Three qualities universally admitted to be characteristic of the English nation?
A User didn't want this (ahem) "interesting" addition deleted without a sojourn to Talk. Well, here we are.
Deleted text read:
At least three qualities are universally admitted to be characteristic of the English nation: courage, common sense, and an incorruptible spirit of fair play
I certainly have sympathy for
this edit. The article did very much put undue emphasis on cricket, giving the impression that this was practically the sole influence on "English national identity."
On the other hand, this article is otherwise effectively just a stub. One might expect that a proper article on the topic would indeed have a paragraph on cricket--as well as others on (what?) cream teas, thatched cottages, the colonial heritage, the north/south divide, and whatever else may be imagined to contribute to such an identity.
If we remove everything, we stifle the chance to expand the article. As such, I propose to reintroduce some of the information that was taken out, and indicate that this is an article that requires significant expansion. --

Apologies for taking the easy option with problematic content, which is to wipe it in its entirety (the additions here were something I had specifically referred to in the ANI discussion). I'd agree with what you've done in reinserting
some of it, with a bit more balance and making it more about sport as a whole. N-HHtalk/

No problem. I'd already referred to this page somewhere as problematic. But I always hope that something can be salvaged of any good-faith addition to a Wikipedia article. --

Is 'Brexit' [sic] an expression of English nationalism?
I have some links, but would appreciate some input.

English national identity → Englishness – 'Englishness' is the common name for this identity, used in many reliable sources and publications on the subject. Google Books Ngram Viewer search shows that 'Englishness' vastly exceeding the current title

Oppose. Not supported by current references. Too informal. The nom makes the foolish ngram mistake of comparing a three word phrase to a one word phrase, this is hopeless flawed. --

Should this exist?
Should this even exist? It's based in little fact and is a rather scrambled read. I'd suggest this just get deleted.
