Bootlegs

No, it really wouldn't correct English (in ENGLAND) would be practice.
Wrong again. "Practise" in this example is the imperative form of the verb "to practise" and is therefore spelt with an s, as I did spell it. Are you arguing that it's not a verb, or that it is a verb and it should be 'practice'? Either way, in British English, you're wrong. (Practice would be right for an American.) Jack Johnson

What's the big deal with Jack Johnson? Everyone seems to love him at the moment, but I don't see what all the fuss is about, his songs are not that good, and the musical elements of the song aren't all that impressive either... Anybody like to tell me what's so good about him? Being a budding guitarist myself, I can't get excited about his music; it's too simple and not impressive at all. Can't people support truly skilled guitarists (for example, Mark Knopfler, Carlos Santana, etc.) instead of banging on about average Jack Johnson? --şмίғғч™

Much as I love Knopfler's work, he really doesn't seem to be all that interested in self-promotion (see: how he keeps disappearing from the spotlight, how he used to ask venues to turn their music down when they were starting out); Jack Johnson, on the other hand, is everywhere. "His songs are not that good" is a subjective opinion. Obviously a lot of people enjoy his music, it just doesn't apply to you. I'm sorry, but there were way to many opinions in that question. How can you call someone "average" when every artist has his/her own different style? And simplicity isn't a bad thing; I personally like simple music. And Jack Johnson's music is almost theraputic. If you're trying to get away from all the bad things going on in your life, you're not going to listen to someone who cusses every third word. You're going to listen to something mellow and calm. And don't imply that Jack Johnson isn't a skilled artist, because he is. And I agree with MoShaw; I envy his songwriting ability. I'm a young poet (which is not all that different from a songwriter) and I can tell that everything he writes comes from his heart (corny, I know, but I can't think of another way to put it). Did anybody notice that noone actually answered that person's question?

Well, as the above users pointed out, the only real, objective question posed was essentially "Why is Jack Johnson so popular when his music is so simple?" That's really a question of the majority's taste in music. Personally, I love simple music; I believe simplicity is what makes songs like "Seven Nation Army" stay in your head so long. However, not all of Jack Johnson's music is necessarily simple, and I like it all. I like Santana too; I have Supernatural on my iPod. Like I said though, it's really a question of the majority's taste. I think part of it is that, as you said you're a guitarist, so naturally you will appreciate more complex guitar music. Most people don't play instruments, so they appreciate simpler music (and generally despise classical). But that's just my opinion.

First off, I don't think it really matters why people like him, they just do. And it's "simple" music, just as some of the Beatle's melodies were very simple and the words even more so. Some times beauty comes in simplicity. Also, his voice is very nice, anyway I think so. It soothes me in a way few voices do. I don't see the point in dissing him in an encyclopedia talk page anyway. jack's music isnt supposed to be a guitar odyssey. i been playing guitar for 6 years now, and he's the reason i started...i will still play his music almost everytime i pick up my guitar. he just thinks of what sounds good. And he's not all that into self-promotion, and whatever money he recieves goes towards the environment or to the state of hawaii. the guy doesnt even own a tv. and his music wasnt supposed to make people argue or fight, it was just meant to sound good. Red House

Is it important to talk about Red House's set? It doesn't have any impact on the rest of the article. If I wanted to know if Red House liked Pink Floyd, I'd read the article about Red House. Just looking for permission to remove that. In fact, that whole little section is pointless. He told him to "hold up." Awesome. It's really not a very notable story.

just a question ive not been able to find a definitive answer to. . . did jack johnson actually ever *play* live with sublime, or even just bradley nowell? although it seems doubtful to me, a fairly credible person (meaning he had nothing to gain by lying. . .) told me of a video with bradley playing "back-up" guitar with johnson while johnson sang. based on the years mentioned in this article it seems improbable this is actually true, but i'd just like to know if anybody can definitively confirm or deny this. thanks. Why Jack is Jack

Jack is the musician he is because of his great voice. A lot of musicians today just want the 5 minutes of fame, when Jack, is all about the music. You don't ever see him at Hollywood events. He lives for music, thats what a true musician should do. Anybody disagree? Didn't think so.

Citing Gereral Info

I have been doing research for roughly the past month on Jack Johnson. By the end of the week, I am going to be citing much of the info which need citations in the article.

I am having trouble finding any information about the Alex Conell connection. If anyone has an input as to where I can find this this it would be much appreciated.

Linking to this page

The search for Jack Johnson goes straight to this page, but I was wondering if that was the best thing for Jack Johnson to link to. The Boxer Jack Johnson is arguably more historically famous and well-known than the modern musician, it might be better to link Jack Johnson with a list of various people of that name as exists in the disambiguation for Jack Johnson. I agree--while the musician may be more well-known at the moment, the boxer is an incredibly important historical figure. Per the disambiguation page there is also a professional hockey player with the same name. IMO the search for Jack Johnson should go to the disambiguation page at the very least, and if it has to link to any particular article, I'd choose the boxer. I've just started the Jack Johnson discography page, got the albums, live albums, EPs and singles on there. Just need help with the rest: Video albums, Soundtracks, Other appearances, Music videos, Remix album etc. Feel free to help everyone! I've tried to make it as detailed as possible, I copied the formatting of John Mayer's discography for the most part but maybe someone could add the chart performance for other countries (such as the countries in the table in the Singles section) as I didn't know how to incoparate that into the same table.   • I'm not sure I agree with cutting out everything you did because there is another article for the discography. Typically when there is a second more detailed article, there is still some fairly substantial content on the main article. Now all you left is his studio albums. Most popular musicians/bands pages just have a small section for discography (if they have a seperate discography page) which only shows their studio albums and a Main Article link to the discography page. Jack Johnson (born May 18, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, actor, record producer, and a former professional surfer. Johnson is known primarily for his work in the soft rock and acoustic genres. In 2001, he achieved commercial success after the release of his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales. Johnson has hit the Billboard 200, #1 chart, for the albums: Curious George (Soundtrack) in 2006, Sleep Through The Static in 2008, To the Sea in 2010, and From Here to Now to You in 2013 - 2014. Johnson's, In Between Dreams album, peaked at #2 in 2005 and again in 2013, on the Billboard 200. [1]

Johnson is active in the ecology and sustainability movement, often with an ocean-centric focus. Johnson and wife Kim created the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation and the Kōkua Hawaii Foundation.
