Montreal Expos was a Sports and recreation good articles nominee, but did not meet the
good article criteria at the time. There may be suggestions below for improving the article. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be
renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.
Various proposals have been made to eliminate the Montreal Expos article and redirect it to the Washington Nationals article, for the following reasons:
As the Washington Nationals franchise is the same as the Montreal Expos franchise, a page with the name "Montreal Expos" overlaps with the Washington Nationals article. Other topics that are the same, such as
Cassius Clay and
Muhammad Ali, have a single page.
The following reasons for keeping the Montreal Expos article separate have been raised:
The Washington Nationals article would be too unwieldy if the entire Expos history was included. Therefore, in accordance with
summary style, splitting out a sub-article with information on the Expos is a natural division.
The topic "Montreal Expos" has independent notability from its franchise, with historical and cultural context that is easier to describe separately from the historical context of Washington baseball.
If the Expos and Nationals were covered by one article, following
Wikipedia's guidance on giving appropriate weight to different periods of history, the Washington Nationals article would be dominated with Expos information. This may be contrary to the desires of the Nationals' readership.
Various proposals have been made to rename the Montreal Expos article to another name, such as "History of the Montreal Expos", for the following reasons:
Consistency with other teams that have moved (see list above).
The topic of the "Montreal Expos" has a greater scope, such as cultural influence, than is typically covered in a "History of..." article.
Proposals to redirect "Montreal Expos", if the current article is moved to a different name
It has been proposed that after renaming the "Montreal Expos" article, "Montreal Expos" should redirect to "Washington Nationals", for the following reasons:
References to "Montreal Expos" are generally to the franchise, and so should redirect to the main article for the franchise.
Since the Washington Nationals franchise is the same as the Montreal Expos franchise, the term "Montreal Expos" should redirect to "Washington Nationals", just as
Cassius Clay redirects to
Muhammad Ali.
The following reasons for redirecting "Montreal Expos" to its renamed article have been raised:
References to "Montreal Expos" are generally within a context referring to the Montreal incarnation of the franchise, and so should redirect to the article dealing with this time period.

Sports landscape
Regarding
this edit: in itself, I agree that Bronfman's ownership of other teams is not a key fact for this article. However I think an assessment by Bronfman of the sports landscape in Montreal at the time might have some relevance, if a citation can be found. (It's not something I specifically remember being discussed at the time, but I may have missed it.)

No mention of the Tampa Bay Rays held a home-game series in Montreal in the summer of 2019. Not just the Blue Jays want an all-Canadian fan base, the Rays used Montreal like a summer home. Interestingly, we knew the Expos held home games in Puerto Rico in 2002-04 seasons, now the Blue Jays in the COVID pandemic uses Buffalo as their home field, other than it's their triple-A affiliate city. The shared city plan lasted one season though. <ref>

Tampa did not play any games in Montreal in 2019.

And TO in Buffalo is only due to the country not allowing baseball players in just to play baseball due to Covid. So not really the same situation at all. -

Keri (References)
I'm not understanding the Keri references...it points to a web article, but the footnotes are listing pages and pages. Can someone please explain, because this seriously doubts the citations. — Preceding

Hmm. It looks like an error in the citation template. The references in the form of "Keri, 2014, p. nnn" are supposed to link to the book listed in the general references section. However, since both the book and the Globe article are by the same author with the same publication year, it seems the citation template is simply assuming the first link it finds is the reference link. Have to admit, I don't quite remember how to fix this.

Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame
Regarding the note added for Larry Walker in
this edit and the similar note for Pedro Martinez: does anyone have sources indicating that these players were elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame "mainly" on the basis of their performances for the Rockies/Red Sox?
The hall of fame blog post on Martinez's induction cites Martinez's influence on baseball in Canada. With Walker being Canadian and a genuine star for the Expos, I don't think more explanation is required, particularly unsourced.
