Length of festival

Just how long is this festival anyway? Online sources say it's two weeks, but for the life of me, it was shown as three weeks in a festival guide published by The Courier-Journal. Maybe I'm just insane.  :) —  Stevie is the man!  Talk | Work 04:48, 13 June 2006 (UTC) reply

Posters

I uploaded the 07 poster. Does anyone think we should have a poster gallery using the posters on the KDF website? Jcembree 19:37, 26 January 2007 (UTC) reply

Great Steamboat Race

Do you think we could make a separate article. I think there is enough outside reference material for it. I'll probably be working when it happens this year, so I can't take pictures, but I think such an article is doable. Heck, we even already have a redirect for it.-- Bedford 17:19, 27 April 2007 (UTC) reply

Fair use rationale for Image:2007KDFposter.jpg

Image:2007KDFposter.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image copyright problem with Image:Thunder2007.jpg

The image Image:Thunder2007.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Derby Cruising is too opinionated

This section is too editorial and does not take account any of the traditions of cruising among the black community during the derby festival. There should be some effort at research and balance made here. How long has cruising on Broadway been happening? What is the economic impact? Does it cost money to take part? Is it illegal? How important is cruising to the black community?

The section includes mentions of violent crime, but the rest of the Derby Festival entry does not. I find it hard to believe that all the rape or gun violence in Louisville during Derby Festival involves black residents and visitors to the city cruising on Broadway. If we post figures for one part of an event and not another we lose our neutrality. Visculture ( talk) 06:05, 10 April 2009 (UTC) reply

When the section was added, the editor indicated he was just writing it as a start - it was something that needed to be covered and wasn't at that point, it wasn't intended to be the definitive coverage of cruising. At any rate, the whole reason cruising became controversial was because of the rape and murder at the 2005 event, I believe. Maybe it wasn't fair of the media and police in your opinion to come down on cruising because of those vents, but that's how it went down. It is relevant to mention the rape and the homicide in 2005 because it lead to changes in official policy on cruising, which in turn lead to the public reaction. When crimes effect how Thunder over Louisville, the parade, or whatever, are run... then it's relevant to mention crimes when covering those topics as well. -- Chiliad22 ( talk) 14:22, 10 April 2009 (UTC) reply
I just added references... I think the section is pretty decent now. Adding more information about the history of cruising would be great, but I am not seeing that in the CJ archives. -- Chiliad22 ( talk) 14:35, 10 April 2009 (UTC) reply
