Not true. Chilis are native to the Amazon, Central America, the Caribbean an Mexico. Read the Chili pepper article. Tomatoes were in Mexico and according to the Tomato article, domesticated by the Mexicans.

The image is credited to the Library of Congress. The sepia-tone image with the gray mount is the on at the LOC. The definitive image from the LOC should be used. Also I corrected the spelling of "GraBhill".
