The First (and Second) Mexican Empire are not "former" countries, anymore than the French Empire is a former country that existed in what today is France. Should we say that the Spanish Republic is a former country too? The First Empire is Mexico itself under a monarchical form of government. Should Mexico change his form of government back to monarchy (or to parliamentary democracy) the country will not cease to exist, and a new country (as a state) will not born, but simply a different regime that might operate under a different name. Metaphorically a new "country" can be born with any new president in office, but that is not the case. Claiming that the Mexican Empire was a different country is a biased historical revisionism with no sources to back it up. -- the Dúnadan 00:41, 3 April 2007 (UTC) reply

Inconsistent Dates

In the article intro it reads that the First Mexican Empire existed from 1821 to 1823, but in the History section there's this:

The First Mexican Empire was short-lived, lasting only eight months from July 21, 1822 to March 19, 1823 [...]

What dates are correct? Zealander ( talk) 05:16, 17 December 2009 (UTC) reply

The year 1821. is the year of formal declaration of independence from Spain. Emperor wasn't elected until July 21st, 1822. when First Mexican Empire was de facto proclaimed. 109.111.231.92 ( talk) 17:27, 1 October 2010 (UTC) reply

Inconsistent Dates

In the article, it reads "...the declaration of independence on September 15, 1821...", but the link to the declaration only reads another date - "September 28, 1821." [Another link to this article also refers to a Cry of Dolores or Cry of Independence on September 16, 1810.] The 13 days difference appears to be a result of the Julian to Gregorian calendar conversion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.183.224.2 ( talk) 22:28, 10 September 2012 (UTC) reply

Empires in the Americas

The opening paragraph says "for a short time, together with the Empire of Brazil, it was one of two empires in the Americas" which confuses me - is it suggesting that was the only time there were 2 empires at the same time? That would seem unlikely unless there is some definition for empire being used which excludes those which preceded them? Can this sentence be removed as incorrect? ☕ Antiqueight haver 23:00, 7 April 2016 (UTC) reply

In my opinion, only three or four major changes are ncessary in order to bring the First Mexican Empire up to B-Class, from where it currently stands at Start-Class. First off, the article needs another section discussing the fall of the Empire. The last sentence of the last section tells of how Santa Anna and his soldiers revolted on December 1, but there is no more information after that. I feel that another section is necessary, which tells of the events that occured between Decemeber 1 (when Santa Anna revolted) and March 19 (when the monarchy was overthrown). [Done] Second, the introductory paragraph is much too long, detailed, and informative. The majority of that information should be transferred over to the "Background" section. [Done] Third of all, references, references, references...Currently, the article has no references or citations, just "See Also" and "External Links" sections. There are also several minor changes that I would like to suggest. One: the article links several dates in the infobox but none at all within the context of the article itself. It must be decided where dates should be linked and where they shouldn't be. In my opinion, either all dates should be linked, or all major dates should be linked, and all other dates should not be linked. Two: the infobox needs both a coat of arms and a flag [Done]. Although neither is necessary for B-Class, they should definitely be in the article if it is ever nominated for GA-Class. Well, that's all I have to say here. I'll get to work on the article myself as soon as I can, but anyone and everyone else is free to help improve the article too! Cheers! -- Laurinavicius ( talk) 20:12, 19 April 2009 (UTC) reply

Languages

Does anyone know what languages were acutally commonly spoken in the Empire? The article was recently edited to include English as well as Spanish, but I cannot find a reliable citation for English and it seems quite doubtful. I will not remove English just yet, but there will need to be some citation for English's inclusion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Antisquark01 ( talkcontribs) 15:06, 23 June 2016 (UTC) reply

Coat of arms of the First Mexican Empire

Hello, I have noticed while reading the article, that the coat of arms is wrong. I noticed that in this photograph:

the mantling says “Mexico Religion Independencia Union” but on this image:

it only says “Religion Independencia Union.” talk 7:32, 17 June 2022 (EST)
