The once-attached (now deleted) picture is not one of USS Laffey DD-724, but is of the earlier Laffey DD-459, sunk during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. This is evident because of the penant number on the bow. I looked at http://www.history.navy.mil but they do not have a picture of DD-724. Mike 17:26, 19 September 2007 (UTC) reply

I found a US Navy picture of the actual DD-724 at http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/ships/destroyers/ddhist3.html and the URL for the picture is http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/ships/destroyers/dd724-laffey.jpg I would love to add it myself to the page, however I am unsure of how to do this. You would start by opening an account at Commons, separate from Wikipedia. Assuming the picture is in the public domain, you'd upload it there, then link from here. doncram ( talk) 21:03, 22 March 2008 (UTC) reply

Kamikaze Assault

Porbably should have asked this before adding it, but does Laffey's having survived attacks from the largest kamikaze formation in history deserve to have its own heading? Magus732 ( talk) 22:33, 6 February 2009 (UTC) reply

I agree. Also, I've patched up the grammar and style of the section (which was mostly added after 13:03, 22 December 2010 by DebtMan ( talk), but the sheer amount of basic grammatical errors, excessive detail (possibly 'created' by the author) and lack of references makes one dubious of its reliability. Still, I'll go with it for the time being. Thomas Yen ( talk) 17:14, 8 January 2011 (UTC) reply

Coordinate error

{{geodata-check}}

The following coordinate fixes are needed for USS Laffey Coordinates 32 51 09N 79 56 41W

no Declined as I can't find a source for this. Would you take a look at Obtaining Geographical Coordinates and then relist this request along with an explanation of the source for the coordinates? You can relist it by merely removing the "tlc|" from the {{geodata check}} tag, above? Regards, TransporterMan ( TALK) 18:10, 7 December 2011 (UTC) reply

Returning Home

A new article about the Laffey came out today on our local news. Doesn't seem to have any specifics on when the ship will be reberthed, so I dunno how helpful it is, but I thought the folks here would be interested. 161.225.196.111 ( talk) 22:29, 25 January 2012 (UTC) reply

Thanks. I've updated the article with info on the ships return. Sector001 ( talk) 18:30, 26 January 2012 (UTC) reply

U.S. Presidential Unit Citation

The U.S. Presidential Unit Citation page doesn't mention the fact that the USS Laffey (DD-724) received a citation, only that the USS Laffey (DD-459) received one... Possibly an error? Wasteland Software ( talk) 05:59, 18 April 2012 (UTC) reply

In Popular Culture

The mention of Laffey in Azur Lane isn't right, as the Laffey portrayed there is the older one, DD-459... perhaps it would be better to just remove that line from the article, or maybe place it on the USS Laffey (DD-459) page, if it isn't already there? 77.54.5.36 ( talk) 23:17, 22 May 2019 (UTC) reply

Recently she was added to the game. I have added the the mention in In Popular Culture again. I might as well add it to DD-459 as well. SaoriMacaroni ( talk) 21:28, 31 January 2024 (UTC) reply
