No sources!

This article, while it appears to be well-built (in fact I rather suspect it was lifted from some encyclopedia or other), does not have a single footnote/source. This needs to be tagged accordingly but I do not know how to do so. I'll probably be back later; if anyone wants to beat me to the punch, please do. 64.122.65.154 17:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC) reply

The source is the "Minnesota Historical Society", appearing under the References bar. -- Appraiser 17:40, 22 May 2007 (UTC) reply
Did you even LOOK at those references? No, quite obviously not. All they lead to is data about elections. None of them could possibly serve as sources for much of the article. The article us unsourced. Period. Proxy User ( talk) 20:27, 24 February 2008 (UTC) reply

Inconsistencies

The article says that re ran for President in 1996 and 2000, but later says he never ran after 1992. Neither of these claims are cited. Source for either claim? This should be cleared up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.13.3.201 ( talk) 05:23, 11 August 2012 (UTC) reply

This has been cleared up... partially. It no longer says he ran in 1996 or 2000, but continues to say he "continued to campaign actively and seriously for president until just a year before his death", meaning 2000. Should that be changed to "until 1992", too? David Marjanović ( talk) 20:13, 28 March 2023 (UTC) reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Harold Stassen.gif

Image:Harold Stassen.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot 23:53, 5 June 2007 (UTC) reply

Did he really run for president in 1940?

The section "After the War - presidential election" maintains that he ran at 1940 presidential election but I'd like to point out that he was under the age requirement - he could not have been sworn in that office on 20. january 1941 as he turned 35 only in 1942. Besides the section about his electoral history doest not list presidential election 1940 at all. Also earlier in the article it is said that "Stassen was seen as an "up and comer" after delivering the keynote address at the 1940 Republican National Convention. There he worked to help Wendell Willkie win the Republican Party (GOP) nomination for the presidency". So I don't think he ran in 1940. 176.93.21.84 ( talk) 19:50, 1 February 2016 (UTC) reply

I took away the mention of 1940 and also changed the wording to state that he seeked nomination nine times between 1944 and 1992 (not 2000). There are no sources stating that he ran in 1940, 1996 or 2000. See eg. the sourced information of the "electoral history" -section of this article and the New York Times obituary article (footnotes 3 and 5) which does not mention 44, 96 or 2000 either. And as stated above he would have been underaged in 1940 anyway. So it is rather certain he did not run. 87.95.91.79 ( talk) 09:03, 2 February 2016 (UTC) reply

Cultural reference: "Doonesbury"

There's a "Doonesbury" strip from the '70s whose punch line is "Harold Stassen". I don't have the resources, but somebody who does could look it up. J. D. Crutchfield |  Talk 19:34, 26 February 2016 (UTC) reply
