications:
https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/flag-canada-description.html#a4
The flags using these aliases will autorevert to the default flag, which is correct, so nothing will break from this change
Code for this change is on the template page sandbox

There is currently a disagreement over what flag should be used to represent the Royal Canadian Navy in the
Battle of the St. Lawrence. The 1921 template here creates
Royal Canadian Navy, featuring the Canadian Blue Ensign (naval jack). @
Llammakey: insists that we use 1911 template which creates
Royal Canadian Navy, featuring the White Ensign (naval ensign), despite the fact that the 1921 template is used across all other Canadian WWII articles, including this one. To prevent an edit war I'd like to have this cleared up here, as a single article is not the place to have a discussion on the use of a Wikipedia-wide template. The only way the White Ensign should be used is if the 1921 template adopts it's use instead of the Blue Ensign. We can't have individual editors unilaterally applying flag templates from the wrong historical era because they disagree with the Country data template.
