Why are we ignoring the elephant in the room? Even if you just say he was acquitted, that's not nothing. This just feels like whitewashing to me.

I was wondering if there was a way to incorporate...that...into his entry here, if it's even possible/appropriate to do so.

In a couple of places where I wanted to address the elephant in the room without risking any legal liability, I referred to him as the author of If I Did It.

Elephants have no place in this room, if it's not proven they trampled over anything.

Might a suitable approach be to add 'subject of a
notable trial' or similar? That way, the fact of the trial taking place is recorded, without straying into the question of how the outcome of it should be described.

But why - to what end? To taint the subject of the entry where it's not justified?
Ref(chew)(do) 00:00, 13 April 2024 (UTC)reply
I should've thought the answer was obvious - a major element of his notability derives from the trial; indeed outside the US, it would probably be the only thing he's known for. The trial having taken place is not in dispute, and I very deliberately suggested a form of words which is limited exlusively to recording that fact. This could in no conceivable way 'taint' anyone or anything.

He is listed as: football player, actor, and Heisman Trophy winner. No mention of his "most notable" event ...
Murder trial of O. J. Simpson. Why not? The language might be something like "defendant in murder trial" ... or ... "perpetrator of double homicide" ... or ... "perpetrator of wrongful deaths" ... or so.

War Chant, really?
Is it really necessary to include a race horse in the list? This is supposed to be for famous people, and horses don’t count, as far as I’m aware.

Anonymous, yes really. There are non-homo sapiens who are the subject of wikipedia articles. The date of death seems relevant.
DarkStarHarry (

This list has included notable animals for many years. It's not as if this is the first entry over that time, and the subject has been debated on talk pages regularly. So much so that the onus is now on those who don't believe they should be included to start a formal discussion here and change the consensus from yea to nay (or is that "neigh"?). Thanks.

I was beginning to wonder when the first thread about “non humans listed? Really?” Of 2024 would be.
Rusted AutoParts 19:47, 15 April 2024 (UTC)reply
"As far as I'm aware" are the key words. Read the fourth FAQ above and learn.

Where does it say this article is supposed to be only for famous people?
The title is "Deaths in 2024"
If an animal has a Wikipedia article about it, it seems reasonable to report its date of death. It's been this way for deaths in previous years.
Agree! 99,9 % of the list includes human beings - and then we have a horse here and there! It makes absolutely no sense that horses - most of them ordinary race horses - is on the list!
Sorenrode (

Because notability, not species is the main criteria. No death of a notable being is going to be of interest to everyone. Most people who are interested in racehorses, animal actors, etc. are also interested in other famous people; so as is, this page is a "one stop" spot for people looking for info on recent deaths. You may find this an im-purr-fect system, and if you keep visiting this page, certainly material you consider for the birds will keep dogging you, and that's ruff. But if they're notable to have a Wiki page, they're notable enough to be noted here.
AndyENy (
talk) 01:57, 24 April 2024 (UTC)reply
To call him a "protester" is giving way too much credence to conspiracy theory. Could someone please change that, irrespective of any actual notability?

If anything, he was an exhibitionist, drawing more attention to himself than a cause. In 30 days (see FAQ above) he will not be notable here anyway. Wyliepedia @ 03:49, 21 April 2024 (UTC)reply
I dunno about that. Awful lot of "Keep" votes at that deletion discussion.
32.209.69.24 (

We don't "keep" redirects here after 30 days. Wyliepedia @ 09:10, 21 April 2024 (UTC)reply
I thought we "keep" (i.e., list) deaths when an article specifically names an individual ... no? I remember a long debate about this, years ago. The debate had something to do with:
Fred West and
Rose West;
Shields and Yarnell;
Captain & Tennille. Stuff like that.
32.209.69.24 (
talk) 19:27, 21 April 2024 (UTC)reply
You are correct. Event articles where the person is named as the primary subject are currently kept. Contrary to what I would prefer, I might say.
Ref(chew)(do) 00:06, 22 April 2024 (UTC)reply
I have made the appropriate change.
