Alpine, California → Alpine, San Diego County – many places in California are called "Alpine" as evidenced by the enormous hatnote. The current term should point to the disambiguation page Alpine (disambiguation) -- 65.93.183.33 ( talk) 03:46, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

as the OP suggests is not allowed. The OP also appears to not realize that "Alpine, California" in itself, like any other Placename, State
under the WP:USPLACE guidelines, is also a valid search term and title, and thus there could be a primary topic for that. In other words, it is not strictly a disambiguated page name. This misconception is reasonably understandable since the OP's IP geolocates to outside the U.S., and
Wikipedia:Perennial proposals#Remove state from US placenames does basically list the reasons why WP:USPLACE is an exception to the normal rules. So when comparing the current links in the hatnote to determine whether there should be a
primary topic for "Alpine, California":
