Map in species box

Quercus virginiana does extend into some areas of southeastern Texas, but not all of the areas shown in Texas have native Q. virginiana. Also, every patch in Mexico and Oklahoma is invalid; these and the invalid areas of Texas have Quercus fusiformis, a closely-related and much more cold-hardy species. The map needs to be updated to reflect this, and perhaps a separate map showing the range of Q. fusiformis should be made for that article (which also includes the Norman, Oklahoma area). Even I was confused until I studied more closely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EvergreenLAM ( talkcontribs) 04:44, 21 March 2020 (UTC) reply

I'm not sure if I am doing this right, but a question as come up for discussion about the live oak trees. I was wonder why the live oak trees don't do like regular trees, such has the leaves changing color, or the trees don't go bare with the lack of leaves in the winter. I have lived here in the south and around live oak tree I have several in my yard. But at school, around the lunch table why these live oak trees don't lose their leaves in the fall. I know they just shed a few from time to time all year long. I noticed that the article the Wikipedia Encyclopedia classified the like oak as in the magnolia family. Anyone know why the live oak tree doesn't shed it leaves like the elm, or other trees? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kdminor ( talkcontribs)

Taxonomy section

Having 2 and 1/2 of the intro's 3 paragraphs be about taxonomy is excessive; I'm moving it down into its own section. - Draeco ( talk) 03:52, 15 October 2009 (UTC) reply

Does anyone have an image of the timber, and/or of an item dyed with live-oak dye? -- Badger151 ( talk) 11:17, 18 December 2015 (UTC) reply

Live Oak Shedding

I'm wondering what triggers the leaves to fall. Ours began here in Las Cruces NM yesterday Feb 8 and I'm wondering when others are shedding. 2601:8C1:8200:8480:E4B2:3302:89A6:F64A ( talk) 18:36, 9 February 2023 (UTC) reply
