I am aware of the fact that the name "Cultural Revolution Group" is not the exact equivalent of the Chinese name (中央文化革命小组), but it is the most common name in use in the English language.--

It really should be the Central Cultural Revolution Group, and not merely the Cultural Revolution Group. Compare Chinese usage [Zhongyang wenge] and also MacFarquhar and Schoenhals usage.
