I'm not sure this is a fair statement. Certainly it gives us a very deep insight, but into a very narrow segment of the population. Perhaps a comprehensive insight into the life of a family wealthy enough to afford the largest house in the country, but certainly not representative of the 'everyman'... I have listed and passed Hampton National Historic Site on Wikipedia's Good Article list.
