Needs improvement on the type of information displayed. Some things already considered: Olympics, World Championships, Marathon Majors, etc. Other things to consider: career best, marathon victories, world records, etc.

Winner of 50 marathons in a row

Sorry, got a bit "lazy" with the example. Other rows similar as fashioned.

For a better example, I derived the table idea from
List_of_Pro_Football_Hall_of_Fame_inductees. Basically, the "fewer columns" the better. Yet, all the necessary/relevant info. is still included.

Though, if a table becomes too "bulky" horizontally, then other options would be the use of a "legend" and abbreviated table columns similar to here:
Chicago_Bears_Seasons. Use of color coding (e.g world records, etc) will help too.

I'm OK with whatever changes you think will work best. Cheers!

While I "purged" the previous table with the new table, this gave me a chance to get an idea/feeling as to what the new table would look like. Also, it did help looking through various articles on the Olumpics for medal symbols. Most of the tables were blank; so this gives a chance to populate table information one row at a time.

Some ideas/questions: Even though medals are not awarded for the WMM, do you think the medal icons should be used for top three finishes? The key could be reworded to state that represents a "
Gold medal in the
Olympics or
IAAF World Championships, or a first place finish in the
World Marathon Majors." Rather than use bold type, do you think it would be better to have a "World record holder" column with the beginning and ending dates of which it was held? I'm concerned that it will be difficult keeping track of or maintaining the actual number of marathon victories for various runners. Do you think it would be better to have the "1st" column reflect the number of victories in WMM events?

That "1st" column. Well, kinda aimed that to include marathons in general. While yea, with the literally 100's of marathons in existence nowadays, it's "easy" for some people to win marathons... at men's times, for example, of 2:30-3:00 still. In any major marathon, such a "winner" would have placed 50th or above.
While filling up the table, I looked at each one of the runner articles. That's really most of the "counting" came from; and thus,
WP:OR. Some have featured races like the
Fukuoka Marathon,
Amsterdam Marathon, or the
Houston Marathon. Races such as these have gotten a fair share of "elite" entries on their own. So, where to draw the line, I didn't know how to handle it other than accepting "across the board". Furthermore, many of the runners listed have either finished or are not at the peak of their running careers.
Another option would be to omit any marathon victories column and leave the "counting" up to the runner article themselves. Those who won an excemptional number of marathons; that info can be noted in the "other" column. Another thing to consider: every major marathon has its list of winners. It would be rather repetitive to list all of those runners in here. Eventually, this may end up as a "marathon champions/medalist" list, if any sort of narrowing down were to happen. But, that's a "wait and see".
As for the WMM, I don't see why not using the medal icons, even though they don't receive medals for overall placement in that competition. It'll be more clearer. Yet, it'll be strange that most of this column will be blank, but that cannot be helped.

Establishing notability
Might as well establish some kind of guideline for notability here. Obvious criteria fall under champions, record holders, etc. Other criteria include "unprecedented", such as
Andrea Cionna or "first women". And so on.

I'm not a fan of listing age-group record holders unless the person or performance has received significant coverage.

Given the vertical "stretch" of the article's table. There's plenty of room for more images.
