merger proposed

There have been three separate disambig pages, "Carnegie Library (disambiguation)", "Carnegie Free Library", and "Carnegie Public Library" which i propose be all merged into one and organized by state and city. This would be simpler for readers looking for any given one. doncram ( talk) 14:54, 24 October 2008 (UTC) reply

Carnegie Library & Museum, Lichfield, Staffordshire, England

I was looking for some more informartion about the first free library in UK (I believe) and was surprised not to find a single mention in Wikipedia. All I have at present is the below, which may be of interest to others or may be could be added bt someone to the relevant apge(s).

"This is the yellow brick Italianate-style building opened in 1856 as one of the country’s first free libraries and stands beside the entrance to Beacon Park. The sailor figure was carved by Robert Bridgeman and was intended to be of eight for the South African War Memorial at Duncombe Place, York, in 1905. It was felt to be too warlike and the Lee Enfield rifle was replaced by a coil of rope, the original figure then being presented to Lichfield City Council by Robert Bridgeman. The building was closed in 1990 on the grounds of its unsuitability for public use owing to the lack of disabled access." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Williss1934 ( talkcontribs) 16:01, 3 April 2013 (UTC) reply
