Design

This article would benefit from an improved layout. However, please do not remove citations or factual material unless the purpose of the edit is to provide more current data or correct errors of fact. Uncited material or text which reads like an advertisement would be challenged. User192345 ( talk) 23:05, 19 May 2009 (UTC) reply

Wikipedia Vandalism Policy

"Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism. Even harmful edits that are not explicitly made in bad faith are not vandalism. For example, adding a controversial personal opinion to an article once is not vandalism; reinserting it despite multiple warnings is (however, edits/reverts over a content dispute are never vandalism, see WP:EW). Not all vandalism is obvious, nor are all massive or controversial changes vandalism. Careful thought may be needed to decide whether changes made are beneficial, detrimental but well-intended, or outright vandalism."

Content additions are welcomed; however, Wikipedia is not an advertising service. It is not intended as non-controversial promotion content for the article's subject matter. Wholesale undo edits that remove factual content are themselves vandalism, and are in turn subject to being UNDONE. SCC and VCC are two of the largest schools in the country and are rivals. Nevertheless, VCC has higher graduation rates in nearly every demographic group. This is fact, not opinion. Students deserve access to this data. Analysis of fact is not a personal opinion, as opinion is subjective and fact is not. Please DISCUSS edits on the talk page and consult Wikipedia standards.

User192345 has inserted a number of edits into this page that are misleading and factually incorrect. I can see that a comparison of Central Florida community colleges would be useful to some students, but this should be set up in a separate page that is also accessible to other community college pages. Would encourage User192345 create this graduation page.

>This article had been previously flagged as an "advertisement," quite possibly because it had been written by the college. It is helpful to note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and should thus contain statistics and data of the kind found in similar reference works. Most paper and electronic reference works on colleges have copious statistical and comparative data. User192345 ( talk) 10:55, 19 July 2009 (UTC) reply

Error 1: "SCC is one of two community colleges serving Central Florida." There are five or more community colleges depending on the geographical definition.

>This has been addressed with a newer edit. User192345 ( talk) 10:19, 19 July 2009 (UTC) reply

Error 2: "SCC ranked second to last in Florida in terms of the top 100 community colleges." Fact: This is misleading. There were 16 community colleges ranked in the top 100 survey, but 28 CCs in Florida. This puts SCC in the middle of rankings (15th out of 28).

>The article has been edited to read "Academically, SCC ranked 13th out of 15 Florida community colleges in terms of the number of Associate's Degrees awarded within the top 100 community colleges in the United States." User192345 ( talk) 10:19, 19 July 2009 (UTC) reply
> http://www.ccweek.com/news/common/ccwtop100-09-GT-AS.pdf indicates that SCC has fallen in rank to 83 of 100 from 71. MLA citations in the article may be updated to reflect more current data at any time. User192345 ( talk) 10:44, 19 July 2009 (UTC) reply

Error No. 3: "SCC and VCC have comparable enrollments." Fact: SCC total enrollment for 07-08 was 30,642; VCC 59,770 [1].

>VCC Wikipedia was used as an enrollment source. Pending added MLA citations, the sentence in question is revised. User192345 ( talk) 10:44, 19 July 2009 (UTC) reply

Error No. 4: "Despite SCC's claim of being 'Central Florida's fastest growing community college . .. " Fact: Checked the page in question and do not see this mentioned. The most recent rankings (CC Week November 2008) Had SCC as the 11th fastest growing large community college in the U.S. [2] (growth of 9.4 percent). VCC did not rank, but Daytona State College was third.

>The sentence in question has been edited. As is the case with many Web pages, the data previously included on the page is no longer extant. The ephemeral nature of hyperlinks thus argues for the benfits of MLA citation format, at least until the article's fact content has "matured." User192345 ( talk) 10:44, 19 July 2009 (UTC) reply

For these above reasons, I am reverting to my earlier edits. Camerontory ( talk) 03:05, 16 July 2009 (UTC) reply

Revisions of 16 July have been undone on 18 July, for grounds stated above. "You should follow the (citation) style (MLA) already established in an article, if it has one. Where there is disagreement, the style used by the first editor to use one should be respected." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:CITE#HOW User192345 ( talk) 09:47, 19 July 2009 (UTC) reply
Camerontory would kindly note that his or her previous edits in June were tagged automatically as "blanking," a practice generally UNWELCOMED within Wikipedia and regarded as discourteous. This "blanking" or deletion of entire sections is at odds with the meaning of "editing." If Camerontory is an employee of the college, he or she would kindly state this conflict of interest. User192345 states that he is NOT an employee of any college or government agency, nor is he a student or alumnus of VCC. User192345 ( talk) 11:13, 19 July 2009 (UTC) reply
