Developments in outlying areas Southwest of
Buckhead as far North as Bolton are sometimes given Midtown West designation. However it would probably be more appropriate to call some of them West Buckhead due to their geographic locations. Nevertheless, since the boundaries can either be considered created by realtors and developers or by the boundaries of the most recent gentrification in that area within areas of similar character and adjoining geographies, then it is appropriate to list Bolton, Blandtown, Berkely Park and Hills Park for now (collectively part of Neighborhood Planning Unit "D"). These areas are North of West Marietta Street and Atlantic Station along wither Howell Mill, Chattahoochee Plantation, or Marietta Blvd and include a combination of single family neighborhoods, warehouses/brownstones, loft communities all recently gentrifying. It is reasonable to assume that if gentrification continues and no association is formed, some of these neighborhoods may in the future may join the
Buckhead community. However, for now, there are developments cropping up with the Midtown West name in these areas. [1][2]
Too commercial
The second paragraph sounds too much like a brochure, but I'll leave that up to someone else to clean up.
Brownstones
What 19th century brownstones is the author talking about? There are NO 19th century brownstones still in existence in Atlanta, except
Baltimore Block. This needs to be changed.

This article smells of developer advertising
First off, "Midtown West" is a neologism of the past five or so years... more exactly the past five or so years of condo naming. Second, this name just... nobody uses it! This side of town has been referred to as "Westside" for years! I am so tired of politicians renaming the streets in Atlanta and developers renaming the neighborhoods. So easily is history tossed aside in the name of a quick buck! —Preceding

Changing to Westside
The vast majority of news sources and such have reflected the desire of the residents that the neighborhood be referred to as Westside. I'm making those changes. I'll start pointing to other news sources as soon as I have the ability to move the page, etc..

I appreciate your conclusion that the "vast majority" of residents call the area the Westside, but I have several issues with this before we proceed to rename everything:
1. You need to provide clear references which show that the most common name for this area is the Westside. The area that I mean, and which the article is about is the Home Park - Atlantic Station - Loring Park - Georgia Tech - Westside Provisions area. NOT the entire west side of Atlanta.
2. I think that if there is not a clear preference of name for THAT area (West Midtown), then we should keep the article name as West Midtown, because "Westside" is *definitely* often used to mean the entire western side of Atlanta (look at the
BeltLine Westside Trail which is more about areas like Bankhead than West Midtown).
3. I do not believe residents refer to the area as "Westside" without the "the". —

Here is a map which is a great example of where the BeltLine, an important organization in the city, uses "Westside" to mean the entire west side of the city, *not* West Midtown.

Anyone who says The in front of Westside is just utilizing poor grammar - you don't for example say The Manhattan or The Atlanta. More direct comparisons are The Buckhead and The Virginia-Highland (which people often mislabel as Virginia Highlands). I see that you have made significant content changes to the article from the version that was in place when i started (
https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=West_Midtown&oldid=622832034). Atlantic station and Loring park, per the version that was in place, are not part of the neighborhood. But regardless, sites like the AJC, Eater/Curbed, Yelp, and many others refer to it as Westside. Outside of the beltline, which has simply misappropriated a term, I don't think it's reasonable to say that Westside is tantamount to saying "Everything on the west side of atlanta" just as nobody refers to everything eastward as Eastside ... they would simply say east side of atlanta. I would appreciate an invitation to discussion or the attempts at discussion before you went through and undid all of my work.

Also, I don't see how that map, which includes areas far south of the area of discussion is relevant here.

I think that if you look at my recent edits to the article under the new section "Name" and you'll see that my points above are vindicated by real life examples - plenty of links I have provided to check out. The BeltLine and Invest Atlanta both use "Westside" to mean the entire west side of the city... Plenty of sources use "West Midtown" and plenty of sources use, as you say, "Westside". It's very interesting that you say that people would contstruct a sentence, for example, "I live in Westside"... I have never heard that in the years I have lived in Atlanta. But let's not argue on hearsay, let's go by what the reliable sources use as the most common name of the district. If you can come up with more reliable sources that prove my point wrong, and we can gain consensus on this talk page, by all means it can change from what it is now.

I really think the BeltLine is the major outlier here. Two more organizations are adopting Westside: Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau (seen here:
http://www.atlanta.net/explore/neighborhoods/) and Google Maps. --

Requested move
The following is a closed discussion of a
requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a
move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Not moved. The proposed target,
Westside, Atlanta, is not a redirect to this one but is a freestanding article on a related topic. One option would be a conventional merge in which the material in this article gets merged into
Westside, Atlanta. Such a merge would require talk page consensus but not another RM.

Or the current
Westside, Atlanta could be moved to
Westside, Atlanta (disambiguation) if this neighborhood is the
WP:primary topic for the term "Westside" in metro Atlanta. If it is not the PT, then a parenthetical disambiguator would need to be used, e.g.,
Westside, Atlanta (West Midtown). As it seems from sources used in the article, and clearly explained in
West Midtown § Name, there doesn't seem to be a clear public consensus on the name of the neighborhood. As moving this would require additional work to update related templates and articles, perhaps best to give it some time to see whether a more clear public consensus emerges.

I have applied this template due to a discussion with
User:ATLResident who would like to see the article title changed to Westside. Through this process we can have the discussion on this page and come to a conclusion. However I personally oppose this name change
Keizers (

Oppose: Although both "West Midtown" and "Westside" are used as names for this district, and in my observation in equal measure, "Westside" can also mean the entire west side of Atlanta. The name West Midtown is used by the neighbors' association in
Home Park, the largest constituent neighborhood,[3] and by the West Midtown Business Association.[4]
"Westside" referring to West Midtown only, is used by Not for Tourists[5] and
Westside Provisions, a privately-run commercial district.
However, "Westside" meaning other areas in the west side of Atlanta, or the entire west side (
southwest Atlanta,
northwest Atlanta), is used by the
BeltLine[6] and by Invest Atlanta, the City of Atlanta Economic Development Authority.[7]
Support: Westside is the more common moniker used by the media and locals.--

Comment Should "West Midtown" remain to redirect to the article if it isn't moved? Is this the primary topic? I would think that Manhattan would be the primary topic of "West Midtown" --

and why would that be? Only if you Google the term (from a third location) and get far more results for NYC. AFAIK West Midtown is not the actual name of a neighborhood (it is named Hell's Kitchen) but more of a geographic descriptor.

Comment: Doing a bit more research, I see that Creative Loafing has been giving preference to "Westside" for the past couple of years, while "Eater" changed from "West Midtown" to "Westside" a couple of months ago. Perhaps changing to Westside is ok, but then the geographic definition of the district would be a bit more vague. Invest Atlanta and
some other organizations are using "Westside" for the English Avenue / Vine City (a.k.a. The Bluff) area; while the BeltLine uses the general "West side of the city" definition. Lacking an official definition, I think the article would then have to mention that according to some, "Westside" also by some definitions includes The Bluff (cough cough). I'm good with that if everyone else is.
