A Few Notes

I grew up in Decatur, and still live in the area. A few things I noticed:

A pretty good number of the people mentioned in the "Notable Natives" section have slim connections to the actual city. This is most likely due to (as mentioned) a wide geography of unincorporated Dekalb County with a mailing address of Decatur:

To my knowledge, Jeff Foxworthy has never been associated with the city (his wikipedia page says he was born in Atlanta, and I don't think he's ever lived inside the city). Mark David Chapman was born in Texas and went to Columbia High School (which adjoins the DHS district, but is still outside Decatur proper). Chris Tucker's wikipedia page says he was born in Atlanta and also went to Columbia. While Quincy Carter's and Kyle Davies' pages listed as them as being "born" in Decatur (which seems questionable, since the the only hospital inside the Decatur does few deliveries; Dekalb General - located just outside - seems more likely) they are both far more associated with the somewhat distant schools that they attended and those respective communities: SW Dekalb for Carter, Stockbridge for Davies. It seems misleading to call them "natives".

Ironically, one of the few people with more established Decatur roots is missing. Author and broadcast personality Roy Blunt, Jr is a DHS graduate, and has a small marker on the Courthouse Square.

Finally, I'm pretty sure the graphic mentioned above, and labeled on the page as the "official seal" is in error. I think it's the official city logo, but it's probably not the city seal, since it does not bear the hallmarks of a proper seal.

The fifth reference in the census section is making the page huge horizontally. Any ideas on how we can fix it (aside from just taking it off?) Since this pronunciation is unusual, we should include parenthetical IPA after the name. Any linguists care to weigh in on the correct phonetic spelling? My suggestion is ( /dəˈkeɪtər/)

"Native American" trails

The history section begins with "Decatur was established at the intersection of two Native American trails:" -- Do we know specifically who used/maintained these trails? My impression is that this area was a borderland between the Cherokee and Creek, but I have not found confirmation of this. Also, do we know if these trails were through woods? It would be nice to give a more precise description of this area before European settlement. AdamChrisR ( talk)
