This article is more or less a stub, so there's a lot of development to do here. I've redone the Infobox in the upper right-hand corner, following the same format as many other cities (see
Richmond, Virginia,
Norfolk, Virginia, and
Louisville, Kentucky as examples.
One thing that should be added to the Infobox is a picture of the city flag, if someone can find that.
As the two major cities in the
Hampton Roads metropolitan area, I think
Norfolk and
Virginia Beach should stand out and have the most information overall. They're almost like the twin cities of
Minnesota, although they're not called that. But there is a lot of overlap in infrastructure, culture, climate, etc. So we need to consider carefully the quality of these two cities first, before we get into many of the other cities of
Hampton Roads. But ultimately, all cities should overall agree with each other in format, style, and accuracy.
A suggested organization for the major sections of this article might be:
History
Geography and Climate
Cityscape
Climate
Pronunciation
People and Culture - Perhaps the culture section could link to a separate article on the culture of
Hampton Roads in general, since a lot of culture seems to overlap with other cities.
Demographics
Annual cultural events and fairs
Museums and Art Collections
Media
Parks and Outdoor Attractions
Performing Arts
Sports
Economy
Infrastructure
Government
Education
Transportation
Utilities
Sister cities
See also - links to various lists (famous celebrities, mayors, schools, etc)
I see a problem in the section "Demographics" and in the subsection "Religion". The specified source provides different information than the section in the article. The article states, for example, that 28% of the population would be Catholics. The source stated that 10.7% of the population are Catholics.

English is not my native language and I am rarely active on the English Wikipedia. That's why I thought it would be better for people who write articles in this subject area to do so. The only thing I noticed is that the information about the denominations is very strange for the situation in Virginia. But since no one has actually revised this article, I will try my hand at it. --

The following is a closed discussion of a
requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a
move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: not moved. Proposed move is clearly in violation of
WP:USPLACE.
WP:RMCI is very clear that proposals that do not align with guidelines need to be closed as "not moved" regardless of the number of supporters, absent a very good reason to
WP:IAR.
WP:IAR was invoked here by one supporter, but I do not find the reason provided to be "very good" in this case. (

Oppose The AP stylebook lists 30 cities that don't need the state alongside, and Virginia Beach isn't one of them. Unless
WP:USPLACE is changed, this article should stay.

Would you mind linking the AP stylebook? I cannot find it anywhere online.

I actually don't see a working link there, though the cities are listed in the references. I did find the relevant info
here as well.

Strong oppose per USPLACE. O.N.R.(talk) 01:38, 12 January 2024 (UTC)reply
Support, we've done it elsewhere.
New York City,
Chicago,
Seattle,
Los Angeles,
Boston,
Atlanta, even internationally with
Toronto,
London,
Auckland. It's no different here. There isn't any other city, nationwide, called "Virginia Beach" per
GNIS. I will concede that there are two beaches called Virginia Beach, one in Miami-Dade and one in Nevada (though this one is due to it's location near the historic Virginia City, Nevada). That said, the only city place name is Virginia Beach, Virginia. Thus, we can safely name it
Virginia Beach. -

Please review the overarching guideline
WP:USPLACE. PEr
WP:LOCALCONSENSUS, we cannot make this change on this page. If you want to change the guideline, we need to do it at USPLACE.

I don't need that headache. But if USPLACE is so "overarching" and LOCALCONSENSUS backs it up, then all of the pages I mentioned above (US only) should be renamed accordingly. Can't enforce the rules here and ignore them over there. Just sayin'. I do stand by my !vote, though. -

USPLACE uses the AP stylebook as its guideline, and that manual allows for 30 cities – including the (American) ones you mentioned – to be listed sans state name. Virginia Beach is not included amongst them. There's no conflict of rules enforcement.

Comment Per
WP:LOCALCONSENSUS we cannot override
WP:USPLACE on this page. This discussion should be a
WP:SNOW close and users who support a change can begin a discussion at the overall guideline page.
glman (

To the contrary, we can, per IAR, and must first make moves like this per local consensus before changing the guideline. I explained why years ago, here:

Support per nom and applying
WP:IAR to USPLACE, which has created untold ambiguity and confusion (like this nom) in title decision-making due to its contradiction of
WP:CONCISE. —
В²C☎ 06:57, 18 January 2024 (UTC)reply
Leaning support though I don't think it can be done per
WP:USPLACE as that says its common usage though this may be a good idea to ignore it like Colorado Springs though unlike Colorado Springs there are other places, see
