Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond Catholic Diocese of Richmond – Roman Catholic is neither an official title of the Catholic Church nor is it the official name of the Diocese of Richmond ... Jpkenney2187 ( talk) 00:52, 31 August 2023 (UTC)— Relisting. —usernamekiran (talk) 03:35, 9 September 2023 (UTC) reply

Oppose- obviously, given the titles of every other article in the category mentioned by 162 etc. And if we really want to go with an "official" name, then technically this diocese belongs to the Latin Church (obviously this won't be Latin Diocese of Richmond. But I digress, and in any case we don't always go with 'official' names here. estar8806 ( talk) 02:03, 31 August 2023 (UTC) reply
Correct. This diocese does belong to the Latin Church, aka the western rite of Catholicism. The name needs to be accurate. Jpkenney2187 ( talk) 16:53, 4 September 2023 (UTC) reply
Didn't finish my reply...the accurate name is "Catholic Diocese of Richmond." Jpkenney2187 ( talk) 16:54, 4 September 2023 (UTC) reply
But here's the thing. We don't decide titles based on one person's perception of "accuracy" or even on accuracy at all. Although there are several policies at work when it comes to titles, the applicable one here is WP:COMMONNAME. If you wish to argue for your preferred name, you do it by showing that the preponderance of secondary independent sources describe the subject by your preferred name. 4.37.252.50 ( talk) 09:09, 6 September 2023 (UTC) reply

Visiting their official webpage displays their official name. Anything other than what it is officially called by them is inaccurate. Jpkenney2187 ( talk) 17:18, 6 September 2023 (UTC) reply
That's not how things work here. The current president of the United States has the official name Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., but the entry for him is listed as Joe Biden. We don't follow official names here because in many circumstances that could lead to unrecognizable titles. estar8806 ( talk) 17:22, 6 September 2023 (UTC) reply

Oppose - agree with User:Estar8806 for reasons given. RC sources seem to be using "Catholic"; while secular use "Roman Catholic". Manannan67 ( talk) 06:37, 11 September 2023 (UTC) reply
