- I know this is old (2010 & 2007), but it should have an explanation. It may "arguably" be the most heated, but that is subjected. However, the trophy is certified by the NCAA as being the oldest rivalry trophy in collegiate football. Furthermore, the game is typically played the Friday after Thanksgiving; therefore, it is not played in 100° heat, but likely in 60° or 50° (if not colder) temperatures...especially considering the Territorial Cup's history of being a night game. Technically, the games are played in a desert, but more accurately, the games are played in urban areas located in the Sonoran Desert. One urban area (Tucson) with over 1 million inhabitants, and the other (Phoenix-Tempe) with over 4 million inhabitants are hardly "in the middle of the desert" or in other words, not in a desolate location.-- 68.98.115.70 ( talk) 05:07, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Arizona–Arizona State football rivalry → Territorial Cup – This article was moved to Arizona–Arizona State football rivalry without discussion. This article previously concerned one of the oldest trophies (if not the oldest) and the move seemed inappropriate given there is no shortage of reliable sources for the trophy being the common name [2] and thus a descriptive title seems out of place. - Oppose. While the trophy is well known, many or most sources for the rivalry only discuss it in passing, if at all, using a descriptive name instead, for instance: [3] [4] [5] and [6]. The current title is more in line with how the sources discuss the subject and is more natural and recognizable to readers. It has been the trend in articles in Category:College football rivalries in the United States to eschew the often obscure trophy names and fan nick names in favor of more recognizable descriptive titles.-- Cúchullain t/ c 16:10, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- No doubt that the rivalry is notable and potentially worthy of it's own article. However, the trophy is onto itself a notable object and subject and it should not have been moved to fill a gap in rivalry content. Duality for competitions and their associated trophies is not all all uncommon (a la
Stanley Cup and
Stanley Cup finals).--

- I've yet to see one of these college sports rivalry articles where material on the rivalry and its trophy weren't better dealt with in one place. This isn't any different considering the trophy material is poorly cited. The solution here is cleanup under the current name - with reliable sources this time - not writing separate articles. According to this, ASU's name was "Arizona Territorial Normal School" in 1889. It had previously been known as "Territorial Normal School at Tempe". Additionally, the link is superior as it points to History of Arizona State University, where more historical information can be found than at the main page. - Sorry, got the dates wrong - it was Normal School of Arizona according to the link. It may be worth just saying it once and then going with "Tempe Normal School", since that was not only the school's official name from 1901-1925, it also seems to be used as a generic conventional name for the school's early history before it became the State Teachers' College.-- Cúchullain t/ c 13:39, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
